Low cost CPR classes?

My kids needed CPR for a high school online fitness class. I paid $25 each for a private company that also gives CPR training for businesses. She has two types of classes, one is basic lifesaving and was about 3 hours long, the other a more in-depth class that cost a bit more.

ETA: Prices may have increased as someone mentioned. My DD had CPR again in one of her classes this year, but was taught by her teacher and cost us $5 for the printed card.

A cut and paste from the website where we had the CPR class a couple years ago:

• Two year certification card issued the day of class for pre-registered students. Basic Life Saving Skills.
• American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR with AED for $45.00 per class

• American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR with AED and First Aid for $60 per class

I read recently that the Red Cross recently raised their course prices due to the fact that the lower prices barely covered the cost of the course. With the increase in price I believe that they expanded the duration that you are covered from 1 year to 2 years.

Been years since I took a CPR class, but I'll be honest, I'm having a hard time getting my arms around it costing them anywhere near $90 per person to teach that class. Best I can tell from a Google search that class is now 3 hours long. I get $20 for the book, but last Red Cross CPR class I took had 1 instructor and about 30 students. At the current $90 per person tuition, that's $2,700 income for a class like that. I doubt they are paying anywhere near $2,700 to that instructor.

I don’t understand the need for a book. I have taken CPR every couple years for over 20 years and there has never been a book. ???
