lovinaz's "getting her act together" journal

Hee hee, I would probably live on cereal if I didn't have DH. He is the household cook, which is one of the things that attracted me to him. I had no desire to get married when we met. Then I discovered he cooks and does laundry...couldn't pass that up! One of his previous GFs hated that he cooked because she said it "threatened her femininity." He can threaten mine all he wants.

Sounds like it will take some juggling to hit on the right times for the workouts. Doing them both in the morning might be rough, but maybe not as bad as forcing yourself after a long day at work.

Glad your aunt is getting better Amy
your cousin is in my prayers :hug:

Try not to get discouraged about the water retention - i know when im ''good'' it takes a good 2 weeks for the scale to show it!

Amy, I am so glad about your aunt and so sorry about your cousin. I'll keep your family in my prayers.

Don't get discouraged about the water retention! You know your body does this and you know you are not the cause of it and are working hard! Its going to come off and soon! Being a woman really sucks sometimes plain and simple. Men just have no idea!:rolleyes1

To this day, I cannot listen to Denise Austin on anything. I used to have some of her videos and realized the murderous thoughts I had listening to her sicky sweet voice weren't worth the workouts! Its amazing how annoying some peppy little people can be!

Cereal is not a bad dinner but if you want something that feels more dinnerish, have you thought about salads? Sometimes I premake some chicken breasts on my indoor grill, slice them up and then just throw them on top of salad bag salad. My kids love that. I also sometimes ask dh to bring home a rotissiere chicken, if I cut the skin off its not bad and I just open up a couple of cans of green beans and. Do you have something like Dream Dinners around you? I did that a couple of years ago and may go back. You pre assemble meals there (they have the stuff all cut up and ready) and in about an hour you can make up 10 or more meals. Mine has healthy options. You order online, make an appt. and show up. Its fun for your kids to do as well. Then all you have to do is heat up the stuff.

:hug: Amy,

Prayers are being sent for your aunt and your cousin. :hug:

Great job getting those workouts in!:cheer2: I think I'm going to give Shred a try today. I'm still not feeling 100%, but if I can sweat this cold out, all the better!:thumbsup2

No worries on the scale, Amy. It may take a day or so, but I bet you'll see a whoosh on the scale soon!:wizard:

Hope you have a great Friday!:hug:

Weight this morning was 141.0, a gain of 0.2 from last week. I am so sick of being stagnant! At first I was :furious:, then I was :mad:, then I was :sad:, now I am :sad1:. And I remembered my resolution to not let it get me down, so now I am just :confused3. Oh well, I know I did good ALL week, so there is nothing more I could have done...

It must have been a day for electrical issues yesterday. First, my hair dryer tried to kill me - the insulation for the wiring right at the base of the handle wore through, leaving live wires. I was drying my hair and suddenly the dryer stopped and there was popping and sparks and smoke shooting out the handle! I threw it on the counter and it was still popping, sparking and smoking so I leaned over and unplugged it. :eek: I am carpooling with another mom for soccer practice and when I dropped her daughter off, all the doors were open and the daughter thought their dog had gotten out. I talked to her mom this morning and apparently their DS9 had put a metal mug in the microwave and it caught the microwave on fire! I need to remind the kids about that...

For Thursday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
L: spinach salad w/chicken, cheese, LF dressing
S: baby carrots; 1oz cheddar cheese
S: peppers-n-hummus; 11 mint M&Ms
D: crockpot stroganoff; wheat egg noodles; 2 Hershey Kisses

E: 20min Turbo Jam
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barb, I can't believe your DH's ex said that! :laughing: I would NEVER complain that DH's cooking was threatening my femininity! Heck, he could even take over my monthly cycle and I wouldn't say that... :lmao: Sounds like you got yourself a keeper! :thumbsup2
Tracey, thanks for your support. And we are now friends on Facebook! You can check out my India pictures.
Amy, thanks. :hug: I know I shouldn't care about the scale, it's just so frustrating. But I shouldn't complain, I am not medically classified as overweight, but I am at the higher end of the "normal" range and I want to be at the middle so bad! :rolleyes: I did do a meal prep thing a couple years ago with DS, I should do that again. Everything was pretty good and DS really liked doing it. Of course that was before he was a moody teenager! :sad2:
Tracy, thanks. You might want to hold off on Shred until you are 100%. It really takes a lot out of you. I have to do Level 2 after work today and I am not looking forward to it! :eek: If history repeats itself, I will probably have another high WI next week, then the following week will be great. I really only get about 4-5 days out of the month where I feel good about my body! :rolleyes1
Amy, I hate it when electrical stuff happens, it always scares me! Dd put a metal plate in the microwave once and I caught her just in the knick of time.
If ds won't go with you to the meal prep, take dd instead! I hear you on the moody teenager thing. I swear, if ds gives me the dismissive "oh you don't get it" thing one more time, I swear I will slap him!
Good job not getting too upset with the scale. Its so hard though. And I totally get you wanting to be in the mid range. We all have a weight we feel is the ideal weight for our bodies. And you will get there, I have a lot of faith in you my friend!:hug:
Eek, pretty scary about the hair dryer and microwave! I hate electrical stuff like that. Our microwave tried to kill me once; we didn't know it, but the outlet behind it (it's a built in model) had not been installed correctly and was progressively melting down. One day it finally burned itself out and melted the plug to the outlet, which I figured out when the microwave totally fritzed out. Ugh. Thank goodness we renew our home warranty every year.
Knowing you did well is more important than the scale. Those stagnant patches seem to be natural...frustrating, but ultimately just a part of the process.
Yikes Amy!:eek: Very scary about the hair dryer thing! I'm glad that you're okay. :hug:
I'm sorry that the scale is frustrating you right now. You know what though? You're doing all the right things, Amy! ::yes:: You're exercising and you're eating right. The scale will cooperate! It might just need a swift kick first! ;)
Yesterday ended up being kind of a splurge day... :rolleyes1 Which is fine as long as that only happens once a week or less! I did NOT get my Shred workout in, but I will do it today. I definitely don't want to get too off track with that, I don't want to go through the pain of starting over! I did finish the first week of the Turbo Jam program, so I am proud of myself for that. Don't know if I can take another 3 weeks of Chalene telling me to "get my groove on", but there is an option to pump up the music and you can't hear her, so once I get more familiar with the routines, I will drown her out! :laughing:
We took the kids to my mom's to spend the night last night (which is why I didn't have time to work out after work) which is why I didn't behave... She got pizza and made cheesecake!
THis weekend will be spent working on the house. We didn't do anything on it during the week, it's just too busy. We are trying to close the living room part up this weekend then start on the kitchen wall next weekend.
For Friday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
L: FlatOut wrap w/chicken, spinach, mustard, cheddar; 1 square Ghirardelli 86% cacao
S: 3 egg whites; apple; about 5-6 mini chocolate covered pretzels (they were tiny)
S: peppers-n-hummus; 7 mint M&Ms (these things are lasting FOREVER, I must be the only one eating them out of the dispenser)
D: Pizza Hut (1 slice cheese, 1 slice meat lovers); blackberry cheesecake :cloud9:
E: 45min TJ Cardio Party
Avoided: eating more chocolate pretzels! :banana: They weren't that great, so I gave the rest of mine to the secretary.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amy, my DS is more the "whatever" plus eyeroll type. Exactly how I was when I was a teenager! :lmao: Which of course my mom thinks is hilarious... As for the scale, I just have to be patient, which is NOT my strong suit!

Barb, how scary about your microwave! That could have been disasterous! The whole weight thing is a mental game for me, I am such a perfectionist and that really doesn't help in the weight loss aspect of life, does it?? :confused3

Pizza and cheesecake?!?!!? YUMMY!:love:

Great job getting your workouts in!:cheer2: I think I'm going to skip Shred today....I'm still sick and way too sore!:eek:

Have a great day!:hug:

Hi Amy - checked out you india pics (& all the others :) ) what an amazing place - loved the school bus!!! you have a gorgeous family :)
splurge sounded good pizza & cheesecake - my 2 fav things

I personally think a splurge is okay every now and then, as long as the majority of the eating habits are good and you're getting in your exercise. Pizza and cheesecake...mmmmm!

Good for you to make it through a week of Turbo Jam! That music option sounds better than the banter...the Sports Active comments get annoying too but I have learned to tune them out mentally.

Our house is now officially in a state of disarray! :eek: DH managed to tear down half of the dropped ceiling in the kitchen. I can't believe how opened up it looks, even if the view is 2x4's and insulation! Today's plan is to finish off the hallway and start tearing down the kitchen wall, which will allow him to re-wire some light switches and outlets. If history is any indication, this will take up the whole day... Hopefully he can avoid the same problems he had last week! :wizard:

For Saturday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
L: FlatOut wrap w/chicken, spinach, mustard, cheddar; 100cal pack grasshopper cookies
S: red peppers-n-hummus; 100cal pack Cheez-Its; 5 mint M&Ms (these are finally gone!)
D: 2 bowls Cocoa Krispies :rolleyes1 (kids were at my mom's and we were covered in drywall dust and didn't want to go out OR cook!)
S: microwave popcorn :confused3 (could have done without this, but it was :lovestruc)

E: 20min Shred L2 (still kicked my butt!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracy, I don't blame you for taking a day off, I don't think I could do Shred every single day.
Tracey, thanks! :hug: I loved the school bus too, it's a total different way of life there, that's for sure!
Barb, I usually end up having a little splurge on Fridays. I read that the Biggest Loser contestants also have a splurge meal after their weigh-ins, so it must be OK! :thumbsup2
Fridays my ''treat'' day - or was lately its seems to be most days! oh to get back into a routine!!!
some more :wizard::wizard: for renovations :)
You know Amy, Bill Philips (Body for LIfe) tells you to have a free day each week. He says it helps your metabolism not go into starvation mode. I like that advice! So good job splurging, your metabolism will thank you!
Wow, I wish my husband could do stuff like that around our house. Its going to be great when its all done, sort of like having a whole new house!
I am telling you my mom is up in heaven laughing her hiney off at me having two teenagers to contend with and the way they both do the same things to me, I did to her! I guess payback is part of being a mom huh?;)
I think a splurge day once a week is a good idea. That way, you give yourself a treat for eating OP all week long!:thumbsup2
How did the renovations go yesterday? How long do you think it will take until the project is done?
I hope you have a great day today!:hug:
Whew, between the Shred and the rennovations you've got to be getting a kick-butt workout. I know what you mean about not wanting to cook anything or go out either...when you're in the middle of something like that, it's all about something easy and cereal sure fits that.
Good job on the workouts, Amy! Shred is a KILLER!! Remember to take it easy, tho....I pulled an inner abdominal muscle on it last spring & haven't had the guts to give it another go. Soon, tho, as it is a great workout!
Good luck with all the renovation....wanna come do mine next?
Hope your week is off to a good start!
First of all, GO CARDINALS!!!!! :cheer2: They always make a nailbiter to the finish, but they pulled out the victory! :cool1:
Secondly, whoever invented blow-in insulation needs to be shot. :mad: Since I have no ceiling in the hallway and half the kitchen, when DH was up in the attic rewiring some things, a huge sheet of insulation came crashing into my kitchen, along with 2 garbage bags worth of blown insulation! :headache: Fortunately the Cardinals scored the winning touchdown about 3 seconds after that happened, so we were so happy it made cleanup a little easier to swallow... :rolleyes: It is going to take forever, but I am so glad we (or should I say DH) is doing this instead of paying tens of thousands of dollars. We can save that for the real expense - when we redo the kitchen! And we will most likely pay to have that done. ;)
I spent the day wanting to graze on junk, but I ended up doing pretty decent.
For Sunday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
S: energy granola-type bar (from Costco - SO good!)
L: grilled cheese on honey wheat; 100cal pack Cheez-Its; 2 Hershey Kisses
S: handful almonds; something else but I can't remember... :confused3
D: chicken stir fry w/brown rice and crunchy rice noodles; Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich
E: none - it was a glorious day off! :banana:
Avoided: giant Cheeto balls while packing kids lunches :woohoo:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracey, Fridays seem like a good splurge day. It just naturally seems to work out like that for me!

Amy, I agree with Bill Phillips. Of course he requires that you are 100% dedicated to the plan on the other 6 days of the week, something I have not yet mastered... :rolleyes1

Tracy, I have NO idea how long it will take! I think we are progressing better than I anticipated, but I'm sure the pain and suffering will continue until at least the end of Jan. And that is just for the major work, then we will have to do the kitchen (but we can wait to start that if we want to). The biggest pain will be popcorn ceiling removal. I am going to attempt a small patch of that today to see how horrible it will be... Once we get the new ceiling up, we need all the popcorn off so we can have someone come in and texture it (light texture, like the walls).

Barb, my only workout so far on the renovations has been clean-up duty! :p But I plan to be a little more helpful with the popcorn ceiling removal. At least that's the plan!

Julie, Shred is a killer! So far so good on being injury-free, but I did notice this morning that my knees were killing me during my TurboJam workout. Not sure which routine is causing it, but my knees have never bothered me before, so I hope they are just getting adjusted. I will have to take it easy on the squats and lunges when I do Shread tonight! And NO, I will not come do your house next! I don't even want to finish mine! :lmao:
