lovinaz's "getting her act together" journal

Hey Amy!! So great to see you again. :hug:

I didn't read through your whole journal, but brushed up at the end a bit. You've set some great goals! I also just got the 30 day shred for Christmas and am starting it this weekend. I thought I read somewhere that you're supposed to do it 3 times a week. That sounds way more reasonable than every day!

Also, the hair thing...When I was losing weight through a nutritionist my hair thinned a LOT. She'd tell me every once in a while to throw in some grease. Something oily. Definitely have to have oil in your diet. Even if it's lite italian dressing or cooking with some oil. Gotta say, I remember being SO excited when she'd say, go get a hamburger, just this once. HAHAHAHA

Went shopping yesterday. I swear, I need to be banned from shopping! :eek: I had $60 Kohls Cash that needed to be spent by this Sat, and I wanted to get a couple new tops for work. DD10 and DH went with me (DS13 could not be torn away from his new XBox Live :rolleyes:). I ended up getting socks for DS, a fleece jacket and pjs for DD, underwear for me, plus 6 tops! :scared1: Everything was on sale or clearance, so at least I did good in that regard. But of course I tripled the amount of Kohls Cash I had, which is their whole goal in giving that away, I'm sure... :rolleyes1 The lady at the register was nice and gave me an extra 15% off, so I spent less than $100 out of pocket for all that loot! :thumbsup2 I love that place!

Then it was off to Target, where I really lost my mind on Christmas clearance stuff. :confused3 Fortunately DH was there as a voice of reason, or it could have gotten ugly... I did not get any candy or food stuff, besides hot cocoa mix for DD (which I won't touch), so that is good. I stocked up on window gel clings, mini christmas trees with mini ornaments, garland, more decorations - you get the point. ;)

All that shopping made us realize we were starving (it was already 2pm!) so we stopped at Wendy's. I can't tell you how SHOCKED my kids were that we ate fast food. That is how rarely it happens at my house! Oh yes, and we had to stop at Hi-Health for protein powder and it turns out Ali (first female winner from Biggest Loser) will be at that store on Jan 16th. Maybe I'll go check it out! She lives here, we've actually seen her at Michaels before, with her mom.

For Tuesday:
B: 2 eggs over-easy; 2 pieces wheat toast w/butter
L: spicy crispy chicken sandwich (no mayo); small fries
D: turkey sloppy joe w/half wheat bun; green beans; 2 mini Reese's cups

E: 20min Shred L1

Avoided: Frosty @ Wendy's; microwave popcorn :banana:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracy, I think you will like the 30 Day Shred. I did it again yesterday and I am not nearly as sore this morning. The thing that kills me is the 2 minutes of pushups right at the beginning! And yes, I won't find out my lab results until Jan 20th. A looooong time to wait, but I've put off going to the Dr for months and months, so I guess another month won't kill me!
Barb, when I first got the Shred, I thought I would have to do 2 workouts in a row to get a "good" workout. Boy was I wrong! I peeked at Level 2 and all I can say is YIKES! :eek:
Kim, I think 3x a week for Shred sounds way more realistic than every day! Let me know what you think of it. Interesting on the grease/oil thing. I am assuming that helped you? I need to get another multi-vitamin, I haven't been taking one in a while. Maybe that will help too. I personally think it's hormones. :sad2:
Hee hee, yes, those stores know how to get you in the door and spending! We made the mistake of going to a local shopping center the day after Christmas but fortunately I didn't spend much because it was so crowded that we bailed after we got what we needed at the pet store. Oh well, hopefully you got some good buys. Those after Christmas sales are awesome.
Yes, once I introduced oil on a daily basis, things got better. I also started taking the vitamin "biotin". It's a hair & nail vitamin. Might not hurt to try that, along with a multivitamin.
Great job on the Kohls and Target shopping! I love both stores!:love: We went to Target the other day and my DH helped me put several Christmas items back. ;)
I think I will get the 30 day shred. One of my goals for January is to workout 3xs a week. Since I won't be going to the gym, it will be nice to have a variety of workouts. I may check the library first to see if they have it. If not, I'll buy it at Walmart.
You did a great job at Wendys!:thumbsup2 I love their burgers and fries!:love:
Hope you have a great day! Happy New Year! party:
I didn't do so great in the food dept yesterday... :rolleyes1 My MIL had gotten us a gift card to Village Inn and we decided to go there for breakfast since we both have this week off. So we dragged the kids out of bed at 9:30am (they are going to be in a world of hurt next week when they have to start getting up at 6:30 again!) and when we got there, apparently they have a deal where everyone gets a free piece of pie on Wed! So not only did I have an enormously caloric breakfast, but I had pie later on... Oh well. I tried to make up for it by skipping lunch, but had some not-so-great snacks. Today will be better, I am just about to have my beloved oatmeal to start the day off right. :thumbsup2
For Wednesday:
B: 2 scrambled eggs; hashbrowns; 1/2 strip bacon (gave the rest to DD); 3 pumpkin pancakes w/caramel sauce (at about 3/4 of them!)
"L": handful pecans; 3 mint M&Ms
S: 1.5 serving reduced fat Cheez-Its
D: teriyaki chicken w/brown rice; 1 piece French Silk pie :lovestruc
E: 45min elliptical/stair climber combo (4.45mi!)
Avoided: bacon, the rest of DD's pie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barb, I did get some awesome buys. And I am with you - if it had been super crowded and long lines, I wouldn't have gotten anything. Not into the crowd scene!

Kim, I will look into those vitamins, thanks for the advice! :hug:

Tracy, you are lucky your DH was your babysitter! I am getting to the point I might need another container to hold all the extra Christmas stuff I buy every year! :rolleyes: I will also be doing a "gym-free" month in Jan, to see if I can actually make some progress without it. I have the Turbo Jam set, plus a couple Pilates DVDs, plus Shred. I can also TiVo some cardio programs and rent from Blockbuster online and use those as well. Plus by working out at home I will get to "sleep in" until 5am instead of getting up at 4:30am to get to the gym! :cool1:

Happy New Year Amy :)
I watched Ali win BL - if you meet her tell her she has a fan that says hi from the UK who she inspired loads!!

I would have given in to that free pie too. Oh well, you can make up for the bad day with a good one today! :thumbsup2

Have a great New Years Eve!

Hi Amy:wave2:

Happy Belated Thanksgiving
Happy Belated Birthday
Belated Merry Christmas

Now, can you laugh about Buckley and the turkey fat yet? I was like :lmao: and then :rotfl2: when I thought about it some more. You certainly gave me my laugh for the day. Oh, I have had some times with Roo getting into food. She is a 60lb mutt who loves to eat. She was just trying to get into the trash can last night after I cleaned out the fridge. The combo of roast and lasagna was too much for her to resist.

Don't worry too much about DS. Hard not to, believe me I know. But I will say I got the first one to adult hood without too much trouble. He was real bad about lying, couldn't ever get anything done when asked, refused to believe he was responsible for his own actions and it was never his fault. He is now 24, moving out (for the second and hopefully last time) and has a good job. He still has issues at times. Nothing is ever his fault. Everyone is out to get him and getting him to help do anyting is impossible. But he also has really good days. Do I still worry? Heck yeah. But I learned a long time ago... Pray......really, really hard. Helps keep me sane where the kids are concerned. Okay, sorry, maybe too much there, but when I get going.......

After Christmas shopping. :lovestruc Oh, how I love it. I was at Target the other night and mine is 50% off right now. I saw so many things that I wanted, but I kept saying. I'll come back Saturday and if it is 75% off I'll get it. I did pick up a couple crafts for the kids to do at our Christmas party next year. I also saw several toys that would make great gifts for the party. The toys are only 30% off, so if they hit 50%, then I'll have a good portion of the party gifts taken care of. :thumbsup2

May I have the pumpkin fluff recipe? I love pumpkin, but my stomach can't handle much anymore. Fluff sounds light, so maybe it would work.

Amy, keep us posted on your blood work results, the waiting is always so hard.

You know I always wonder on Bigges Loser how smart it is to do those intense and strength training workouts every day.:confused3 Every trainer I have worked with says you should do that no more than every other day. I think your idea of doing the Shred like you say is wise. What good does it do to get hurt or so sick of it you quit? So good job on that.

I love your realistic goals. And remember, you have a very low body weight so your losses aren't measley, they are just in line percentage wise with your weight.

You can do this! And good job on the shopping. I love Kohls too, and yes, the Kohls cash is their sure fire way you spend more while you are saving!

Happy New Year, Amy! party:

We had cheesecake last night for our New Year's Eve dessert and I thought of you. :goodvibes Have you ever had crescent roll cheesecake before? Yummy!:lovestruc

Have a great day today!:hug:

Happy New Year everyone!!! :dance3: We didn't do anything last night - I was asleep by 11pm... I'm just not into the hassle of going out on NYE anymore.

Weight this morning was 140.6. My first reaction was to get mad - I had been under 140 every morning since last Sat, even down to 137 on Wed. Then I remembered my resolution to NOT GET MAD when my body goes up and down - because that's just what it does. And to NOT COUNT the weigh-in except on Fridays. I was 1.6lbs down from last Friday, so that's a good thing. :banana: I wish I could just weigh in once a week, but I tried that before and that really doesn't work for me! I'm too addicted to the scale... :rolleyes1

For Thursday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
L: FlatOut wrap w/chicken, spinach, mustard, provolone
S: red pepper-n-hummus
S: handful pecans; 4 mint M&Ms :sad2:
D: wheat spaghetti, sauce w/meatless crumbles & parmesan cheese; 1/2 piece French Silk pie (DD's leftover from yesterday!)

I also shared a bottle of champagne with DH, which most likely caused the spike in my weight this morning...

E: 20min Shred L1

Avoided: microwave popcorn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracey, if I make it there to meet Ali, I will definitely let her know! I bet she would be tickled pink (hee hee)
Barb, I did better with food yesterday, but that pie got me again! At least I did decent the rest of the day and it was only 1/2 piece... :rolleyes1
Lisa, welcome back! Yes, I can laugh about Buckley now, but it took a couple weeks! And thank you so much for sharing your experience with your DS. It really does help to know that someone else has gone through a similar thing and that everything turned out OK in the long run! :goodvibes And of course I will share the pumpkin fluff recipe. I'll dig it out and post it later. It is like a light, fluffy pumpkin mousse. :lovestruc
Amy and Tracy, you guys snuck in while I was lingering on my rambling post...
Amy, thanks for the words of encouragement, you are right. I am not even medically considered overweight, I am just too much of a perfectionist! And I think I am finally getting to the point where the number on the scale isn't as important as looking toned and fit. I may never reach any of my goals, but I am healthy and in shape, so that it what counts the most. ;)
Tracy, I have never had crescent roll cheesecake, but I'm sure it was delicious!
Lisa, here is the pumpkin fluff recipe:
1.5c canned pumpkin
1tsp ground cinnamon
0.5c Splenda that measures like sugar
1tbsp light maple syrup
1 12oz container light Cool Whip
1 1.3oz box sugar-free vanilla pudding, dry
Mix pumpkin, cinnamon, Splenda and maple syrup together until well blended.
In separate bowl (I actually just use the Cool Whip container), mix Cool Whip and pudding mix together until well blended.
Combine the pudding mixture with the pumpkin mixture, stir until well mixed.
Keep refrigerated until ready to eat. Serve chilled.
You can also put this into a graham cracker crust to make a pumpkin fluff pie. :thumbsup2
Good for you to remember not to get mad at yourself! Those fluctuations are natural and don't mean anything in the long term unless you let them...if you do, they can have the power to throw everything off. Don't give them that power! But I understand that perfectionism. ;)
I was 1.6lbs down from last Friday, so that's a good thing. :banana:
I also shared a bottle of champagne with DH, which most likely caused the spike in my weight this morning...
WooHoo!!!! on the loss!:woohoo: You can do this. :cheer2:
Most likely it was the champagne. ::yes::
Way to go on losing 1.6 pounds, Amy!!!!:cheer2:
Thanks for sharing the pumpkin fluff recipe! It sounds good!:goodvibes
Have a great Saturday!:hug:
We had a party to go to last night, so I didn't do that great with food. I wasn't stuffed to the gills or anything, and I actually only had a couple bites of dessert! But the items I chose were not low fat! I drove, so I had 1 glass of wine when we first got there, then nothing else to drink.
We started some home demolition/renovation yesterday. I wanted to start it last weekend, since we had all week off, but of course DH procrastinated until I asked where the hammer was so I could start it myself. That got his attention and got him motivated! We are removing half the walls in the hallway to open up the living room and kitchen. We are also raising the lowered ceiling in the kitchen and re-doing the kitchen. We are trying to take care of the major demolition ourselves, to save a lot of $$. Right now we are focusing on the living room wall, it's already opened up so much, I can't wait for it to be done!
I didn't work out yesterday, but I had worked out 5 days in a row, so I had a guilt-free break. Shred is on the agenda today - I was not sore from the last workout, so I MIGHT try Level 2 today! But maybe not, I wanted to do 5 workouts at L1 and this will only be my 4th one. And it still kicks my butt DURING the workout. We'll see how I feel when the time comes...
For Friday:
B: chocolate oatmeal
L: Wheat sandwich thin w/turkey, mustard, spinach, provolone; 5 mint M&Ms
S: peppers-n-hummus; 2 mini Reese's cups
D: bowl of homemade chili; cheese-n-1 cracker; homemade sausage roll; spring roll; 1 chocolate covered strawberry; 2 bites boston cream pie; 1 bite chocolate covered cookie; 1 glass white wine
S: 2 mini Reese's cups :sad2: (at least they are gone now!)
E: none
Avoided: CHEESECAKE!!! :eek: :cheer2: I know, I still can't believe it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barb, you are SO right! I will have to remind myself every day to not let my weight fluctuations get to me, but hopefully it will eventually become a natural acceptance. ;)

Lisa, thanks! Let me know if you like the pumpkin fluff!

Tracy, thanks for your constant encouragement. :hug:

congrats on the 1.6 loss Amy :)
the pumpkin fluff sounds delish!!! its weird but pumpkin & cinnamon are hardly in anything over here & i LOVE both, another reason i sooo look forward to WDW ;)

Good luck with the level 2 workout and kicking it up a notch!

Whew, that home improvement project sounds ambitious. I can imagine it will look great when it's all done...getting there and dealing with the work and chaos is the hard part.
