My Dad will not like the menu at R & C so it's not a feasible option for Illuminations viewing for our party (of 9).

Can someone please tell me of another "viewing" area that is accessed by eating at a paricular restaurant (that is not the Grand Gatherings option in the Odyssey Building)?

Sorry...but Rose & Crown is the only one.

La Hacienda de San Angel is the only other restaurant with reasonable access to "good" views of Illuminations from the restaurant. However, they don't have an outdoor viewing area for restaurant patrons, so if you're just going there to see the show you will have to hope you get a table from which you can see it, and that just can't be guaranteed.

Ok. Thanks. How about this... It seems like the R&C viewing area is available to R&C customers - so does it matter when during the day or what you ordered? Maybe we could go for a drink and deserts/snacks earlier. Would that 'qualify' us for the viewing area for Illuminations?

I don't think that you can go back and say "I was here earlier" if that's what you mean.

You could go get drinks at the PUB and they will walk you down to a viewing area before it starts. HOWEVER, don't box yourself into the Rose and Crown. I've viewed twice from this location and had two very different experiences. Once I had dinner and they took us to the "viewing area". We left shortly after. Lots of people from the pub smoking and drinking, lots of foul language, and lots of smoke from the fireworks (that's just bad luck for that night!) We moved. Then last year we reserved a private viewing area near the R&C patio for my MIL's birthday. It was perfect!!

FYI - You cannot "reserve" a location on their patio. It's luck of the draw where you are sat, and needless to say during the busy months the tables on the patio are staked out well in advance.

We normally eat dinner at Chefs de France and then just wander across the street to find a spot. That always turns out just fine for us! ;)

Go for dessert! Their skicky toffee pudding is sooooo good.

We have eaten dinner there twice and have used the outside deck for Illuminations both times. The first time, we had smoke/ash issues from the fireworks (as PP mentioned) but the view was still great and we had an awesome time. (Just cover your beers! :lmao: )

Last year, we still enjoyed it but it was not as awesome of an experience...not really sure why, it just wasn't. Perhaps we will go back to R&C sometime again when they have revamped Illuminations, or even replaced it with a new show :rolleyes1 (and the audience gasps...). But if you've never seen Illuminations and don't want to stake out a spot an hour in advance, go to R&C for a drink or dessert.

We have an ADR for R & C for our upcoming trip in Oct. I know what you mean about the menu. We've never eaten there before and honestly don't know if we'll keep the reservation or not. Especially since we will probably already be stuffed from all the F & W noshing! ;)

funny but R&c is one of our favorites to eat at....surprised there is not a single thing onthe menu the OPs father would eat.

We love the food at R&C. For me it's comfort food.

OP, what kind of food does your Dad like?

Exactly! We ended up here 2x last trip b/c the food was so fantastic!!

last time we were there was F&W festival.. I was all excited about it since I thought it woudl be way cool.. after a couple of hours of standing in long lines and paying CS prices for a bite or two, we gave up F&W as a bad idea if you aren't on DP and have a plethora of snack credits to spend and ate at R&C.

mmmm fish n chips......

Love the Food at R & C, it is one of our favorite places to eat. Love the roast, fish & chips, and DH enjoyed the steak. I really enjoyed the iced tea, it was wonderful. The Potato & Leek soup is good too.

We were at WW for Spring Break and had to cancel at TS ADR and found R & C had an opening. I thought, oh no! It will be terrible but I found I really liked it and they do substitutions. If you don't want roasted potatoes, ask for chips (french fries) or mashed potatoes.

I want to try the Sheppard's Pie next time we go.

:goodvibes

We dined there a few years ago for a nice view of the fireworks and found that the view of the fireworks was terrible but we loved the food! I would be surprised if there wasn't one thing on the menu to choose? OP, what kind of food does your dad like?

We prefer now to eat an early dinner and then go find a great spot for fireworks viewing. Our favorite is in front of Canada.
