We're heading to the Fort in a couple of weeks and wanted a Love Bug update. Can someone who has been recently give me an update on these little pest. How bad are they this year? I'm coming from Georgia right down
I-75.

Thanks

I live in Northern Florida and I have seen them out here. They aren't bad yet but I'm sure they are going to get worse.

When is the peak season for them? We'll be there the 21-30 of Sept. Thanks!

We had a trip in the MH to go to AL last weekend and only saw three on the MH all the way there and back. I think you are still safe at this point.

I live 30 miles west of the Fort, and no signs of those dreaded bugs, yet!

Hopefully, because it has been a relatively dry year, we won't have our normal September invasion! (One can hope, can't they? )

My best suggestion is to make sure you have your vehicles well waxed before heading this way. If you encounter love bugs on the way here, wash your stuff as soon as you can. The "guts" of these bugs are very acidic and eat your paint off very quickly.:scared:

We were at WDW last year from 9-30 to 10-10 and have to say that the love bugs were showing their love everywhere!!:rotfl:

I hate those PDA bugs!!! ;)

So far this year, there haven't been any early love bug reports. Last year at this time, we were getting tons of reports of love bugs, and it was really early in the season.

Hopefully that means this season won't be as bad, because last year was the worst the lovebugs have ever been, by far.

I totally agree. I haven't seen them as bad as last year since I was a little girl.

Yea, it was just crazy. Driving home from Orlando you would see tons of cars that were basically black in the front there were so many love bugs.

Not to mention the big RV's, talk about a chore when you get home :/

Is there any place at the Fort or close by where we can wash the 'love' off??

We normally just bring some rags with us to wash them off. Also, some of the turnpike rest stops have places with wash guns that can help.

There are remedies, one of the ones we've used in the past is to spray the front of the car/camper with PAM (the cooking spray). When you get to wherever you're going, just wash it off, wipe it, and it will get rid of most of the bugs. Just make sure you wash it off cause you don't want PAM just sitting on your car ;)

Thanks for the information. I hope they are not just sitting around the corner waiting for us. Those bugs are sneaky.....

One thing we've also used in the past is dryer sheets. Shoak them in water and they really take the former Love-bugs off your camper.

This trip can't come any sooner. I so need this trip!!!! :cool1: :woohoo:

So, it is now the 10th! I am leaving in 4 more days....how bad are the love bugs now? Also are you getting as much rain as the forecast has called for? I keep checking on the bugs and the weather. At first I was annoyed when I found out about the bugs, now I'm more discouraged about the weather. When it rains in Orlando, does it rain all day?

....But still not looking forward to the bugs! :scared:

Nope, this is Florida summer rain, if it rains it normally is only for 30-60 minutes at most. Of course there are exceptions, but that is the general rule.

So far it seems to be a rather dry summer, although the afternoon storms still roll in from time to time. Don't worry about it too much, for the most part it won't really affect you at all ;)

Well, except for the maddening humidity that comes with the storm :(

Love bug report from 30 miles west of the Fort. No bugs sighted! I repeat... no bugs sighted! :woohoo:

Nah... it doesn't rain all day --- usually 30-60 minutes --- although never rule out an all day rain. Rule of thumb for WDW: always be prepared for rain. Go to Wal-Mart or a dollar store & get some cheap ponchos and don't forget to take them with you! :rotfl2:

Ponchos -check, small umbrella -check, everything packed including these items -check! Thanks for the info. I'm hoping for the best weather...and no bug sightings, and planning for the worst. Well maybe not the worst, but rainy weather anyway. I love Disney, so rain or no rain we will be there with smiles!

I'm still crossing my fingers though on the bugs....yuck. I live up north, so we don't really get too many bugs. Mosquito's and ants mostly, but I stay in in the evenings.

Thanks again!

As of September 10th, I have yet to see a single one! Before I moved down, I came on vacation last year Sept 28-Oct 2, and they were EVERYWHERE! At the rental car place, the guy said something along the lines of "Make sure to fill the tank, but the love bugs are free!"

On the note of rain, make sure you always have that poncho and/or umbrella ON you at all times in the parks. I've been smart enough to always have one, however everytime I've been caught in a storm, it's been in the car, in the locker, in a friend's purse across the park.. etc. I recommend the small $.79 ones at walmart. They're folded up tiny enough to fit in a back pocket or cargo pocket and not feel uncomfortable.

Any changes in the Lovebug status? Thank you to all the Floridians and current vacationers for the reporting in!
