Love Actually...a change of pace

My fellow DIS'ers,
Once again I have watch "Love Actually," and am in absolute obsession with it. The chain of characters to each other and the subtle yet obvious romance that surrounds each and every character. Sure we have our differences in our discussions about Fahrenheit 9/11 and probably many other movies. So I offer a change of pace. A movie about relationships - may it be between husband and wife, bf and gf, bf and bf, gf and gf, mother and son, father and daughter, etc.

"Love Actually" has become my new "go to sleep movie," for I must have the TV on when I eventually fall asleep. The comedy involved is both hip-cracking and knee-slapping, and with the comedy...romance is intertwined into it. Just think about the word "love." As stated, it obviously does not only pertain to a couple....but as we see love in the world, or right next door - "Love Actually - Is All Around."

I'll second that. Great movie. Of course, I love any movie with Colin Firth and Hugh Grant.:D

Remember the Seinfeld when Elaine was the only one who hated "The English Patient"? (and everyone wanted to kill her?) That's me with "Love, Actually."!!:scared1:

PLEASE tell me that I'm not the only one who thought this movie was annoying and even embarrassing to watch! (I mean, the Titanic scene! OMG!!! :bitelip: ) DD and I actually walked out because we couldn't take it anymore.

Sorry, I just don't "get" it. This movie really grated on my nerves and we walked out, too. Not the only ones, either!

My son and his wife walked out when they saw it, too.

I loved it. Could watch it over and over. Thought it was just a nice movie and it was nice to see something with a happy ending and no violence.

Thank you!! I'm sorry to hijack this thread!!! I really am happy when people like movies and I am not criticizing people who like it, but I reall didn't "get' it either!!!

The little boy story line was good. I bought the movie, I watched it once. If there's nothing on tv I'll watch it again, but its not one of my favorites. I liked Bridget Jones' Diary a lot better.

Good grief, you are SO not the only one. I absolutely could not stand this horrible film. It was an utter mess and so "surface" I was actually offended by it in several areas.

Oh man, the subplot with that stupid guy from....was it Wisconsin? Who cares. DH and I were CONVINCED it was a dream sequence...it was the dumbest thing ever. I remember looking over at him in utter disbelief.

Awful, awful movie. I'm sorry I didn't walk out.

I have mixed reviews on the movie. Loved the Liam Neeson and Colin Firth characters and storylines, and the guy who played the rock star was an absolute hoot! He stole the show. Thought my favorite actor Alan Rickman was a little flat in this movie, but Emma Thompson shined. My real "issue" with the movie was the soft porn stars or whatever and the British boy in America storylines -- I just thought both were stupid and unnecessary. So parts I loved, and parts I didn't love. But I still own the movie and have watched it several times, so I'll give it a B+

loved the movie, own it. loved all the story lines. the stand-ins were brilliant, of course I am a huge fan of the Office so couldn't help liking it. As for the guy going to america, I thought it was so funny. I've known many women who just love an english accent!

I LOVED this movie. I am a Hugh Grant fan, and I thought it was just a nice bunch of love stories without any violence or other goody stuff you'd see in other movies. It's done by the same people who did "Four Weddings and a Funeral", which is another one of my favorites.

DH has a British accent and the women do coo over him excessively--including me. I loved teasing him over this part of the movie!

I have to vote for LOVING this movie. I didn't get to see it till it came out on video but I liked it so much, I went out and bought the DVD.

an english accent slays me every time.

I thought the softcore porn (or whatever it was they were doing)was hilarious and I saw a mother covering up her 14 yo DD's eyes when Dh and I went to see it. It was too funny.

I thought the movie was great, DH thought it was So So but loved the music and bought the CD. :)

I LOVE this movie! :lovestruc :lovestruc I saw it twice in the theater and bought it the day it came out. Hugh Grant cracks me up in this movie and Billy Bob as the scuzzy American president was perfect, I was    so hard it hurt! But I loved Notting Hill and Bridget Jones too, I'm a sucker for British romantic comedies.

if you have or rent the dvds, you have to check out the extras, especially the cut scenes. particularly the stand-ins and Liam and his stepson.

My dh and I loved this movie. In fact, dh asked for the dvd for his Father's Day gift! Although I liked the "stand-ins" story line, I would have enjoyed that part more had they been clothed. The movie we didn't like, but most people did, was Lost in Translation.

Well there you go! I loved Lost in Translation! I guess that's why they make all kinds of movies -- for all kinds of tastes!

BTW -- I loved the English Patient, too. So Elaine would not be happy with me!

I absolutely loved "Love Actually." My favorite story lines were the one with the little boy and the one that involved Keira Knightley. Wonderful movie.

Absolutely, i don't understand how people don't "get" it. It's such a simple movie. hehe. anyways, this along with "Lost in Translation," love 'em. back breaking hilarious! haha

keep it real,
