I think he may have tried to become more controversial and broached controversial issues in an effort to boost ratings. Don't these types of shows thrive on rants, arguing, controversy, etc.? The biggies -- O'Reilly, Beck, Olbermann, etc. all seem to be opinionated ranters who thrive on debate and aren't afraid to be viewed as controversial. It seemed like he was trying to generate some of that vim and vigor and move into that mold. That endears him to some and alienates him from others.
My understanding is his background is in business -- he was a business reporter originally, I believe.
But Dobbs said his world view changed after the 2001 terrorist attacks and corporate corruption scandals, and he began to more freely express his opinions.
CNN is in 4th place right now as far as the news channels are concerned.
He and the president of CNN do not get along, and his ratings stink. Doesn't he go up against The Ed Show?
Anyway.. my feelings? Don't let the door hit ya!
Dobbs' ratings had cooled from the height of the immigration discussion. But his 879,000 viewers on Tuesday still eclipsed MSNBC's Chris Matthews (Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith had more than double the audience) and even beat Campbell Brown's CNN show, which followed Dobbs at 8 p.m. ET in prime-time, according to the Nielsen Co.
Maybe they let him "save face" by quitting instead of "firing him" due to his ratings?

I hope he goes back to business. He was really informative.
