LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

So now all of the talies that we 'knew' are dead? What was the point in that whole thing then?

I fell like they added the woman because Kate is on the other side of the island so they need a substitute for now.

I can't help, but wonder if Juliette's tape isn't some sort of manipulation still. I don't trust her.

What about those guys from last season (?) who were in the cold climate?

Jenn Lynn, every point you brought up I had thought of too. And what about Desmond's girlfriend(Penny) who those two guys were working for. Oh, and Bernard was a tailie and he is still alive, for now.

Oh right. They never show him so I forgot about him. :rotfl:

I don't *think* this is spoilers, but Damon and Carlton said in an interview that by the end of this mini-run (next week) we'd look back at the end of last season and think half of what we knew was dead on. . . and we'll completely re-evaluate the rest. So I don't know if Penny and the Portuguese men will be back. . . or just the storyline will go back.
The previews didn't seem to hint towards Penny and company, so who knows.

The way they did this season though sorta altered the way the storylines run. They said this first run of 6 episodes would be like a mini-series, so the focus is a lot smaller than the full scope of the season. Once it comes back in a couple months and we get 17 straight episodes it'll move faster and we'll get more answers.

Edited to add: As for remaining tailies. . . don't forget Cindy (was that her name?) We don't know if she's dead or not, but she was abducted from the jungle when they were making their way to the Lost camp.

NOOOO!!!! They killed of EKO? I wonder why? I think they could have developed his character a lot more.

i know that was really stupid. now we have to watch back stories of that new chick and her boyfriend/husband whatever. you know that's why they killed him off. i wonder if anyone else is going to get killed off

Oh man. I hate jumping on the bandwagon, but this show is really disappointing me. Tonight's story seemed to be disjointed and jumping around alot(more than usual). For example, the first scene with Ecko lying in the tent. Suddenly Sayid appears. Where did he come from? Last time we saw him, he was on the other side of the island looking for Jack, Kate and Sawyer. So he shows back up on the beach and noone asks him what happened?!? Its like everyone suddenly knows what is going on without asking any questions or being told.

And I am really annoyed with the introduction of the new survivor characters. Who are these two and why are we being introduced to them now? It seems to me like they are killing off established characters(Ecko) to bring in new ones. And their introduction doesn't seem to advance the story at all(like Desmond). Its like they are backgound props that have suddenly started talking. Very weird.

i noticed that too. we hadn't seen anything of Sayid or Sun or Jin.....were they even there? i didn't see them.

i still like how no one asked Charlie what really happened to the hatch. he was the first one to come out and he acted like he was never even in there, and then they find Locke and Eko and no one asks ANYONE what happened.

i know i don't like the other "new" characters as well. like someone else said, they have Kate on the other side of the island now, i guess they need another new female for that side of the island(how annoying).

lol at the backround props that have suddenly started talking comment! :lmao:

Don't forget that the survivors haven't been all that forthcoming with info since day 1. They've never sat down and told everyone what happened every time they wandered off into the jungle. Hurley even made a joke early on about the "clique" . . .so in the history of the show it's not unusual for people to not tell or ask about what has happened.

Here's a differant spin on things. The producers have said that this season will be more of a focus on the Others so that may be why we aren't seeing as much about the survivors.

i said the same thing. i don't know if i trust her or not. sometimes she seems genuine, other times she seems to only care about herself.

I also think Juliet cannot be trusted. I don't think Ben can either, but I think he may be the lessor of two evils. I really feel if Jack saves Ben, Ben will help him, but if Jack chooses to let Ben die on the operating table, Juliet will screw Jack over. I think Juliet wants to be the leader and getting Ben out of the way, is her only way.
I was also disappointed that Eko was killed off. He was one of my favorite characters, but if the actor portraying him has another project, I guess the show had no choice, but to kill him off.
I'm also confused why the smoke did not kill Eko the first time he saw it. Is it something with the person being afraid? The first time Eko saw it he looked at it dead on, this time he seemed to be afraid of it, but I'm probably just reaching, lol. He did say it was coming for the rest of them, so I guess that won't be the last we see the smoke.
We also finally hear what Locke saw and he said a beautiful light. So, does the smoke judge decide whether the person lives or dies. So if it decides the person lives, it turns into a beautiful light and if the person is going to die it turns into a human smoke form? I still have so many questions.

.

This is kind of what I was thinking, too. Ben seemed a lot more sympathetic last night. Juliet seemed suspicious.

But you just never know with this show!!!

I was disappointed that we haven't seen more about Sun and Jin -- Sayid is back from their little excursion on the sailboat, so they must be back too. No explaination about how they got back?

I hate that they killed Eko. It didn't seem that his problems were all resolved, but then I thought they could've taken Anna-Lucia's character farther too. I don't understand why Eko was afraid of the smoke this time, when he wasn't afraid last time. I assume the smoke can take the form of a person?

I also don't trust Juliet -- of course, I don't trust Ben either. Remember that she was the one holding the gun to Kate's head, and Sawyer commented that most of the Others aren't killers -- but Juliet is. I can really believe the idea that she's trying to take over leadership of the island, and getting rid of Ben is one way to do it . . . on the other hand, the tumor is aggressive; why not just wait for nature to take its course?

I don't think Jack will kill Ben. It's not in keeping with his character; on the other hand, one's morals could certainly change while being held prisoner in a shark tank. I think, however, it's more likely that he'll operate -- because he did operate on Colleen, and he can't stand to see someone suffer -- and Ben will die anyway . . . then Juliet will turn on Jack and say that he did it.

But didn't the smoke monster try to take Locke into a hole of some sort? I don't think it was for Locke and Smoke Monster to share a nice candlelight dinner... Remember, from Season 1?

The whole spoiler thread v non-spoiler thread frustrates me a lot. But I did want to mention in case people weren't aware of the podcasts that Damon and Carleton do...you can get them on abc.com or iTunes. I won't post any spoilers but a lot of the questions that have been asked here and things people are saying they are frustrated about have been addressed on the podcast.

Ok so I've been thinking about this alot. I guess because it's bugging me but if the S.M. came to Eko and if Eko would have confessed correctly, would S.M. spared his life?

I think ECKO was afraid of the smoke this time cause he realized that his brother was not his brother at all. And the smoke was evil as was his 'brother'.

I don't trust anyone :) I think it is all brainwashing for Jack. It is meant to keep him wondering who is doing what to whom. I also think he WILL operate on Ben and he will do his best and he will die anyway. And Ben making the comment about believing in God was another bit of hogwash.

I still love this show. I know they keep giving us more questions, but I still love it.

All the Tallies aren't dead. Roses' husband is still alive, can't remember his name.

Yes, Locke was being taken into the hole and he wanted the smoke to take him. Remember he told Jack it would be okay, but Jack wouldn't let him go. I think Locke thought it would be okay, because the first time he saw the smoke it was a beautiful light.

Well I hate to admit it but I fell asleep during the last 10 minutes of the show. So I totally missed what happened to Eko - I take it that the smoke monster killed him somehow?

The two biggest questions my DS and I had were - Why the heck is Sayid back and nobody is even asking him what happened!? and Who is the new couple?! Is it like Star Trek where the new "Ensign Johnson" shows up only to get killed off right away??? :sad2:

Wasn't there an instance in Season 1 where Locke comes face to face with the monster and nothing happened? They never showed the monster but just Locke standing there staring up at it?
