LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

A lot has been said regarding the fact that the actor got a ticket, just as Libby/Ana Lucia did...so bye bye. However I did read that the actor lost both his parents this last year (he is a long way from home) and also had the opportunity to direct his own film, which would need him to go home to UK. This seems to be the official line, that Adewale just wanted to leave.

Personally I am not a happy camper, loved his character. Hated how he died too.

Don't forget also that although Locke saw a bright light, Jack (I think) actually rescued him from being dragged underground by the smoke stuff at a later point.

Eko was on Regis and Kelly today and he said he knew his job was short term and that he would die. Ana Lucia said the same thing.

He also said he thinks the producers don't even know what the black smoke thng is as he thinks they make things up as they go!! He said this when Regis asked him if he thinks they'll ever reveal what the black smoke is (Regis says its a dinosaur).

i often think that myself

This is something I've wondered about concerning Michael and Walt. Even if Walt did grow ALOT between seasons, what's the problem? I mean, the Island does alot of strange things, so seems like they could have explained his growth by making it just one more weird thing that happens on the Island.

I figure that ...
  • there has to be a third group on the island. I don't know exactly who and what they are -- renegades or test subjects from Dharma that got away and out of control, another group of scientists, or something else. They have to be the group that grabbed the kids and others from the tail section. Remember when Jin saw them when they passed by and how dirty and "wild" they appeared to be? Maybe Patchy the Pirate (DW Lauri's name for eyepatch guy) is part of them, or he's another "Desmond" stuck in a hatch somewhere. Maybe the guy in the cage across from Sawyer at first was part of them?

  • I think a lot of things hint towards there being multiple groups on the island. Ignoring the possibility that Kelvin lied to Desmond, they referred to the Others as "the hostiles" . . . seems to hint at a separation between those two groups. Perhaps two segments of Dharma that went their separate ways after the collapse? We can now at least assume that the Hydra station is at or near the new island and from what we have seen, that's the only one that Ben's Others control. The three others that we've seen on the main island have been abandoned or inhabited by someone not affiliated with the Ben's Others (I'm just gonna keep calling them that for now, LOL) I think once we find out about the eyepatch dude, it may clear that up a little more. OH and don't forget. Eko found a glass eye in the hatch that the Tailies were living in. . . so can we assume that this is the owner of that glass eye?

Ewwwww! I don't remember that. Where did he find it???

MyGoofy26 - good catch! I totally forgot about Eko finding that glass eye.

Geez, I can't even remember what I had for dinner last night, and now I have to remember little details from a tv show that aired a year ago! :guilty:

I was so upset Wednesday night and kept yelling at the tv.

A split from Dharma is my guess too given the "hostiles' situation. I think back to the system built in the hatch to watch the doors. You only build something like that if you are expecting holstile company.

Possible spoiler below:

If you watched the special web movie about the creation of the hatch, and the third party video of the meeting, it looks like there was disagreement about the tests on humans. Maybe there was quite a shakeup over the whole thing.

We are really bummed Eko is gone. He was one of our favorite characters.

Interesting that the "monster" looks different for each person.

Found an interesting podcast this morning.....

It's called "LOST Sucks." You can search iTunes Music Store for it. It's a guy who likes the show but rants about some things that happen on it. It's a fairly short show and worth a listen.

Here's the guy's website:
http://lost.big-o.org/

Here's his own definition of what his podcast is:

What it is

This is a podcast. It’s full of sarcasm, rants, criticism, walks on the beach, and lousy humor. Well maybe not walks on the beach.

I’m tired of people on podcasts and forums getting flamed for not likeing something about the show, so I decided to start a podcast that covers the “bad” stuff that no body else wants to talk about.

Email me an audio or text comment if you want to be on the show.

And before you ask…YES I am a fan of the show. Downright fanatic. Trust me, you don’t want to call me on a Wednesday night if there is a new episode on.

I think this is where the powers that be can't win. For two seasons people begged to know who those freaky people in the jungle are and now they're starting to introduce us to them and people (not directing this to you personally - it's a very common complaint. . your post just made a good intro for it) complain that we're not seeing enough of the survivors.

This is a HUGE ensemble cast, and you just can't tell everyone's stories in 42 minutes once a week. They're naturally going to have to let some regulars slide into the background from time to time otherwise we're stuck with season 1 where they rotated backstories of a dozen regulars and don't get any further.

I don't mind hearing about the Others the show is moving so slow! And they added all these new "Other" characters, so why the two new plane crash survivors?

Other shows, like Prison Break, do a very good job of following multiple story lines, but I'm not really impressed with the way Lost is doing it.

They spend all this time in an episode to have Locke (doesn't surprise me he was at a pot farm he seems to whacked out all the time) go rescue Eko who ends up dying a few episodes later....?? Just seems like a waste.

I don't know - I see it as long term character development. Locke turned into a different person in the hatch (especially after finding The Pearl and thinking he was being duped) That episode set him back on his original path, being one with the island. . . it re-established him as the John Locke we knew in season 1.

I just posted the full interview over on the spoilers thread, but this part isn't a spoiler and seems relevent to recent conversations. It's an interview from TV Guide with Damon and Carlton.

One frustration I'm hearing is that viewers don't understand why you would bring in new characters like Paolo (Rodrigo Santoro) and Nikki (Kiele Sanchez) when it seems like you're already having trouble servicing the original characters.
Damon: That's a legitimate concern, and I wouldn't say that we have difficulty servicing the initial cast. I do think that we acknowledge that the franchise of Lost — if there was one since we don't have bodies on gurneys or clients coming into law firms — is the introduction of new characters. We basically get two criticisms: One is that we're not with our main people enough, and the other is [that people are] sick and tired of seeing redundant flashback stories. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. And another criticism we've been getting since the very beginning of the show is, "How come we never hear from, or incorporate into the story, the other passengers, the ones who are sort of carrying logs around in the background?" Obviously we knew it'd be tricky starting to fold Rodrigo and Kiele into the show as if they'd been there all along. But it was an effort on our part to sort of deal with two out of those three criticisms. Although the inevitable, “Why aren't we spending more time with Claire instead of spending time with people we don't know yet?" was going to come up. We suffer the slings and arrows of criticisms at almost every creative turn, and again, it's all in the service of the uber-story that is Lost.

Well, I just have to say that tonight's episode was my favorite so far. We were yellin' at the TV, the neighbors probably think we're crazy!

I missed a line from the show last night. Can someone tell me what Sawyer asked Kate in the cage, he started with, "Tell me something Freckles" and then asked her something that I didn't hear (Emergency weather announcement) and then she answered with something I didn't hear and he said, "I love you too." What did I miss? It sounded big!

I missed that too! I'm in Toronto and LOST comes through ABC's Buffalo affiliate station so that whole dialogue had no sound because of the Buffalo weather announcement.

Also when Jack was talking on the walkie talkie during the surgery, what did he say? My VCR cut off at that point so I never heard the ending or what he wanted? What happened during the last couple of minutes? Thanks.

They had just had sex (finally). He asked her if she said that (I love you) because they were beating him up...she didn't answer him but she kissed him instead. He then said, I love you too.

Jack hurt Ben on purpose on the operating table and said if he doesn't fix what he did (I think he cut his kidney sack) he will die in an hour. He asked the guy for his walkie talkie or he won't save Ben; meanwhile the guy (I don't know their names) was about to kill Sawyer (for his dead wife's sake) and Kate was begging him not to, saying she'd do ANYTHING but he just said she should watch.

Then the guy in the ER talked on the walkie talkie saying give the walkie talkie to Katie NOW or Ben will die. So he did give it to Kate.

Jack told Kate she has an hour to run and she needs to RUN. She said no, she won't leave without them. He said she better run and he asked if she remembers the story he told her on the first day of the crash when she was sewing him up and she said yes. He said when she gets away (in an hour) he wants her to tell him that story over the walkie talkie (so he knows she's safe).

Meanwhile, the guy still had the gun to Sawyers head.

That is how it ended.

I'm a horrible re-capper so forgive me if its botched up.

Beattyfamily thanks for the recap. I really appreciate it. My VCR cut off at 10 to tape Weeds. LOL.
