LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

I used to love reading the spoilers and stuff during the first season, but then realized that it wasn't as much fun to watch if I knew who was going to die or what was going to happened. It took the surprise and anticipation away. Starting with the second season, I stopped looking. Trust me, it's kiling me. I don't want to wait, but I don't want to dissapoint myself either. I'm sure though if they have explained it on the web, then they will eventually put it in the show. After all, they have to know that not all their viewers are searching on the web for answers.

So, we do get to find out what the rollercoaster sounding thing is? The thing that grabbed Locke and tried to drag him down the hole?

Totally understand about the spoilers. I can't help myself, but luckily this season there haven't really been major ones. Just hints they feed to gossip columnists so they've forced me to be patient and the speculation is fun. I know they said that everything in the webmaze wasn't necessary to understanding and enjoying the show. I didn't follow it, but I did find a recap and a Hanso video pieced together which explained the numbers. So I don't know if the origin of the numbers really plays into the storyline much, but they have to explain them in some capacity for tv viewers.

And from what I've heard we will find out what the noise/smoke/grabby thing is, LOL. At least that's what Damon and Carlton said - I think it was the last podcast at the end of last season. Just not sure when.

One thing about this that I wonder about: Ethan and Goodwin seemed to have run to their respective places with the crash victims, so that would put the Other's village on The Island, rather than on Alcatraz. Unless, of course, they both ran to boats...

Right. And if you recall from the first episode of the season, when we are first shown the "Others" village, the camera pans back to reveal the whole island. On one side is the "Others" village, on the other side is the plane wreckage. Which would make us assume they are all on the same island and it would be fairly easy for Ethan and Goodwin to just run to the crash sites. I wonder if the "Alcatraz" island is set up strictly for their experiments. And the Losties Island is where their home is.

I hate this too! I saw that guy golfing and I thought I was going crazy. Where the hell did he come from? :confused3 Stick to the people we know please.
Apparently they've killed off so many people that they need fresh faces to keep the island "stocked"! :teeth:

I didn't mind the golfing guy though. I recognized the actor from "Love Actually", one of my fave movies. He's a Brazilian actor named Rodrigo Santoro. IMDB has him listed for at least 4 epsiodes as "Paulo".

I was thinking along the lines of the the Others living on one side and the lostaways on the other. I forgot about the camara panning out on the first epi.

I wonder if alcatraz is where the hatch was for the animals. We know they have the sharks and the room that can be flooded, that Jack is in. We know about the polar bears and the cages that they were in. Maybe they all moved over there after 1- the plane crashed, 2- after they captured Walt or 3- after they took Sawyer, Jack and Kate?

I thought his name was Neil on Lost?

The show has always had the background people on, just, well, in the background.

So...

The X-ray with the tumor ... what if they are of Jack? Hew is probably close to 40 on the show.

And ... the security system that we have seen but may not have realized it ... I'm thinkin' the "mechanical" bird.

I'm pretty sure the Others live on the main island, but their 'prison' is on the other island.

Never thought of it like that. Sounds like Locke should be in this bunch also. Didn't Ben say that he was orginally coming for Locke?
I don't think Locke needs redemption -- he's not done bad things. He needs spiritual satisfaction, perhaps, but not redemption.

I don't believe they said "peace lovers", that was my wording. However, I thought I heard them say something about "not killing people"
Big difference between refusing to kill and being non-violent... I believe that distinction is very clear in the minds of The Others.

But, what about Claire? Do you believe the others were going to kill her? Or, do you think the "escape" was actually a sanctioned one? And, if so...why??

Interesting guess about Jack. Don't you think that Jack would know if his spine was that bad?

Where was the mechanical bird? I don't remember it.

It was in the season finale, and I think also season 1. There were all these people on forums swearing up and down the bird squawked "Hurley" so as a joke the writers put it into the Season 2 finale - when the bird swooped down at the group headed out with Michael and Hurley said, "Did that bird just say my name?"

Might be. I don't remember what they actually called him on the show, just going by what I read on IMDB.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0763928/

Maybe he's one of the others so he has two names? :teeth:

Wierd! Why? Because, I SWEAR, that he was listed as Neil earlier this fall on imdb. I was searching for him throughout the first few episodes because I loved him in Love Actually and was totally excited that he was going to be on Lost. I would bet $100.00 that he was listed as "Neil" on imdb earlier...

I must be going  .

NOOOO!!!! They killed of EKO? I wonder why? I think they could have developed his character a lot more.

I'm so upset!!!!!!!!! I can't believe they did that! Why didn't they kill off someone else, anyone else!!!!!! Heck, Hurley is dispensable! (J/J!!)

Posted this in another thread. . . but Adewale is working on another project, so I think that had to do with why he was written off. I can't remember exactly, but starring and directing I think? Which would leave little time for the show.

He was such a great character though. . . and I STILL have no idea what to think about that cloud of smoke! And who was "Yemi" . . . a figment of his imagination? The smoke thing materializing in human form? LOL! So confused!

But how about Juliet's movie? Nice! Next week is gonna be good. . . but I bet we don't get to find out of Jack "kills" Ben or not. Next week is the last new episode for a few months so can we say cliffhanger?

Yea and if they keep killing off people on that dang island there won't be anyone left before too long!

I also wonder if smoke monster can take human form. If so that brings about an awful interesting twist to the equation. Maybe the whole island and people on it are figmets of Jack's smoke monster imagination? At least it wouldn't be that cop out of it all being a dream like other tv shows have done.... Only a little like those dream sequences! :rolleyes1

Is this the first time we've seen that couple that went with Locke and Sayid?

Kill off one... add two more. :surfweb:

Oh! Something I almost forgot (I need to go back through to pick up on little things. .. either that or start taking notes) I think Ben verified once and for all that the plane crash was coincidence and that the survivors are all just a coincidence when he have his speech about 2 days after the x-rays were taken a spinal surgeon fell from the sky, if that's not God he doesn't know what is. So the Others didn't bring Jack to the island.

I've had this theory rolling around in my head and this sort of solidifies it for me. For the past 2 seasons we've seen how all of these characters are interconnected somehow and we thought there must be a reason they're all survivors. I think the show is going to get into how interconnected everybody on the planet is (think 6 degrees of separation) and it could have been any set of survivors and there would have been links in their past. Obviously this theory doesn't cover the whole plot of the show. . . but I have this feeling that Dharma will be studying the "global community" as we find out more. Getting into the whole "there's a reason why everything happens" I think we may find out that it's true. . . it's just a matter of digging back far enough to find the ties. And most people will never figure out their connections to everyone else. . . but I'm wondering if those files they have on the survivors do make those connections.

Ok, too much thinking for one night.

They've been trying to work them in for a couple weeks . . . We saw them the first time when everyone came back to the beach. I'm sure there will be more since there were 48 survivors from the original Losties. It's a little weird how they worked them in, but it's better than finding more survivors out in the woods, LOL.

Oh man. I hate jumping on the bandwagon, but this show is really disappointing me. Tonight's story seemed to be disjointed and jumping around alot(more than usual). For example, the first scene with Ecko lying in the tent. Suddenly Sayid appears. Where did he come from? Last time we saw him, he was on the other side of the island looking for Jack, Kate and Sawyer. So he shows back up on the beach and noone asks him what happened?!? Its like everyone suddenly knows what is going on without asking any questions or being told.

And I am really annoyed with the introduction of the new survivor characters. Who are these two and why are we being introduced to them now? It seems to me like they are killing off established characters(Ecko) to bring in new ones. And their introduction doesn't seem to advance the story at all(like Desmond). Its like they are backgound props that have suddenly started talking. Very weird.
