LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

Kate blabbing to Jack about Naomi in front of Juliett was so unrealistic. After everything Kate went through with the Others, I just don't understand why she would do that.

I think Naomi could be working with the Others. Juliett didn't seem the least bit surprised that a strange woman just parachuted on the island:confused3

I thought it was a stupid move, but very true to her character. She is extremely jealous of Juliet, although she doesn't want to admit it to herself. I think she torn about whether or not Juliet is working for the other side - she believes Juliet is possible of it, but she also wants to trust Jack. I think she is as worried as everyone else that maybe Jack has turned. She struck out, trying to show them both that their realationship is making people distrust Jack. She's like the ex-girlfriend who wants to convince everyone that everything was better before the new girlfriend came along.

My big question is: Who the heck were the two children that Ben walked by in the other's tent camp after failing to kill his father? The boy was about 11 and the girl about 14? Were they stolen from the losties, do they look familiar? If there's really an issue with babies being born, who the heck are those kids and where did they come from????? AAAACKKKCKKKK

As far as Locke's father saying they were in hell, I believe he was set up, the crash was on purpose and they drugged him. He probably really does believe he's in hell. Well, he's probably really IN hell now, if such a place exists. :rotfl:
Kate's a piece of work, tattling to Jack and WHAT the heck is the secret about that Jack doesn't want Juliett to share? I'm guessing Kate's pregnant.

Just wanted to subscribe to this thread. Ya'll have some interesting theories.
Was anyone else laughing when Naomi said to Sayid "Remind me not to rescue you."?

How can Locke be sure his dad is really dead? They threw the Russian into that barrier fence and he showed up to help Desmond et al with Naomi. He even said (paraphrasing) "I was dead not too long ago" So what's going on with that?

Also, I've been thinking that the Other's are getting to a point that they are ready to overthrow Ben. Hopefully next weeks episode answers some of those questions.

they are from the tail section of the plane. Eko and Anna Lucia got them out of the water... one of them needed CPR.

They were taken by the others from the tailies camp. We've seen them several times.

The episode the Other 48 Days tells their story and we saw them in the Other's camp on the research island. The girl asked Jack about Anna Lucia.

I completely missed that, thank you very much!

Don't forget, Locke doesn't know about Misha coming back to life.

I thought it was kind of funny. Just because it was sort of random--all she did was get the dynamite and leave. She didn't do anything else. So either it was just thrown in there for fun, or she's planning something.
ITA. That scene made me LOL :happytv:

Don't forget, Locke doesn't know about Misha coming back to life.

Remember they just assumed that Mikhail was dead. No one ever actually checked. While he said he was dead, we also know he lies.

I think he was injured by the fence but not killed. If you look at the episode closely you can still see him breathing.

The plane being found with all the bodies bothers me. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think they searched the bottom of the ocean so thoroughly. I thought when they found part of a planes wreckage in the ocean, they just assumed everyone was dead. Even if they sent cameras to the bottom to find the entire plane (which the Others could have moved there or faked somehow), would they really have sent them through the wreckage and counted the dead bodies? I didn't think that was standard procedure.

So even though it's plausible that the Others faked it, I find it hard to believe that people like Naomi are so convinced that everyone was dead. If I was Naomi in a situation like that, I'd be responding "Holy Cow! There were survivors?!", not "No, those people are all dead." :confused3

But what if Naomi is an Other herself? She could have a picture of Desmond and Penny. The Others have gotten things on other Losties...heck, they even got Locke's father! What if they planted Naomi so that she could tell the Losties that the plane was found and eliminate their hope? It could be more master manipulation from Ben. Just a thought.

I wonder the same. Don't you think the voice on the radio and what Locke's dad said about the flight could all be controlled by the Others? If the Others didn't set up a 2nd plane to be found I think they are controlling what the Losties are told.

I'm having a difficult time figuring out if Naomi is an Other or if she really is from Penny because of how the last season ended. UGH!

But Locke's father acted as if he had heard that Locke had died in the airplane crash before he was involved in the car wreck. I'm not putting the Others above brainwashing (since that's exactly what they do), but if they were going to lie to make the Losties feel no one was looking for them - why not just say "They found part of the plane debris and believe there are no survivors." Why make up the "found the whole plane, everyone was inside" part - just so the Losties will know they are being messed with? So they know the Others are that powerful? If I knew I was being messed with, I think I would be less likely to behave and go along with their schemes without fighting back. Plus, Ben likes to be the one who plays with people's heads. He had plenty of time to tell Jack they had found a plane.

I HATE THIS SHOW!!

but I keep watching!

I told DH I should just stop watching and have him tell me what happens each week. He says explaining this show to someone not watching every episode would be difficult, so I guess I'll hafta keep watching.

St Elsewhere was the dream or imagination of the autistic son of one of the doctors. If I remember correctly he had a snowglobe of the hospital.

Newhart was Bob's dream. He woke up with Suzanne Pleshette (wife from the first Newhart show) and told her 'you would not believe the dream I just had. I was married to someone else and we owned a hotel......'

I really hope Lost doesnt do this. It's been done too many times IMO

The producers came out and flat out said that it would not be an ending like St. Elsewhere, Dallas or Newhart.

Beginning of End for Lost

Finally, some answers—just not the ones Lost fans were expecting.

ABC has announced that the island-dwelling series will run for 48 more episodes, to be spread out over three 16-episode seasons, before drawing to a close at the end of 2009-10 season.

Whether that end is heralded with the shattering of a tropical snowglobe, Jack awakening from a long dream, the completion of a stint in purgatory or—as is most likely—some heretofore unseen scenario, the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 will, one way or another, make their way off the island.

The announcement, first reported last week by E! Online columnists Kristin Veitch and Marc Malkin, comes after executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof publicly called for the network to set an end date for the show—not only to assuage viewer fears that the series, which began to shed viewers in its new time slot this year, was not simply treading water to bulk up its episode count, but to allow writers the ability to plot out the remainder of the series according to the creators' original plan.

Lindelof, who first pushed for such a move during January's Television Critics Association conference, said that having a specific date in mind was "incredibly liberating. Like we've been running a marathon and we actually know where the finish line is for the first time."

"What we didn't know was how long we had to play the story out," Cuse told the Hollywood Reporter, adding that the Lost brain trust has always known where they wanted the storyline to end up.

"By defining the endpoint we can now really map out the rest of the series in confidence," he said. "We sort of view Lost as a mosaic. Now there are only 48 more tiles to go into that mosaic, and we're figuring out, along with all the other writers, exactly where they go."

In January, Cuse and Lindelof, backed by cocreator J.J. Abrams, voiced their concerns that commercial interests (i.e., ABC keeping the show on air until the last viewer turned) potentially would trump artistic interests (i.e., the producers ending the series on a well thought out and hopefully high note), saying that they hoped the show would run for just 100 episodes, or two more full seasons.

The guys just about got their wish.

The final three seasons, at 16 episodes each, will bring Lost's to 119 or 120 episodes—the same numbers as if the show carried on for just two 24-episode cycles. By stretching out the show, ABC is able to make the end into more of an event.

Setting an end date also ensured that Lindelof and Cuse would remain with the series through to the end, as making the terminal announcement was a condition of both men reupping with the network.

"In considering the powerful storytelling of Lost, we felt that this was the only way to give it a proper creative conclusion," ABC honcho Steve McPherson said. "And, due to the unique nature of the series, we knew it would require an end date to keep the integrity and strength of the show consistent throughout, and to give the audience the payoff they deserve."

It's a payoff that Lindelof and Cuse claim is set in stone.

"There will be no extensions of enhancements," Lindelof told Variety. "That number [48] is absolute...once you begin to see where we're going, I think the idea of sequels and spinoffs will completely go away."

As to where exactly that is, fans will have to wait until the third season finale, set to air on May 23.

E! Online TV columnist Veitch, however, has been touting for weeks that the finale will be a "game-changer," which she says the show's writing team is referring to as "the snake in the mailbox," in terms of the direction of the show will start to set up the countdown to the end.

ABC also indicated the remaining three seasons will air uninterrupted, à la 24, which means the fourth season won't debut until January 2008.

Fans and critics have groused that the current season, which began with a six-episode run in the fall, failed to gain any creative momentum until the last few episodes. Still, Lost remains in the top 15 most watched shows, averaging 15.1 million viewers, including several key demos. It's also the most TiVo'd show on television, consistently ranks among the most downloaded shows on iTunes and is a strong performer on DVD.

Thanks southernbohemian! That is a great article. While I am sad to see the end coming(only 48 episodes!! yikes), I wish they would do it in 2 seasons rather than 3. I don't like when the networks stretch things out like that.

I think this is awesome news for Lost! :thumbsup2 I too wish they could do it over two seasons instead of three, I understand the network's need to have it around longer. Best of all, this should improve hopes that it won't be taken off the air prematurely. Now that would REALLY be bad.

Thank you for posting that story, southernbohemian, it is bittersweet news. I'm sad to see it's ending yet I'm so glad to know we'll get to see a conclusion.
