I think there's a zoology station on the island that would explain the shark, and possibly the polar bear.

EDIT: HERE it is! I've been looking for it all day! This is from another site; they put this up before Wednesday's episode, where we saw the arrow logo...

There are six constellations of Apollo (which is the name of the candy bar in the station food supply)
1. Cygnus = swan
2. Sagitta = arrow
3. Corvus = crow
4. Crater = goblet
5. Ophiuchus = serpent handler
6. Orion = the hunter

I have come to a few conclusions. I think LOST has all to do with Disney. See the coincidences:

The Swan symbol--Disney Swan Resort and Hotel-maybe a sponsor, or there is a secret underground part of the hotel=hatch

Sawyer-Tom Sawyer Island

Rose- Briar Rose

ABC is after all the Disney company, that also airs LOST

Michael- Michael Eisner

Walt-The Man himself.

Shannon talking about Finding Nemo (the song La Mer) and I thought the scene in the season finale with Michael in the water yelling for Walt and Walt in the boat yelling "Dad, help me" was just like the scene in Finding Nemo where the dentist/diver Takes Nemo

So, I have seen people mention that Desmond didn't take food when he left ... he first goes into the pantry and grabs things from two sides. The first side seems to be small bottles of some kind, the second side looked like metallic puches of some kind. My take: water and dehydrated food. Then he goes to the bed area where he gets the medicines. When his pack comes open when he trips, there is a bottle on the ground (that kinda looks like it says "Bacardi" ), which I think is the water.
