Hi everyone! My family and I are leaving tomorrow to go on a cruise that leaves on Monday. The cruise goes from LA to Vancouver. My mom and I have both misplaced our passports. Do you have any ideas what we should do? I am a conplete nervous wreck.

Good Luck! I would be tearing the house apart. You will need them to cross the border from Canada.

Is there a passport office in LA? You could go first thing Monday morning and see if they would give you an instant passport or a few hours.

How are you getting back home from Vancouver? If flying from Vancouver, you're in trouble as you need a passport to fly.

If you are traveling across the Canada/US border by land, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate and government issued ID to do so.

The birth certificate & photo ID will work for the cruise as well.

In a pinch, this MIGHT work (possibly like OP's situation) but a Passport or Enhanced Drivers License is now required to cross the Canadian border by land as well. Used to be a birth certificate and ID was enough, but about 4-5 years ago the law changed.

OP - good luck! Do you have a copy of the Passports? Are you sure they aren't in a safe deposit box at a bank? Another "safe" location in your house? I'd be digging through every file and drawer and cupboard. I believe that's considered a repositioning cruise, not closed loop, so a Passport is required for the cruise.

Check all your junk drawers and even glove compartments. Also the last time I lost mine, it was in the pocket of a pair of shorts I had disembarked in on my previous cruise two yrs earlier in my closet!

Really people you need to have your cruise documents and your passports in hand and luggage tags printed and all of that done before you ever pack! Pack those items first a week or two ahead so you aren't scrambling at the last minute!

Try to remember which purse/bag you carried the last time that you used them. See if they are in there. Did you travel somewhere that required a jacket? Maybe they are in the pocket.

Did you put them in a portfolio type notebook a while ago thinking that would be your trip folder? It happened to me so I thought I would mention it in case it helps jog your memory. Wishing you all the best.

Cruised Alaska in Sept. Not DCL. No way the ship would even let you on without a passport. Had mine but almost didn't take it. Because you dock in a different country and disembark back in US you have to HAVE to have a passport. Couple behind us didn't bring them and the worker told them they wont be allowed on ship without it. Sorry to give bad news.

Just reread post. since you will be disembarking in Vancouver you have to go through customs directly off the ship. Keep looking!!

I've gotten a Passport next day before at the Fed building near UCLA. I could have received it same day if I wanted.

If you do this, you will likely not get it in your hands until after 1pm (they need time to print it) AND YOU HAVE TO GET TO THE FEDERAL BUILDING WHEN IT OPENS. Whether you can make it to all aboard after 1pm from UCLA on a Monday is VERY questionable.

Go on the passport website and look to see what the procedures are. At least you will have a chance.

I believe you have to call and technically schedule an appt. The federal officer will ask you when you line up whether you have an appointment before letting you in. The line itself will be about 45 minutes long, with another 1-2 hour wait inside, then another wait for your passport.

This is not good. Even getting a replacement Monday will be hard. Do you have the required birth certificates.

If so go to this page and call the number NOW. http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_909.html

Try to book a Monday morning appointment. If you can't get one and want to risk the trip to LA anyway go there at 6:30 am and be waiting when they open. Throw yourself on their mercy you might get lucky. Take the birth certificates, required photos, cruise documents etc... With you

We're looking everywhere. There is a place online called rushmypassport or something like that that can send it in 24 hours. But it is 500 $ per passport. We are going to keep looking. Thank you for the support, it means a lot. I'm freaking out and having a nervous breakdown.

We have an "important document" file folder, could it be in one of those? Good luck!!

Top of the refridgerator? Floor behind your desk? Where you usually keep them but they didn't seem to be there when you looked but they are but they are covered by some papers? Next to the computer?

If you have any Pink Slips or place you have Social Security Card look there. We found one of the girls Passport there. She didn't travel with us one time and I put it there. Took me awhile to find it when she needed it. Good luck

I have to say, this post is freaking me out!! I am so nervous for the OP!!!

Do you remember the last time you would have used it? That is a good place to start mentally - might jog your memory of where you placed them.

All luggage pockets, kids luggage, in the car, in underware drawer, sock drawer, night stand, safe, some weird little pocket thing you took on last trip, thinking "if I put my passport in here I will forget it" but put it there anyway, under couch, on book shelves?
:confused3

Check behind your computer
Side pocket of suitcase or cabin bag
Scanner section of your computer
Misc bits (brochures/tickets) from last travel
Handbag (if you use it as ID)
Jewelry safe/letter rack/bill file/filing cabinet/safe deposit box?
With your birth certificate?
Money belt, fanny pack, neck wallet, carry on bag
Disney box in your wardrobe (oh... that's mine)

How did you book your travel? Left PP at travel agent?
Could it be somewhere both you and your Mum went to together? Eg Made copies for safekeeping or opened a joint bank account?

Good luck!
