LOST news/discussion

Vicky,

When I run or ride my bike, I often come across them filming scenes. From Waikiki to my neighborhood.

About 2 years ago, they had their basecamp at my daughters pre-school parking lot. I would have liked to hang out that day and see who was on set, but work called.

Often, they are either next to my work parking lot, or up the block at the territorial building. You can't miss all the production trucks.

We even go hiking out in Manoa, where a lot of the jungle scenes are shot. Saw one of the bunker door sets (Dharma) out there, and by the time we came back, it was gone.

Over at Kualoa Ranch on the windward side, they do have tours that show you where LOST and Jurrasic Park(s) were shot.

Wasn't that first episode so damn confusing? Where in time is the island? Flash backs, flash forwards. Crazy!

Okay, here's some low down on where the scenes for tonight's episode were shot.

The jungle scenes are near Manoa Falls.

The university where Desmond was wandering around, is St. Andrews Priory Girls School. I drive home past there every day. It also served as the monastery that Desmond was going to be a monk (a few seasons ago).

The boat scene is at Ala Wai boat harbor, where I run.

The camp scenes are at Kualoa Ranch on the Windward side (same place Jurassic Park was filmed).

Now, Richard Albert (like Locke) must be a time traveler, because he does not age at all in any of the flash forward, flash back, or real time scenes.

LOL, Charles Whitmore as a "young soldier" and what 40-50 years younger?

How much weirder is this show going to get?

2/4/09 episode.

The hospital scene with Jack, Sayid, and Ben was shot just down below my house at St. Francis Hospital. The outdoor shot where they were standing by Jack's jeep is where I park when I go to my doctor's office.

The scene with Kate sitting in her car, I walk there all the time when I go to lunch.

The jungle scenes are up in Manoa Valley where I hike.

Helloooooooo, any LOSTies out there reading this?

Several episodes have past, and no one is here discussing it. Did you all give up on the show?

We need more gossip and spoiler bits Jeff :)

Ok Vicky,

Here's what I heard from a crew member.

When the show ends, Vincent (Walt's dog) will suddenly wake up, and realize it was all bad dream due to a bad meal of Kibbles and Bits before going to bed the night before. :happytv:

LOST was once again filming at the building used for Locke's funeral, yesterday.

Nice photos, Jeff! Do you live near that waterfall or something similar? I think I'd just sit at it all day....lovely daydream!

The waterfall that Jack, Hurley, and Kate were in, is Waimea Falls up on the north shore. It's a botanical garden that you can pay to visit.

Where I went catfishing yesterday, there was a tiny waterfall way up on the mountain above us. You can see it when driving over the Pali Hwy towards Kailua.

On heavy rainy days, there are several waterfalls up there.

But, the most waterfalls are along the Hana Hwy on Maui. I have lots of photos.

The street John Locke was waving at Walt on, is Bethel St. and I drive home past there every day. The steps Walt walked down is an actual pre-school. When they showed John from the front view, he was actually a block and a half further down on Merchant Street. They repaint all the window signs to make it look like another city.

Also, the cemetery where the driver was shot, is just down from my house, or around the block from my daughters school. When my dad passed away, that's where we had the service.

When John drove out of the cemetery, I also drive that road home every day. Nuuanu Avenue.

I didn't get a real good look at the intersection where the car crash was, but it looked like two blocks away from my office. They must have shot that on a weekend when there was no traffic. South Street if I had to guess.

The outdoor hospital scenes is St. Francis hospital (or HMC). Just below our house.

The indoor scenes are mainly shot at the Hawaii Film Studio which is the back end of Diamond Head Crater. On Sunday's when I run by there, you can see all the vehicles they use in the show. Hurley's blue Dharma Volkswagon van, the police cars, the military trucks.

The room that John was going to hang himself in, is a building right next to my work parking lot. I see them filming there all the time. And a guy I run with, lives in the building next to this building, so he confirms they often shoot there.

Back from the local wine bar, with Marcia and running friends of mine. Sampled some good wines, and good pupus.

Then, I took Marcia on a short tour of downtown LOST filming locations. O'Tools bar http://www.lostvirtualtour.com/lost/filming_locations/otooles/index.html, and Murphy's bar, and several locations like the mortuary for Locke, the Seminary for Desmond (also Oxford University), the school Walt attends, the hospital where Jack, Ben, and Sayid were in the parking lot, and a few outdoor scenery shots made to look like London or Australia.

McCain Auctions that we drove by last night, that was used for the travel agency that Locke was trying to get to Australia.

Also used for the jewelry store where Desmond was trying to buy Penny an engagement ring, from Eloise Hawking (Daniel Faraday's mother).

St. Andrew's Priory, used for Desmond's monastery, and also for Oxford University.

Mortuary for Locke (very close to my house).

This Saturday, I plan to take Marcia driving around the island for more locations.

Will likely show her the Hawaii Film Studio behind Diamond Head. Sometimes when I run past there, I see all the cars used in scenes. For instance the blue Dharma Volkswagon van that Hurley & Charlie drove (also Ben and his father). The police cars, the Army vehicles, etc.

If the weather is good, we may head to the North Shore so I can show her the beaches, where the plane first crashed, and also the beach where the survivors live.

I will also try to stop by Manoa, where the Dharma locations are shot in the jungle (where Sun and Juliet went to do the sonogram for the baby). Near there is Paradise Park, where Locke, Kate, & Sawyer were locked up in the giant cages. The park is no longer open to the public.

Kualoa Ranch is often used for outdoor shots, but they charge big bucks for their tour. Same scenery for the Jurassic Park movies.

We'll see where the adventure takes us.

What did everyone think of the episode last night? I thought it was a little boring but did like Miles when he complained about Sawyer and the group's only plan - going back to the beach, the Orchid and then back to the beach!

Jeff - Cool link! It's neat to see "before" and "after" pictures.

I missed this one :) But speaking of Vincent... what ever happened to him? I don't think I've seen him since the island moved.

I haven't watched last night's episode, as we were doing the LOST tour downtown. Tonight when I get home from my run.

Vincent is off making babies with the polar bears. :happytv:

Did you know Vincent is played by a female dog?

Madison, the 5-year-old female Labrador retriever who plays Walt's dog, Vincent, was originally trained as a tracking dog and obedience competitor. In 2001 she was ranked eighth among the best obedience dogs in Hawaii. "Lost" is Madison's first acting gig, and was cast after spending just 10 minutes with series creator J.J. Abrams.
The Lab works only about one day each week. Her trainer is Kim Stahl.

Mmmm burgers... come on Jeff! We need a photo report :)

I took these pictures today during my run through part of Waikiki. I know many other locations, but I just need to remember to carry my camera with me.

My friend said his condo in Chinatown just was used for a location shoot last Friday night, for an upcoming episode with Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking. It's at night, and supposed to be a hospital parking lot.

This is the Hawaii Prince Hotel, which has been used in a few episodes. Like where Sun's other Korean boyfriend plunged to his death.

This is the corner where Ben recently was on a pay phone, and his face was all beaten up. No actual pay phone there, it was a prop.

This is the Ilikai Hotel, used in several shows. (Also used in Hawaii Five-O, and Magnum P.I.).

This is the spot where Desmond and Penny took a fake photo while in London, that was supposed to look like they were in Australia. It's the same Hawaii Prince Hotel in the background.

100_2041.jpg

This is the Ala Wai Canal Bridge, used in several scenes.

This also is the Ala Wai Canal, used when Sun was walking her dog.

100_2063.jpg

This is inside the Hawaii Convention Center, which was in the very first episode. It was made up to look like an airport, and Oceanic Airline counters were where Jack, Jin & Sun, and Hurley were all checking in.

100_2068.jpg

This is the Waikiki Yacht club, where recently Sun was pointing a gun at Ben, threatening to kill him. Kate, Jack, Sayid, and Desmond were all there as well. In the show, it's made to look like Long Beach Harbor.

What's really funny about the day they filmed the episode. There were about 30 production trucks, 100 crew members. They set up all day, filmed in the evening. And the scene lasted about 90 seconds on the screen. What a waste of time and money!!!

We will be touring more sights in the next few days, so stay tuned for more reports.
