We don't see Jacob touching Sayid or Hurley until after the flight. So I don't understand how their lives could be different in the sideways flash if Jacob had no influence on their lives. Am I missing something?
See, I'm not viewing the sideways flashes as being related to Jacob - the sideways flashes are how their lives would be if Oceanic 815 never crashed in the first place. Juliet detonated the bomb back in 1977 which changed the past from 1977 on. That's why things are different - the plane never crashed, Desmond was now on Oceanic 815, Hurley is now the luckiest person, etc.
Jacob touching the Losties will probably play a part of the "other" timeline, the one that's taking place on the island. Either Jacob touched them to claim them for "his" side in the war with Smokey/MIB, or (my theory) Jacob touched them and transferred some of his power to each of them, which is why it was so important for all of them to be together in the temple - to harness Jacob's power.
Yes, I can see your point - Jacob touched Kate when she was little, which was prob. before the bomb detonated in 1977. But I don't think Jacob's touch will play a role in that sideways timeline.
Then again, I could be totally wrong; that's happened before with this show!![]()
Thanks for your view. That makes sense.
I don't get how their lives are different before the crash if the crash never happens. What makes Hurley lucky in this timeline? Before the original crash he wasn't lucky. What changed? The plane crashing shouldn't have an effect on that, right?
Everything just creates more and more questions!
I have noticed a lot of things that are different before the plane crash in the new parallel reality.
Thanks for your view. That makes sense.

It doesn't make sense to me why. Guess they will explain eventually. At least I sure hope so!
Hurley's is the only story where I get this. Remember that he won the lottery playing the island's numbers, that the guy in the mental institution repeated over and over after hearing them from his military(?) post nearby. No island, no numbers broadcast, no crazy guy repeating them over and over for Hurley to pick up and use to play the lotto. Somehow, he still won, but it wasn't with the unlucky numbers. Thanks for your view. That makes sense.

The rest, I hope we find out!
Which really conflicts with the orginal reason he was in Australia. Why was he there this time do you suppose if that is the case? It's a good thing I enjoy a good mind bender, or this show would drive me off the deep end!
The only thing that bothered me about the whole episode is when did Jack finally get some faith? Last time we saw him, he was smashing the lighthouse being all douchey and suddenly he's the strong faithful character we all want him to be? I just think it needed another scene or 2 with him coming to that realization.
Epiphany while staring at the ocean?![]()
