I posted this right after Locke's episode, and I still believe it to be true. I don't believe the transmission was real, and I do believe it was there to keep him from either hearing Locke or to distract him so he wouldn't get out of the plane. Also, after someone on another board suggested that the voice on the other end of the transmission sounded like Boone I went back and rewatched it. It does sound a lot like Boone. I think it all happened to ensure the death.

On another board there is talk that the plane travelled forward or backwards in time and that Boone is hearing himself in the future/past on the radio transmission. This time travel thing was suggested because of the book Sawyer was reading - I think it was A Wrinkle in Time?

I think Sawyer's books are just a little nod to great fiction. He also read Watership Down.

yet another flashback to an ODD stephan king story (that was turned into a horrible made for TV movie with that guy from The Walton's...heheh)

The Langoliers.

*munch munch munch*

One thing that should be kept in mind is that the writers are free to change things whenever they like. The Internet is so rampant with rumors and such that maybe they steered away from making the death "less obvious". Everyone already knew someone was going to die - so why not make it obvious.

Don't I remember everyone saying that Claire would not have the baby until the season finale? Well, last night clearly wasn't the season finale and she had the baby. So I think the writers might be trying to stay one step ahead of the rumor mill - or are putting false info out there to try to keep everyone guessing.

It's what I would do if I was writing for a hit show.

I wonder if that's what they meant by saying the WE hold the key to Locke's future.

About the light going on in the hatch, although I was asleep for most of the episode that night I did see that part and I am pretty sure that it was still daylight out. The baby and Boone both happened at night. If Jack had know what happened to Boone he might have been better able to help him. A crush injury, which is what was wrong with his leg, would have been treated differently than a broken leg from a fall. If he had know the truth he could have amputated the leg earlier and saved Boone. It doesn't seem like he has a scalpel so he couldn't operate but he did have a way to sew him up if he had cut off his leg.

When they showed the scene with Locke getting shot we don't actually see who does it, it could be anyone. As for the Marshall I think Jack may have smothered him because we only heard the gun go off when Sawyer was in the tent.

Just my thoughts...
Of course the writers are free to change anything at anytime. The cost of shooting in Hawaii is really expensive so I think they would have to be very adamant about something being changed before they would re-shoot a scene. I'm sure they also shoot multiple scenes in some cases.
As far as the death being obvious, I'm still going to say that I think there will be more about this death in the future.

Concerning the spoiler about Claire having her baby and the death occuring in the finale, I think that was a case of the spoiler source being wrong on the timing. Kristen from E! backtracked on that spoiler almost immediately after she posted it (by immediately I mean her next chat/column).

I totally agree with you about some false info being out there, and sometimes not really false, just misleading. I hope JJ Abrams isn't messing with us when he talks about something really mind boggling in the season finale.

*Snip* from that article:

From the very beginning, Lost cocreators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof have said the threat of death hangs over the crash survivors. As the writers mapped out the season's final episodes, they followed through on that threat, deciding to kill a character whose story line had run its course. Another reason: Boone's death would especially affect his father figure, Locke (Terry O'Quinn), and the island's doctor and resident hero, Jack (Fox). ''It was a narrative imperative that we kill Boone,'' says executive producer Carlton Cuse. ''It sets in motion a chain of events leading to the season finale.'' Adds Lindelof: ''The show is about the conflict between Jack and Locke. Boone's death will be a divisive point between them.''

OK, I think this is very interesting and very telling. I'll admit, I have never felt the show was about the conflict between Jack and Locke. I haven't really thought too much about the very little conflict between them so far.

And "setting in motion a chain of events leading to the season finale" - ok so Boone's death wasn't overly dramatic but will lead to something very dramatic and "mind boggling".

The rest of what I'd like to say involves a spoiler so I'm moving this conversation over to the other thread.

My theories are all out of whack now. I need to think about this crazy show.

SillyMe, I LOVE your posts no matter what you say. That picture.... :lovestruc

I dont think that they'd kill off Locke,he's one of the main characters...
But that could be the mindboggling thing. But if they did,I KNOW there would be alot of P.O.ed people!

Me for one!! I have to say that I was a little disappointed that there was no mention of Locke and his trip back to the hatch last night. I SO want to know what's inside!

Boone, or the actor who plays him, was on Regis and Kelly today and he said to not miss the 2 hour finale. He didn't say way but the look on his face made me think that he will be in the finale. He also said we would get a look at the monster or whatever it is that's on the island.

If anyone could check again - I think when the light came on it was night time.

Me too!! Oh well...guess we will just have to wait...Wednesday feels so far away!!

Since we don't know what happened to Jack's wife and Jack seems to be so sure that Locke murderedBoone.. do you think that maybe Jack's wife was murdered after they were married?

Plus another connection - Boone ran a Bridal emporium for his Mom.. would that be where Jack's bride got her dress from?? (everyone is connected somehow they say!)

Here is a veryyy longshot of a theory. We have seen that there is a lot of references to some great literature.. whether it is Sawyer reading books or storylines that have hints of things that happened in other books. What if this whole story about plane crash survivors, crazy things happening on a possessed island, etc. is the work in progress of a novelist and we are just watching it being played out in his mind as he writes his book. And the novelist is Rose's husband. After all.. she is sure he is just fine. (cue creepy music.. doo do do do doo do do do..)
