Ok, help!!!
DH is leaving this up to me, kinda... since I play with it the most!
We have had a Nikon CoolPix 880 and just lost the Nikon CoolPix 4300 a week ago at Disneyland, 2 days befor DD grad from university.

Now we are looking for a new camera. I went on line at dpreview.com and looked, then to Best Buy, Circuit City and Ritz Camera... This morning I found the Canon D50 , SLR digital with acc at Ritz for $349.99, and didn't get it!!! I guess it was a computer special or mistake causes it is more now!

I have an old Canon AE 1 with a Micro/300 Tell. lens that I used a lot till 4-5 years ago then I got the first digital. And I have twin body OM 2 s with all the lens that my dad left me... but I never use them...

So I have a few problems, and questions..

I tend to do a lot of macro and landscape shots on the fly. And I know the smaller the camera the more I will use it. But I also do a lot of shots at quilt shows and want to do more on our WDW trips... So I am thinking a small one now and a Digital SLR for Christmas.. .

I had several of the sales people at the 3 stores we went to sugest the Canon PowerShot A540 or the Canon PowerShot SD450.
I like them both, but was thinking of getting the max pix. I could for around $400- $500.... The SD450 I find intriueing as it is so small, I know I would take it every where. And I did like the A540 also...
What other Cameras by different makers might any of you have that compare with this? I tried using the compare guide for a few hours, but don't have any idea what to look for unless I go to each company web site, and I don't have enought time to do this in the next day or 2 befor I buy one!!

Also while I like the idea of a local shop selling it to me, the only one is Ritz Camera. Dell has both cameras on the web site for 20% less then Ritz, but not sure if that would be good if I have a problem...

And I have seen some posts on the DIS that were discount codes for ? places...

HELP !!!! ASAP!!!

Totally lost and confused! But that is a natural state for me lately!

Thanks folks!

The Panasonic TZ1 is my new one. Just got it and haven't put it through all its paces but am satisfied with it. It is 5MP, 10x (zoom 35-350mm), 12x if you reduce it to 3MP. and fits in pockets. Here is a site to see a video of it. There is sound. It list for 350.00,got mine at Circuit City for 323.00 However have heard it can be bought for under 300.00.

I know what you mean about being confused. There are a lot of good cameras to choose from.

PS: If you used to have Canon AE1, I'm sure you already have the lenses. Use that lens on a Canon dSLR body. Why change brand and then you'll have to change all the lenses you already have?

I though that I could use my old Canon lens, but was told that since the new camera and lens are motorized and the old one isn't I can't use the old lens! So drat. But nice to know great minds think alike!
So we are getting about $250 toward our new camera... and at this point I think I am going to go with a point and click... just not sure which one!

If you can add a little bit you can go with a Canon S2 IS. Or if you're strapped, Canon A620 should fit the budget.

we tried the canon 600 and it was too slow. Exchanged it for the S2 for only $33 more!
