Losing Weight for my Master's & Beating Diabetes-Comments welcome and appreciated

Those are all great points Kar. I actually use the WW three month journal they sell. I love it because it has a place to put measurements and sizes, as well as a place to graph weight loss.

I was bad and didn't weigh in this week because my roommate and I made plans. I also haven't gotten back to counting, but I figure this week is weird anyway. Tomorrow I have knee surgery at 1, and I can't eat anything after midnight, so at the very least I'm missing breakfast and lunch, and I'm not sure how to count a day like that. I'm going to plan my Thursday out and start counting again Thursday. I may go to a WW meeting tomorrow if I can swing it, but not WI. Just going to the meeting will help me get back on track.

Ahhh...Jessi, good luck with your surgery!!! :goodvibes Let us know how it goes, ok!

Ugh, I leave in just over a couple of hours for the hospital, and I am starving! At this point, I'm too hungry to be nervous. My roommate is being an angel and is skipping the second half of her Korean Math workshop today to take me, so I might see if she'll let me treat her to a nice restaurant on the way back. At this point I just want it to be over so I can eat something!

Joanna: I get my master's next May! I would love to move to Florida, but the charter school system I want to teach for currently has no schools in Florida. If they get a KIPP school I will seriously consider it.

That would be awsome!

I hope the surgery went well!

Everything went well. The worst part is not being able to drive for the next three days (theoretically.) Today was because of the anesthesia, the next two days is because of the pain pills, but honestly, I feel fine to drive. It's goign to take all my self control not to.

I actually took a cab to dinner, which was an experience. This is a small town (about 17,000 people when the university is in session). The cab, which is driven by a nice old man, is and 88 Olds Mobile that smells like stale cigarettes. :rotfl: I ended up walking a few blocks from the restaurant to a gas station to get ice for this fancy pantsy machine they gave me and then had him pick me up from there. I'll be so glad when it is finally healed and I can go back to doing more intense exercises than walking my two monkeys.

Good to hear everything went well, Jessi!! :thumbsup2

Just take it slow now post surgery so you do not injure anything!!! Slow but sure wins the race. Take those three days, relax, heal and plan for a new start with the diet on Monday!!! :goodvibes

Keep us updated!!! :surfweb:

I've decided that Vicodin sucks. It's making me really queasy. Of course, if I'm too queasy to eat I'll lose weight, right? I think tomorrow I'm switching to Advil.

My DS' DF was in an accident last year. She was thrown from a horse and he proceeded to stomp on her hand as he ran away and crushed the bones in her hand. It was truly a horrific time for my family as we watched the entire accident right in front of our eyes..........anyway a year later she is doing wonderfully. She was put on Vicodin for the pain. It made her so sick BUT all the MD's at Mass General in Boston wanted her ON those pain pills.....we discovered that if Diana took one PEPCID AC before her Vicodin, she felt fine and it took all the queasiness away......just a suggestion.

Hang in there!!!

Glad to hear it went well Jessi!!:)

Jessi,

So glad the surgery went well. I hate vicodin too! It also makes me feel just yucky. Hope the advil will do the trick and you can forgo the other!

Can I just say how incredible you and your dad are to donate your hair like that? You are amazing, its people like you that make the world such a better place.

Love the picture of you in your Eeyore shirt!

Thanks Amy! I actually didn't take anything on Thursday, and even spent the day walking around town on crutches. Yesterday and today I have been resorting to a little Advil. I did take the dogs on a short walk today, using one crutch. I also got to finally take off the bandage, and now my knee is a bit sore. They gave me a machine called Game Ready. You fill it with ice and water and it circulates cold water through a sleeve, and also does cycles of pressure. It's not too bad, but I'm not so sure it isn't contributing to some of the soreness tonight. I was supposed to start physical therapy yesterday but they couldn't get me in til Wednesday, so I guess I have to wait to find out what kind of exercises I can do.

I admit that I haven't been counting points, so I'm a little scared for WI on Tuesday. Oh well, I'll get back on track this week (I feel like a broken record).

:rotfl: I am the same way! I definitely will be getting back into the swing of things next week, when I return to NJ.

And good luck with PT!:thumbsup2

Glad I'm not the only one Joanna! I can't believe you're heading back to NJ already. This summer flew by!

Well...

No more crutches, ace bandags, or stitches :cool1: ! The doctor did make a comment about how late I am starting PT, but I explained that it was the earliest they could see me, so hopefully it won't be a problem. He said at the moment I need to just try to keep bending and straightening my knee, and it is already feeling a little looser. I did get a kick out of when he told me to avoid stairs and hills. I wanted to ask him if he has seen where I live. I am in a second floor apartment (no elevator) and have to climb a flight of stairs just to get from the parking lot to the front door, so obviously there's no avoidance.

I did take my crew on a short (half hour) walk today around the Grim neighborhood. It was not the most graceful walk in the world, but hey, I did something. Tomorrow it is back on track counting points and hopefully a slightly longer walk with the boys. I go in early tomorrow to help my mentor teacher set up her classroom for the semester, it'll be good to get back on some kind of schedule.

Now it's off to bed with the boys and back on track tomorrow. I plan to not only weigh in but actually stick around for the meeting, something I haven't done in a long time. Hopefully it will help me stay on track.

That is great news that you are walking without crutches! How did weigh in go? I haven't been too disciplined with counting points myself lately!:rolleyes1

I went to take a nap with every intention of waking up for WI and... well, I'm sure you can guess what happened! I have been having a wicked fight with my insurance company over the physical therapy.

I had my evaluation on Wednesday and was told that I have a tibial rotation related to my dancing and performing, and that it is classic plica syndrome. The therapist expressed shock that the Orlando doctor did not recognize it. He said one of the things they want to do is work on my funky dancer's alignment or I will be in the same situation on the other side and will have more problems with my knees and hips down the road. I get my schedule, get some exercises, life is good.

Yesterday I got a call stating that my insurance was denied. Apparently the PPO is accepted but not the HMO. They used to take the HMO and thought they still did, so now I owe them $300+ for the evaluation. The nearest place my insurance covers is 35 miles down the highway (a 45 minute drive due to all the construction) and I am a grad student. I teach seventh grade special ed from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm and then have class until 2:45. A forty five minute drive is really not that feasible, especially with gas prices. It sucks because I can literally walk (if I wanted to) to the other place.

I spent all day on the phone with the insurance company, the people I talked to were super nice but not the ones that could change it. They seemed to think it would be no problem getting it changed if I had the physical therapy place call the medical management office, but they were denied. They tried twice. My doctor's office was supposed to call today (again, indicated that it would be approved if they explained the situation) but they didn't get around to it so I had to cancel my appointment today. The therapist was super nice and gave me a home regimine free of charge so that the delay in therapy doesn't have an adverse effect on my knee.

So, Monday I should know one way or the other. I do have an appointment for the other place on Monday just in case. Sadly, they have to do their own evaluation which just delays things further. I hate dealing with insurance.

Thanks for letting me vent! I just had my first day teacher day at the school (all day in meetings). Next week I am at the school all day and then Wednesday is our first student day! :cheer2: This is also move in week from campus freshman and I am trying to help out with all the freshman activities for our Catholic Newman Center. Our center was destroyed by a fire last year and the new building is almost done. Since I can't haul things (yay for not having to do move in crew!) I am giving tours on Sunday of the new building. Throughout the week we have activities for the freshman. I think I am going to skip the dinner portion since I know that I will not stay on track and just attend the after dinner activities.

It has been way too long since I updated. I still have not been good about counting points, but I have lost .6 in the last few weeks, so at least it's heading in the right direction! This is the second week in a row that I stayed for the meeting, and I picked up some quick and easy healthy(er) options to keep in the classroom for breakfast and lunch. I have our meeting's travelling journal, so I'm hoping that that will motivate me. Everybody who has used it has lost, and it's on the last week, so I will benefit from everybody else's experience!

That's great to hear about losing (after all, every little bit helps). I can't wait for the first meeting of the semester. I'm kinda afraid to hear how I did over the summer. :scared:
