Mostly you gotta know what you are putting in your body at all times and find a perfect balance of cardio, weigh training and most importantly what garbage you are throwing in your body.

I agree. TIme is the killer though. Finding time to plan the meals and fit in the exercise. So much to do but when you think about your health, you have to make time. I'm at least starting with the what and how much I eat. It's amazing when you see what a "real" portion size is compared to what we actually eat. I also find I can't keep certain foods in the house. My husband can eat anything he wants so I make sure I get snacks he likes that I don't. Can't eat it if it's not here. As for salad dressings (for me maple syrup for breakfast foods.) a WW trick I learned is dipping your fork into the dressing then into the salad. That way you don't drown it. I found with syrup that when I stopped drowning (and, to be honest, wasting since a lot of it stayed on the plate.) I could appreciate the rest of the food better. Now I just need to get more exercise in.

Speaking of Photopass photographers ....

We went to Typhoon Lagoon last week (my first time) and I was shocked to see a photopass photographer stationed right in the middle of the lazy river! Yup, there she was waist deep in water wearing the usual vest and khaki shorts as hundreds of people in bathing suits floated by on tubes! Struck me funny, just had to share. :rotfl::rotfl:

THIS IS THE BIGGEST JOKE IN MY HOUSE!!! My DD11.. is on swim team, and has actually done very well... wants to be an olympic athelete someday... (shes good.. but probably not that good)... IN ANYCASE... I told her incase she doesn't make the olympics ;) what are you going to do.. so she has it all figure out... she says, well, then Mom, I'll just work as a life guard at the Typhoon Lagoon Wave pool... and I said well what happens when they close for renovations? She says, well then I'd like to be a park photographer.... so my other DD chimes in and says well why don't you just be one of those photographers in the lazy river!... kill 2 birds with one stone... so now she tells everyone that is her dream job.... (I guess I can save on sending her to college... :lmao:

well.... I am thinking photopass photographers in my head.... I went to a minor league ball game last night... and passed ALL of the food stands... they were calling me.. but I ignored them... I just have to keep doing that... :cool1: walk right past them.. I did cheat on my Wii Active last night... I went into the work out, and crossed off 1/2 of the exercises... (partly because I was tired.. and partly because I didn't feel like doing those stupid kick ups on the track).. I know I didn't get enough out of the work out..I didn't even break a sweat.. I'll try tonight... I'm hoping for 10 more pounds in 2 months...

Still hanging in there. Probably not as "good" as I could be but certainly being better on getting in my water and fruits/veggies. Also eating better protion sizes an types of foods. First new weigh in on Tues. Keep your fingers crossed.Need to make sure I don't buy anymore chips ahoys for hubby-too tempting!!!But I did account for them through WW. Just need to be super good the rest of the week.

In January 08 my wife who is 5'6" went from 200lbs to the 140s in August 08 for our last disney vacation. She's now in the low 130s and just ran a half marathon 2 months ago. Weight loss is hard. Mostly you gotta know what you are putting in your body at all times and find a perfect balance of cardio, weigh training and most importantly what garbage you are throwing in your body. Generally look at what you are eating, Calories, sugars, etc. Find stuff low in salt, remember just because it's salad doesn't mean that you can dump a load of dressing on it, read the bottles of salad dressing, it's not really that good for you. Ask and figure out how restaurants are cooking your food, chances are that if you order something that is cooked it oil, it's not going to be good for ya. Try to do cardio 5 days a week for 1 to 2 hours. My wife's biggest issue was eating the kids food because she didnt want it to goto waste and finding the time to get a workout in when the kids demand time with you to play. Remember to always push yourself, not just for the trip to disney but for your own health. Stay positive and try never to snack unless it's on some fruit.

I don't think I've ever read anything like that before that just made me think "WOW" I find this to be incredibly encourageing and very smart words. Thank you, Dave! :worship:

wow. Very encouraging.. and I agree that it's more than just trying to exercise.. it's the whole package... I am going to re-read your post often as a reminder!

Has anyone seen our OP, LisaB on here lately? I just looked back and it seems she hasn't posted here since 6/11. Hope everything is okay!

Also, KidaniMom hasn't been around in a while either. Hoping she'll check back and let us know how her vacation went.

:confused3

I was just wondering where LisaB is. I'm with you hoping everything is okay with those we haven't heard from in awhile.

Hi all. I am new to the thread. I started watching what I was eating about 2 months ago after I visited my doctor and was told that the blood pressure medication I was already on was not doing the trick and that he wanted to add another medication. YIKES! I guess that was my wake up call (sort of). Ever since having my son in 2003, I have been on blood pressure medication. Now they want to add another? I must do something about this, NOW. So I started researching different ideas on weight loss. I have been overweight all of my life and am convinced I never knew how to eat right. I took a whole food approach to weight loss. Trying to stay away from processed foods. I have kicked the soda habit as well. I started off strong, watching every morsel I put in my mouth but we all know that is short lived. I have decided to make a lifestyle change and not watch every bite but try to make healthly choices. When I make bad choices I am forgiving myself and moving on. I have not been on the scale since the doctor's visit but I did go shopping (my favorite benefit of losing weight) and can now buy clothes 2 sizes smaller. Something I am doing is working!!!!:banana: I do not plan to get on the scale until my next doctors appointment, in September. I want to be as surprised as my doctor is when he sees how much I have lost!

Thanks for all of the inspiration on this thread! I am subscribing right now!

:welcome:I really admire you for not getting on the scale, I think that's alot better than I do, I scale watch too much & wind up getting discouraged when it doesn't move.:headache:

Keep up the good work, it sounds like you're on the right path. :goodvibes

Hi Dis! Welcome to the thread! Buying smaller clothes sure is a great incentive huh? Keep it up!!:banana::banana:

Thanks! It is what works for me. I think for me it is more about the final result than the ups and downs to get there! I don't want to watch the scale and get discouraged and fall off the bandwagon. :goodvibes

The best incentive I can think of! :rotfl:

HI all!
I haven't been on in awhile. I have been busy at work and on the weekends we have been staying at our camp on the water.
Just wanted to say hello to all!

I started a new 30 day challenge yesterday and increased the intensity to high. I'm really hoping to get rid of 10 lbs in 9 weeks. Good luck to everyone this week. We can do it.

Thanks for checking in. Hope you're having a great summer! :)

I do, too... although I now don't allow myself on during "that time of the month" -- too depressing ;) -- and as I work nights as an RN, I also don't get on after I get up the next day, as my weight is all unsettled from being up all night and sleeping part of the day.

The hardest time for me is at work -- your body wants carbs to get through the nights, and not healthy ones, but pb&j, subs, pizza, chocolate... you get the idea! But once I've broken the habit for a few nights, I'm better... now I bring salads or order lettuce wraps, sometimes chicken salad or tuna, and lots of healthy snacks like fruit or sfJello or yogurt.

I'm almost to the one week mark since I posted... I've lost 2.5 lbs. since I started a week and a half ago, so we'll see where I'm at Wednesday!

Thanks for all the encouraging posts!!

Wow... it sounds like everyone is so motivated!!! I look forward to reading the posts and see how everyone is doing. It's encouraging just to see other people are making it work.. and if you fall off the "wagon" for a day or so, it's really not the end of the world, and not to just give up.. that's why I keep checking back on this thread. Afterall... it's for Mickey.. and for ourselves.. plus, as one of the PP's mentioned... better health is just an added bonus... I avoid the scale at all costs... I never feel like checking everyday would be much help... That's just me.. some people it works... I also will be enjoying the look on my doctor's face next time I get weighed at his office for my yearly exam. I am just looking forward to going out to buy a few new outfits before my trip... and hopefully a smaller size. :goodvibes Oh.. and tonight I will complete the first 30 day challenge on Wii Active.... YEAH.... now what?? I guess we just start again? Does it know you finished it, and keeps going, or does it start all over again?

I too haven't been on in a long time and miss Lisa B.

I enjoyed my May trip but needless to say, didn't lose my weight for that one!:lmao:So I Have another one planned! I joined WW again. If they gave a medal for the number of times someone joined, I would surely get it!:thumbsup2 Now, if i could just get the weight off. For those of you that don't recall (since I haven't been around in so long), I have some health issues that prevent me from using the exercise tools that many of you use (bad back that surgery didn't correct, knee problems, hip problems, nerve problems in my leg, you name it). I use pain medication to get me through the day. Walking, standing or sitting makes the pain worse.
Nevertheless, I am tired of being fat!
So, here I go again.

Is there somewhere in your area you could do water aerobics? It really works you out, but is gentler on your joints. Welcome back and good luck.

Funny you ask!:lmao: i pay a monthly membership to the ymca and was going to water aerobics and loving it but had a couple of bad experiences with leaders that only wanted to do deepend (I can't swim) and that was really hard on my back so I quit going.

What I like about this page is the motivation and encouragement I get from you guys and gals. That's why i keep coming back. I weigh less this time than when I first joined up way back when. I wore a dress yesterday that i bought ten years ago at the beach and it was too big! Several years ago, i could never had said that because it would not have fit. i just need to rember that this is not a sprint, it is a marathon. I will finish my race, just not tomorrow! and all of you will help me get there!
