My trip is 11 months away...I am a Pooh shaped girl looking forward to the trip but wanting to make some changes to enjoy it more. The weight has crept up the past few years. I was reading about the people wearing pedometers and walking an average of 10 miles a day at Disney. I need to to get ready for this, I want to go to the water park and feel comfortable walking in a modest bathing suit. Who is with me? I know I need to start slow but I am ready for some changes!

We walked 11 miles the first day while the other days were closer to 9/10. We went in July and starting April 1 we began our training walks. My two 13 year olds initially gave me some resistance (the last time we went we did training walks too but they were 4 and gave no feedback). They didn't understand why we were needing to walk months in advance for a trip we were just going to spend waiting in line. It did not take long for the kids to get into it, we got another neighbor to walk with us (and sometimes another one too) and it really turned into a pleasurable time. We typically walked about 5 miles a day so definitely not close to the Disney total but it was enough to make it so they didn't complain and since Disney is not consistent walking I think it did the trick. Our schedule really didn't allow for more time than the 5 miles but it was better than nothing. I am Pooh sized and I noticed a tiny change in how my clothes fit but really it was just to get used to the walking and also to do some test runs on shoes. Ultimately I ended up just wearing my Teva flip flops I have owned for years even though I tried other things like Dawg sandals and Croc flip flops. Nothing was more comfortable than my flip flops on our training walks so I went with those on the trip and they worked perfectly! Good luck in your training! We soon found the walking became part of our routine and automatic. The question became where are we going to walk tonight Mom? as opposed to why do we have to walk Mom?

I have been walking for weight loss. I read that you should walk/run 3 miles every day. I have to say that two things motivate me because I have no one to do it with. My Fitbit because I can see how much I have walked all day. And my Fitbit is connected to my Balance Rewards with Walgreens. The more I walk the more free money Walgreens gives me.

I didn't know that about Walgreens, good to know! Thanks. Looking forward to getting motivated, more mobile and maybe losing some weight!

Go for it! I was quite out of shape and finally decided to join a gym and just GO! After a year of not really changing my diet (I watch what I eat, but I don't completely deny myself treats!), but consistently walking/running, weight training and doing zumba, I lost weight and am in really good shape!! Prior to that, I was a yo-yo dieter and would think I completely failed if I had a snack or dessert. I would get so down on myself. This year really proved to me that if I just kept moving, change would happen and it did!! So, go for it!! You can do it! Just keep moving and have fun! Find an exercise you love ( I love zumba!!) and it makes a big difference.
