LOS passes vs UPH

We are planning a family trip for June 2004 and everyone keeps asking me "How much is this gonna cost?" We just joined DVC and I have a couple of questions about park admission. For our visit this past June we booked a package through Disney Travel so we had UPH's and the actual cost was kinda buried in the package price.

1) What is the difference between LOS and UPH? For example, we would probably need 8 day/7 night or 7 day/6 night hoppers so which(LOS or UPH) would work better for us?

2) What would you estimate the cost to be for the LOS passes?

In other words, how much would you tell your family to budget for park admission?

UPH is the current name of what was once called LOS. They are one and the same.
