How strict are they with bringing loose articles such as fanny packs, cross body handbags, or backpacks on thrill rides like dinosaur, everest, mine train, space mountain, tower of terror, etc.??

You can carry nearly all items with you on just about all the attractions.

Space Mountain, Kali River and Soarin' can be exceptions, but the CMs at the attractions can help you
with what to do with your item(s.) Just ask.

Fairly lenient.

My wife was asked to stow her purse in a locker on nearly every ride at Universal. She was never asked at Disney.

You have to bring everything with you. There is no place to leave anything. Many rides have a small pouch for little items and then you put a larger bag at your feet. The only exception is Kali, oh and balloons. Balloons can't go on rides.

They asked 2 of my kids to take off their "backpacks" (their camelbaks) on the Mine ride and put it by their feet.

Even on roller coasters or ToT you can put a backpack on the floor and hook your leg through the strap to keep it with you.

Small loose items will take a different trip on roller coasters and ToT if you don't hold on to them!

And be aware that large items have no place to go on Kali so they may, er, will, get soaked.

I had no issues with my purse or backpack on rides, and I rode ALL of the thrill rides multiple times. Just put the backpack at my feet and left my purse across my body but usually on top of the restraint. No issues at all (except on 7DMT where there wasn't really room at my feet for the backpack- good thing my kids had plenty of room!).

My husband and I carry a bag of different sizes on all Disney attractions. His is a daybag on his back and lopped on his shoulders. Mine has been a waist pack, a back pack, a shoulder bag, and a cross body bag (not all at once!). We just took them on the attractions and they were all fine.

The only time we've ever lost some on an attraction was when my husband (on a solo trip) didn't take off his hat on Splash Mountain on a windy day.

Oh - and for hats - that's simple - put them on the seat and then sit on them. Easy.

Did they re-do the rafts on Kali? I know they added free lockers just outside, but I didn't know they did away with the center storage.

They still have the center storage....it isn't guaranteed to keep your stuff dry, though.

I've taken a backpack on everything at WDW except 7DMT (haven't ridden it yet) and Kali (left the backpack in a locker). I crammed it into the under-seat storage on Soarin' :lmao:

I've also taken a crossbody purse on most of the rides.

Sure, but the question was what rides allow you to take a bag on. And Kali does.

I've always just kept a zip loc bag in my backpack to put my camera/phone (etc.) into before I get on Kali.

I don't think there's any ride I haven't taken a backpack on, but I haven't ridden RnRC, ToT, or M:S.

The only loose-item problem I've ever seen was when my friend's sunglasses few off his face on Space Mountain. The good news is, they fell right down into his sled. The bad news is, he didn't realize that at the time and stepped on them getting out.

I sometimes use a glasses strap, since my peculiar head seems to be hard to fit with glasses hat stay on tightly without hurting the backs of my ears.

There are a handful of rides at Universal that require things to be put in a locker, and of course the lockers are free for the time you are on the ride. Most rides at Universal don't require it. Must have been a thrill-ride-intensive itinerary! (plus Men In Black, which spins like crazy and therefore requires the locker as well) Hope you had fun! :)
