We are planning our first FW trip and I'd like to get your recommendations on loops. We are a 2 adult, 3 children (ages 9, 8, 2) family with a 32 ft TT with 2 slideouts, we have no pets (but wouldn't mind being in a pet friendly loop). We prefer some privacy/foliage and a paved pad. We will be renting a golf cart and will have our bikes. Looking at premium sites but flexible on this. I've watched about every You tube video/site tour out there and I want to stay in ALL the loops. My initial thoughts after what I've read/watched is loop 800. Would love to hear your thoughts/favorites. Thanks!

Also, we are flexible on when we can travel. What is your favorite month to be at the Fort and why?

Hello and welcome! I don't think you can go wrong with any TT spot. We stayed in loop 1800 last year with our RV. Very nice and peaceful and it was back by a canal. This January we are coming with two tents. I'm sure others could give you more info on best TT loops. I think it all depends on if you want to hear the boats (get something close to the beach) if not then don't! Same with being close to the movies/ sing along and 1400 is very close to the movie theater. As far as best times at the Fort...I would say mid January - mid February and the first half of November for low crowd times and for bonus entertainment value I would say Halloween. I would love to come down the week prior to Halloween and enjoy the Not So Scary party at MK and the fun that goes on at FW then add another week for some low key/ low crowd time. But that is still Harvest time for us so that will never happen.

Yeah for your first time at FW. You will love love love love it!

Both our visits we stayed in 1400. It's a premium loop and close to all the action. I recommend that loop if you spend time at the Fort doing stuff.

Your requirements make almost anywhere a great loop. The golf cart will make the most remote loops fine. Your trailer should fit fine anywhere except some of the partial/tent sites.

We all have our favorites for different reasons. I love the preferred loops (100, 200, 300) 100 is my favorite. It is very close to the Settlement and the marina where you get the boat to MK and WL and Contemporary resorts. You can walk to the Settlement bus stop to go anywhere. The boat whistles are easy to hear and the electric water parade is a fun walk to the beach.

We've also stayed in 1400. Like ilovedisney said, it is next to the Meadows with the pool, trading post and campfire/movie. It is in the middle of the campground so catching a bus to go outside the Fort is a walk, internal bus or golf cart trip to get to.

Sounds like you have a good idea what the loops are like from videos, if I had a golf cart, I'd be happy in almost any loop.

We're planning a trip down soon and would love to see pics of the campsites in different loops. I did see a thread with pics of the campground itself showing the main pools, water, beach areas, etc., but seemed not to put many pics of the loops showing what the areas and campsites look like in each loop. Would love to see pics of the campsites marked where they are, which loop and what the scenery looks like in that area. Some people like heavy forest trees, others like open areas, etc., etc. Getting excited reading all these threads on FW Campground! :goodvibes

After all my visits, I am still partial to the 300 loop for preffered and 500 for premium. But with dogs those are the two closest to the dog park. The 300 is pretty quiet even for a pet loop.

If you are planning to be here for Halloween next year it is probably already full. I made my Halloween reservations last June for Halloween 2015.
Any full hook up you can't go wrong, remember it is a request no guarantee for a loop/site request. Happy camping!

Here's a pic of site 102. One of my favorites.

Thanks, everyone, for the recommendations! I would love to be there for Halloween, but I'm definitely probably too late in the game to get a reservation.

One more question...is a golf cart really needed? Just wondering if we really need one if we have our bikes. I thought it would be great for just cruising around and checking out other loops, etc., but not so sure if the money spent is worth it just to joyride around. :) Just curious as to how much folks actually use their golf carts.

Having a cart is truly a personal preference, and not required at all for transportation, especially if you are gone most of the day. We have never had a cart, much prefer walking, or riding the internal buses.

If you have your bicycles, that is an excellent way to 'get around'. We have never brought ours.

A cart is not needed, but a convenience if ou already own one or have the budget to rent one. Otherwise, you can get around just fine with two feet and the provided transportation. Since I own a cart and have a way for it to show up with me, we bring it for the added convenience to and from the bus station, marina, run to the trading post, or the most important the laundry. Yes, I could walk to the comfort station and do other then to drop off and pick up the basket of laundry.

We really liked loop 1400 so close to the pool and movie. And i wouldn't worry about halloween if you really want it. its booked now, but people always cancel. we booked our halloween trip in july!

Do any 300 spots sit on water? Looks like there is water surrounding part of it? They told us pet spots we could get are 300 for preferred, or 400 thru 900 for premium. Any of the premium sites 400 thru 900 sit on water or have a pretty spot? Looks to me like 600 has some water spots and is close to things? What about 700, no one ever talks on here about the 700 loop and it looks to be close to Pioneer Hall. Thanks for any info. :thumbsup2

The back side of the 300 loop has a canal, but its not right on the canal maybe 50-60 feet off it. about at the halfway point is where the carriage rides come out of the back trail.

There is a canal that runs between 500 and 1400 but the water there is somewhat stagnant and the drop-off from the site is about 3-6 vertical feet in some sites. It is not an attractive arrangement IMO. 600 has the sites against the pond across from the campfire and Bike Barn but the drawback is they are relatively new sites with no shade trees. 700 has no water sites.

If you are looking for pet/water sites 600 is about it. Just bring an EZ-up canopy for extra shade than what your trailer/rv might have attached to it. 600 is Premium. 300 is Preferred but the sites nearest the canal aren't really open to the water but back through the trees (although maybe the few nearest might qualify).

So 600 is your best bet.

Wow! I posted this almost 1 year ago, and I'm happy to say I finally booked our stay at the Fort. We will be heading down from Indiana in February 2016. I still don't have a loop preference narrowed down or know whether or not we'll rent a golf cart, but I'm super excited no matter what we decide!

We have been in several of the loops but our favorites are the 1800 & 1900 loops!

We just got home yesterday after 7 nights at the Fort (our first). We took our bikes and rode everywhere. We were in loop 1500 which was very convenient for the pool and campfire/movie as well as the store. Unless we were handicapped in some way or completely averse to physical activity, I would never consider renting a golf cart. My morning bike rides and the deer, turkey, and armadillo sightings were some or the highlights of the stay.

We just got back on Sunday and we were in site 112, it was perfect. A bit of a walk to the pool, but not horrible and if you have bikes not bad at all. We LOVED the location, my youngest daughter was in heaven because there was a pretty date palm at the back of our site. She thinks the way you know your in Florida are the palm trees. I would definitely stay in the 100 look again, it was nice and quiet and very convenient to walk over to Trails End Take out for coffee in the morning and soft drinks in the afternoon. :D

The day we set up camp there were 5 turkeys in the road in front of the site, we also saw bunnies, and deer. It was really cool, I will go for a preferred site everytime now.
