Looks like we're poised for a happier, friendlier New Year.

The general rule for decluttering is:

1. Do you love it?
2. Have you used it in the past year?
3. If you didn't have it could it be easily replaced?
When you look at it this way decluttering seems so simple. Thanks for this, I will use these questions to clean out my basement.

With Nikki, Kevin/John/Kevin's Mom, and Jason and Susan getting new homes, I want to share something I always thought was a lovely wish for those with a new home:

My wish for the new homeowners:

Bread - So you never go hungry.
Wine - So your life is always sweet.
Salt - So there is always spice in your life.
And a Candle - So you always have light.

And when you have wine, invite me over to share a glass. :rotfl2:
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know where Kevin and John will buy salt. ;)

I've accumulated a lot of clutter, but I probably won't tackle it until the new year starts.

Briar, I absolutely LOVE this saying! Thank you!! :cloud9:

I always say that if I win the lottery, one of the first things I want to do is hire a professional organizer.
That would be a dream come true for me as well...

Hope the move is going as smoothly as possible for everyone.

Hi Folks!

Thanks for the good wishes.

Things are moving along. The mortgage papers are now in the hands of the bank.

In the mean time, I've been sidelined by the cold / flu/ lethal disease that everyone else seems to have.

Congratulations on the mortgage papers making their way to the bank.

Feel better soon.

Feel better, Kevin. We're just getting over it for the second time in as many months. Next year, I'm getting a flu shot.

Feel better Kevin. I have 1 word for you probiotics. When I feel a cold coming on I take one and it knocks it out before it gets started.

I swear by Zicam. Two potential nasty colds turned mild and gone in 2 days taking Zicam at the first sniffle.

Hope you get to feeling better Kevin. Congrats on the house and here is to a fantastic 2011!!

I have been down with it since Sunday evening. Was so bad the day before yesterday I spent some time at Celebration Hospital.

It really stinks being sick on vacation!

Thanks for the congrats Nicole and thanks for the advice.

I am actually really bad about throwing stuff away - not quite 'hoarders bad' but still have a tough time parting with stuff. Moving tends to force you to look at what you need and what's really important.

Happy New Year!!

I have a very hard time getting rid of things too! Even with a lot of things going to Goodwill or co-workers and friends, it's never easy. Moving helps the process, between getting aggravated while packing it and getting aggravated trying to find a place for it in the new home.

Congrats on the new home and Happy New Year! (And feel better soon Kevin!)

:rotfl2:

900sq feet to 3100 sq feet...

Our numbers rise from two to three....

And I get a walk in pantry with 5 U shaped shelves.

I know how geeky this sounds....but I dont care.:thumbsup2

Kitchen and house jealousy here! Especially the pantry... :woohoo:

(Guess I should have read all 8 pages of thread before adding my $.02! )

Congrats on the move! It sounds wonderful!! And the packing must not be too bad bc of the excitement of the new space! Please post pics of that awesome-sounding pantry!! I got my kitchen redone last January and if only they could have built me a pantry.....

Anyway, happy New Year, congrats again on the move, and feel better Kevin!!:goodvibes

(and when I first read the numbers were going from 2 to 3 I thought maybe you were adopting a baby from Namibia or something! lol):rotfl:

party: Congratulations Kevin and John on your new home! party:

However, you need another roommate to make up the "Golden Boys". Kevin, Is your Mom as feisty as Sophia????? Just kidding! I've heard she's a sweetheart. :flower3:

This is exciting news! I have to say, I am VERY envious of your pantry. I have tried in my mind and on paper, figure out how to get a bigger pantry in our kitchen. It just isn't possible. :guilty: I guess for now, I have to live vicariously through you. ;)

I wish you many happy memories in your new home.

The quote Lori posted reminds me of a great Italian custom of bringing wine, bread, salt, olive oil, a broom, rice and a candle to a new homeowner. I love "old-country" traditions!

I hope you feel better Tracey! :flower3:

There is "something" going around. When we headed home from WDW, Emily (DD8) "christened" Bill's new truck. Thank goodness for leather seats! It's no fun traveling with a sick child. :sad2:

I hope you get better soon to enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Kevin - Get better too!!!! :flower3:

Good luck pd and some get well wishes (sorry...been away from internet until today).

Congrats on the new home! Purging is great! We moved into our current house a few years ago and have been missing many movies on DVD that I was sure we owned. We finished off the "final" boxes in the garage this fall, and no luck in finding them. Then, this Christmas break, we reorganized the basement's laundry room/woodworking shop. I turned around and there, on a shelving unit, were four unopened moving boxes containing....the missing DVD collections! Another box was old tax returns, cards, letters, etc. Needless to say, I spent the night reminiscing and shredding. I saved a few special items, but more went to the recycling bin!

De-clutter now, label boxes well, and open everything up right away - or it just sits in a box. If you don't have a place for it in the new house, find it a new home of its own! :)

Best wishes! I'm sure it will be a wonderful home for all three of you!
