Looks like the park reservation system is here to stay.

I guess it’s all perception. When it was first announced I thought it was clear it was just going to be the next new land, similar to the original Harry Potter land, and then when they moved it to Epic Universe I also thought it was clear it was going to be the signature land of the new park, but still just a smallish part of the whole park.

No I’m aware it’s just a land. But it’s been in discussion for so long that when I saw what Japan got, which is I’m assuming what California and Florida will get, it’s my opinion that it was oversold as a huge thing when really it’s just a small addition.

It's the beginning of a larger addition of nintendo to the parks as a whole. Donkey Kong is already in the works and obvious connections can be made for Zelda and other popular franchises being added over time.

Not sure what you expected, but the land itself is projected to be 4 acres smaller than Pandora but will have 2 more rides and an entire interactive game.

I think people expected a real 3rd gate, I said this earlier in the thread, but it just feels like an addition to IOA that universal can bill as a 3rd gate. It does look cool, just nothing super unique for universal imo.

Also 4 acres smaller than Pandora 😨. Pandora is tiny, so I can’t imagine that’s a good thing, I would love to know what the major rides are as well. If it’s anything like the fast and furious ride…. Well I think that enough said haha

So what would make it a 3rd gate to you?

2 of the 3 rides already exist. The 3rd is rumored to be a new style of coaster.

Theme park stop channel

It doubles the size of the U.Orlando setup.

Do not discuss the new park if you have refused to do anything but laugh at Universal for going into tourist dollar war against the mouse.

Or continue to have your head in the sand that after the recession Universal market share will eat at Disney's. Neither will lower prices.

If they expand with pokemon and Zelda. Disney will be very much, finally, forced to address their crusty old rides. Hearing Tokyo is redoing theirs first was salt in a wound.

You will be $milked$ until you die via old rides.

If disney stops fighting government maybe they could focus on guest satisfaction. Reservation system needs to go.

It is a real 3rd gate. Nintendo is only part of the park. There is a Universal Monsters area as well as How to Train your Dragon for kids and another Harry Potter area.
IMO the Nintendo area is getting so much hype is cause of people like me who grew up on Mario.

See the way everyone keeps describing it, it just sounds like an add on. Outside of the themes, how is it any different them what IOA offers.

You could say the same for Disney parks. They are just add-ons to MK
So to me, IOA is disjointed, it doesn’t really flow from one area to the other, and it’s all basically the same idea, a smallish area comprised of 2-3 rides, Which is exactly what EU sounds like. The one exception seems to be HP where they will be onto their 3rd addition, which should help them sell all 3 gates. I would argue that each of Disneys gates has its own unique theme, the exception there would be HS, I feel like they’ve struggled with its identity for decades now.
Listen I’m not saying it won’t be cool, I’m sure it will be, I’m just saying they could have announced it as a huge add on to IOA, and it would fit in just fine. They are clearly trying to capitalize on a 3rd gate, to which I say, more power to them

So aside from epcot style, a zoo/aquarium theme and a traditional theme park (mk and dhs), what themes are you looking for here as people build new parks?

Many of the parks these days do not have cohesive themes because those overall joined concepts are too limiting for future expansions.

You can't put say a Ferrari world into these park mixes.

You must be a big fan of the peppa pig second gate.

The way you describe IOA and EU, you might as well say Cedar Point, Dollywood and Hershey Park are all the same.

I think Nintendo could hold its own as it’s own gate, dreamworks certainly has enough content to have its own gate, as well as Harry Potter. From what everyone is saying, EU is going to expand its “nintendo” area, so they clearly see it could hold its own.

I feel like Disney builds a framework around their parks, and as they build, the new lands have to fit within that framework. It's why Avatar land is in AK and not EPCOT . Again with the exception of HS, which is kind of ironic, because it was Disneys response to US coming to Orlando, and Mirrored what US offered, so i can see why it struggles to find an identity I think you could interchange any of the themed areas at IOA, and place them in EU, and it wouldn't feel out of place because there is no framework that the park uses as a boundary, and that is the difference in my mind.

I'm really not attempting to bash Universal, I am excited to see it myself, i am just pointing out what in my mind constitutes a weakness, we do not have to agree.

Granted i have not been to Cedar point, but Dollywood, and Hershey park have enough theming that you could tell what park you were in walking into both for the first time. The way IOA, and EU are themed. I don't think you could easily sort out the difference between the two, and that is the difference. Granted, EU isn't open yet, and i am jumping to conclusions based on what I've heard/read about it.

I do get what you are saying. It feels like theming for you is the most important part of a park. For me the important part is the rides and how good they are.

Hmmm. I guess it is similar to IoA in that it’s a theme park, but just because it’s similar in theme doesn’t mean it’s not a third gate. It’s a whole separate park. It may not have a cohesive theme but there is no doubt it’s a third gate, a separate park, even if the theme is similar to IoA.

The lands in the park will all be fresh and new with some state of the art rides (just a guess, I don’t have any insider info) and will definitely draw crowds away from other parks.

We don’t have a trip planned, but if EU was open when we next go, it would probably be the first UO park we would go to. We usual do both WDW and UO on a trip, and I don’t see that changing. It’s a fun different vibe at UO. Love both!

I believe I have rode more that 2-3 rides at IOA. It's a whole park, not a smallish area. In the HP area there are 3 rides, 4 if you count Hogswarts Express. Jurassic Park area you have 3 rides. Marvel area you have Dr. Doom, Spiderman and Storm force, then there is Suess Landing with 3 rides. Toon town? Ripsaw falls, Bilge Rat barge rafts .... I can go on. I believe you meant to say it's comprised of many areas with 2-3 rides each which is exactly what every park at WDW is.
