My youngest DD, a few weeks ago, developed a cold. I gave her OTC cold med as it wasn't really anything more than a cough...not even a runny nose. When, after a week, it didn't clear, I called the doctor and he prescribed cold medication (if you are a parent you know the 'purple stuff' :p ). Again, a week had passed and she was now coughing worse and her nose was now runny/stuffy. I called again and they simply told me it has to run it's course, continue with the med and if after another week, she is still coughing, call again.

Well, it's been another week, still coughing, still runny/stuffy but she is now, the gunk she is bringing up is yellow/green (I know, TMI!! :rolleyes1 ) and she has been getting headache, all behind her eyes, her forehead and her cheeks. I am not a doctor but it seriously think it has become sinus infection and it is more than time for them to call in an anti-biotic!! :rolleyes2 Ironically, her brother had the same thing about 3 weeks before Jessie started...he is 16 (she's 11) and they immediately called in the anti-biotic, which cleared him up within the first week. :rolleyes2 Go figure!!

It sounds like a sinus infection. Call back and insist on an anti-biotic. It's a shame she had to go three weeks with this when she should already be well. Good luck.

Sounds like a sinus infection to me, too. When I had mine last year, it started as a cold, and then progressed to an infection. The doctor asked pretty pointed questions to diagnose the it. Does she have a fever? Do her teeth hurt? Does she feel "foggy?"

I am very leery of taking antibiotics if I don't really need them, but in that case I did.

Hopey our DD is feeling better soon.

If she hasn't actually been seen in the last three weeks they need to look at her. It does sound like a sinus infection, but it may also be in her ears and throat(since they're all connected.) I think you've been handling it right--no need to jump right in with an antibiotic; try to manage things with OTCs first. Now that it's worsening, she may need an antibiotic, though.

Hope she feels better fast!
