That's fine, I also enjoy a drink or two (or 3 or 4) when on a cruise. Would love to meet up in person to compare notes.

You're really stretching this--he says he has reached the half mile mark while he was still on the pier, so clearly it is more than half mile. And yes, I do count the walk from the end of gangplank to tram--that is all part of the walk.

It's pointing out the flawed logic about how a 25% environment impact savings over a wider pier that could accommodate a tram justifies a poor guest experience. Disney makes tradeoffs every single day with its cruise ship to make guests comfortable, while mitigating the environmental impact in other ways that don't cause guests major discomfort or inconvenience, like using LNG fuel, recycling, avoiding single use plastics etc. And yes, I do absolutely think that if Disney could not provide a good guest experience for its family-friendly, multi-generational guests, then the right thing to do is to pass on the project and look elsewhere for a second island stop (I won't say private island, since it isn't actually private). If negotiations on LC failed, there are plenty of other places they could have proposed a development. As others pointed out, Carnival is building its new Celebration Cay to launch in 2025, and chose a location where it could provide guests easy access to the beach via a short pier.


I looked this up the other day - 0.4 miles. I'm all for giving people options. On Castaway, that's what guests have: options. Those that want a tram can take a tram. Those that want to walk can walk. LC has no options--unless you qualify as disabled, you have to walk. And there are plenty of people who don't need an HA room but have trouble with the walk.

While the pier is annoying, I say again that it looks much more daunting in pics and videos than it is when you are doing it. At a normal pace it takes around 11 minutes.
The majority of people I have spoken to on the ship say it wasn’t as bad as they thought and that they would return to Lookout Cay

Since you are out on the water, is there a breeze? Can you see fish?

I plan on filling our water bottles, packing some snacks and a change of clothes and enjoying the laughs my family will have on the journey to a beautiful beach (whenever we make it there). Oh and the pictures I’ll take!

I am SUPER excited to visit Lookout Cay in November and while the pier might take some coaxing for my 6yo we aren’t upset about it.

Still 100% this.

At the end of the day, a disney cruise is meant to be a luxurious and experience that prioritizes guests comfort and convenience. It's always been the relaxing, chill alterative to the theme parks for those who just want to relax on vacation.

I’m not interested in a WDW vacation, but I’ve got the cruise bug bad.

What I liked about the Wish was ... how open it felt in the interior. I had a veranda room so I had plenty of ocean views to enjoy while sipping wine or sometimes a mai tai, or Pina colada. I don't tend to look for that (views) elsewhere. I know, now that I type that sounds stupid lol. And I had great ocean views from Palo and Enchante. It was my birthday cruise so my daughter in law credited $150 into our account and I spent a day at sea going from one specialty themed bar to another trying out their specialty drinks. REALLY loved the theming of the bards more than the Dream and Fantasy. Great time. I thought I would find the Wish too big, but for some reason, maybe all the white, it felt no larger to me than the others (havent tried the Magic yet, looking forward to that). Had no problems getting around, but admittedly thats because I had seen the reviews beforehand so knew what to expect and avoid. I tend to research a lot I booked the Treasure hoping to do another tour de lounges lol

If we spring for a cabana I saw Minnie makes her way over there do all the characters make their way over to the cabanas private area or just Minnie?

You have the option to not take a cruise that goes there. Maybe DCL should have notified people before the launch. Maybe it's not the issue people make it out to be on social media. Now that everyone knows. Sales should determine whether people care or not.

I already have a cruise booked that is PIF, but even if I didn't, I also have the option to continue to share my concerns in a forum that Disney CMs monitor, and hope the message gets back to management that at least some people are very concerned and would like Disney to address it. Shade, benches, and water stations along the walking route would be good additions. Extra golf carts with the ability to schedule and reserve a ride would be another--one I and I'm sure others would happily pay for, like the people who rent golf carts at Fort Wilderness.

Till then, I'm gonna keep channeling my inner Mufasa and keep telling DCL: "Remember who you are." Disney should do its utmost to try to make the situation more pleasant for guests, like they have always done in the past, and should take a lesson learned from this for future projects that they need to think about the guest experience when designing new facilities.

We are lucky that she frequents these DIS boards.

I am still annoyed at how Disney made this pier. It's not an inviting view. And hot days make it worse.

I'm tired of hearing "the environment made them do it".

That pier design is just not up to normal Disney standards (in making the guest experience great).

Apparently the reason the pier was narrowed was to reduce the shadow impact on the underwater life. Putting up a canopy or other shade would increase the shade produced by the pier, negating the protection gained by narrowing the pier.

How would shadows on the actual pier affect the underwater whatsoever? Cruises in general are absolutely terrible for the environment so any arguments about shading are pretty trivial if we’re talking about environmental impact.

The sun only shines straight down once a day, otherwise it moves in an arc across the sky .. you know Apollo’s chariot? Point being for a lot of the day the shadow will project over the water

Lmao oh stop some colorful shading would give so much character to that pier. I need that and some more Disney touches and I’ll back off. Apparently more structures like the Mickey Junkanoo (???) are coming

I agree, would love something more cheerful than concrete... heck even some banners or flags would help. just because I understand the environmental argument doesn't mean I like it.. is that contradictory? lol. I am still hoping Disney comes up with a half mile log flume ride, think of it, easy to ride and keeps you cool.
