Lookout Cay long pier.

Coral reefs can be relocated. (https://www.caymancompass.com/2015/06/08/reefs-could-be-relocated-to-make-way-for-cruise-pier/) And if that's not an option or they don't want to attempt it then they should've put their property on a different island. They didn't have to choose this one. You can't tell me that they didn't damage the coral reef some by putting the pier footings where they did. They legitimately could've made that pier wider and added a turnaround for the tram.

Not everyone's cup of tea for a cruise line's Island but for us it's great

Because they didn't take the cheap option and they did consider the environment and government regulations when making their decisions. You don't have to like it, but that's how it is.
So you say

If we don't challenge Disney on poor decisions they make they are going to keep cutting corners and putting out an inferior product while charging us more money. There's only so much DCL Kool aid I can drink and we are Pearl status.

Couldn’t the tram just have an engine on both ends? Stop, unload, and then go back to the origin, no looping required? That’s what the train in Skagway does.
Yes, but that would limit the system to a single tram, which means that lines would get pretty long. Also, there's really not any room for a tram unless they eliminate the walking option.

I believe they were talking about using the tram on an expanded pier. Just without a turnaround near the ship. And you can run more than one tram that way. They just couldn't have more than one tram on the pier at a time.

That's almost the same as running only one tram, though. The only improvement is that maybe you can preload the next one.

My dad is having his 80th birthday on board and has bad knees (will not get them replaced) and can barely walk. I am trying to understand my whole trip to make sure it's a good experience for him. I was concerned about the pier and was certain that my dad would want to CXL when he saw it. When he saw it and found out that he could ride a golf cart he was happy. "I would love to get the senior treatment, sign me up." Not everyone with mobility issues has a problem with the pier.
I love your dad's attitude. It's amazing how much more positive my disabled family member is than those that can easily walk, too. I learn a lot form her.

That's the thing. Most people with significant disabilities are used to figuring out ways to do things by being problem solvers. For our disabled family member, we figure out how to navigate difficult spaces all the time. We marched all over NYC recently in very oppressive heat, in crazy crowds, and over sidewalks that wouldn't meet current ADA standards. We made it work and had a blast. In this case, DCL has provided a perfectly reasonable solution for accessing the island with a disability that we would be happy to use (even if it is just for the family member and the rest of us walk to leave space for others). Even if DCL didn't have golf carts, the truth is we would figure it out by taking the necessary mobility device. While I still don't think a 1/2 mile fully-exposed cement pier is what most people would have expected from a customer experience perspective, and DCL should have been more creative in making it a more comfortable experience, I don't see that disability access is currently a problem for the pier. If anything, it may improve access since a pier is better for electric mobility devices than a tender would be.

I can't even IMAGINE the bellyaching that would have resulted if they'd decided to make it a tender port like Norwegian did with Great Stirrup Cay.

Disney fans are frankly never satisfied so any decision they make will result in someone complaining.
