Looking to purchase but question on points CONFUSED !!

We have rented DVC points the last few trips and we really want to buy We found a contract we like for 150 points . Question is on timing if there are lets say 20 points now and 150 points next year (2016) in October and we buy now . When can we use these points ? We would like to go in November of 2016 can we book before October 2016 or do we need to wait till the points are all in our bank ?

You can book a full 11 months out, in this case Dec, 2015 for Nov, 2016. If you bank the 20 points, you could have up to 320 points with borrowing if needed. Look at the overall price but realize you'll be overpaying on dues if you pay the full dues in Jan, 2016 even if you don't reimburse the seller for any dues.

The Use Year refers to when the points will be consumed by your resort stay, not to when you are able to book the stay. You may book your stay 11 months prior to the start of you reservation for bookings at your home resort and 7 months prior for non-home resorts.

So if you have a Boardwalk contract with and October use year and you want to start your stay on Nov. 5, 2016, you may book a stay at Boardwalk beginning on Dec. 5, 2015 or on April 5, 2016 for any other DVC resort. You will either be using 2016 points (since the reservation begins after Oct. 1, 2016), banked 2015 points, or borrowed 2017 points.

The points need to be available in your account for the dates of the stay, not the date that you make the reservation.
