First Q: What are the best companies to deal with: I know about the timeshare store but who else?

Second Q: On The Timeshare Store's website the SSR contracts has asking prices of like 72-80 but I'm seeing contracts going in the 50's...Is it recommended to offer that much lower then asking? Or better question those that bought SSR that low what was asking price out of curiosity...

where have you seen these prices recently (in the last year or so)? (and how large were the contracts that were going that cheaply?)

keep in mind if you are looking at the ROFR thread, that can include some contracts sold a few years back when the economy was pretty dire...and those prices aren't useful these days...

you're free to ask whatever price you want...and should do so if you are in no hurry. but if you are actually trying to make a deal, you should know that resale prices have gone up quite a bit recently...

There are three or four major DVC resellers. Just go to Google and search. They all are good and it just depends on who has the inventory you want.

I think you are going to have a very hard time finding SSR in the 50s, but you can try and you risk ROFR.

Check the database of recent sales for a general idea of what they go for.

Smaller point contracts sell for much more than larger point contracts.

I actually got a contract for 150 pts at SSR recently that was 58.00 per point. It can be done. I don't know how rare it is though.

It was Fidelity. They have been wonderful to deal with. I must say that I was very nervous about passing ROFR. But it did pass. That may have also been because there were no points until 2014. Passing ROFR seems to have to do with how many points are on the contract currently also. I guess if it isn't appealing to Disney for resale, they will pass on it. Good luck searching! I looked for 2 years.

I just put a deposit down late last week on the one you highlighted from the first broker, just waiting on it to go to ROFR. Offered $58 as a starting point and after some back and forth settled on $66 with seller paying everything but admin fee.

I feel I got a fair price. I would start in the high 50s for a stripped contract or low 60s with some points and go from there. Hope that helps.

We added on a few times and we used Fidelity. We ALWAYS offered less than the list price.

We got completely loaded ssr for $72/point a couple months ago. It was listed at $80. I found the whole negotiating process kind of complex and muddy because of the stripped vs loaded contract issues. I saw a couple contracts posted at over $80 that I offered low $60s and they sold for full price. I had been working on several different contracts and either the sellers wouldn't budge enough or someone else would come along and pay full asking price. I'm guessing if you are really patient you can occasionally find great deals, but when I considered the fact that I could rent the 2 years of extra points at $11-$12 a point, it made the $72 easier to stomach. Figured it was probably worth more than completely stripped $60/point contract which is what I had offered earlier on a different contract and was turned down.

I've definitly seen better deals being posted on this site, but it will take some work and patience to get them.

Stripped contracts do not have any points for the current UY (2013) and missing or no points for the next UY (2014). Loaded contracts are the opposite. They have all of this UY (2013) and some or all of the prior UY (2012) which can or have been banked.

Our 100 pt SSR had an ask of 68 and we settled at 64. We might have haggled a bit or kept shopping for a few extra dollars per point, but we looked at the actual dollars and decided that 2-3 dollars of sale price was only 2-300 real dollars on a 100 pt contract. We have zero complaints with our purchase price at 64. We could have shopped more and and maybe saved a few hundred dollars but over the length of the contract that amount was not worth the continued shopping/haggling.

This might sound crazy to some, but in our minds, we want the seller to be happy with the transaction as well. When dealing with an individual seller as opposed to a corporation, we actually think about the seller and how are they coming out of the deal. If we ever dealt with a truly distressed seller, I don't know if we could have the heart to take advantage of their misfortune and really lowball them. Probably not. I wouldn't sleep well at night knowing I took advantage of someone's misery. In no way is this a condemnation of anyone who always drives for the best deal, I am just speaking for us. Buying from a company (like a car dealership) on the other hand, we look to cut every dime we can from the price. I know it sounds odd, but that is just how we view things.
