Silly question, but do we post on other people's journals to support them, or do we just read them to learn more about them?

And MY reply;)

I PMed Kelsie with this exact question. But mine was more of a comment. I thought it would be best to use the regular WISH board or PMs to reply and keep the journal for the Poster alone.

I've never known of a Journal that others can post to -- outsiders can usually on read the postings.

I also find it distractive when I want to read a persons journal to have to weed thru all the supportive replies.

Am I the only one?

:D

I'm all for posters only. Feedback is nice, (and welcome!) but it can be distracting if it is posted to the journal. PM and WISH threads would be a better place for that. :)

Keep the Faith!

My opinion is that WHATEVER makes either the person who's journal it is, or the person reading (posting to) happy, is the way to go.

We are all different people, with different needs. If a person does not want others to post to their journal, just mention that at the top. Otherwise, the encouragement is more than welcome IMHO. People are invariably going to post things in the journals that never make it into "stand alone" threads on the WISH board, and to stifle anyone's desires to add encouraging comments is not a great thing........again IMHO.

:)

MAN! It is frightening way up here on my soap box..LOL

you guys can feel free to add anything to my journal, especially if you have suggestions for me!!

I love reading replies.:)

I think John's idea might be the best way to go. This way, if a poster does not want posts to the Journal, they can state so (maybe in the title). Personally, I welcome encouragement and comments there so I will leave mine open. :)

The journal is very new, so questions like this are great :)

I'm not comfortable posting a public journal yet. I'm really not comfortable reading anyone else's unless they ask me specifically to do that. I agree with John, it should be a personal decision.

I think, though, that even if someone said "don't read" people are going to read it. I could be wrong, of course, but there are other people on the DIS. Not all of them are WISHers.

It bothers me a little to think that someone who doesn't understand how hard we are working and how important this is to us might read someone's journal then make fun of them.

People who don't even post on the DIS could try to use this information to humiliate people. I hate to admit that people can be so cruel but it is a sad fact of life. I remember an incident involving group of malicious people who went to the community board and took photos back to their twisted home board and posted them. I would hate to see that happen with these journals.

I don't believe that there is a WISHer on this board that would read when they were asked not to read. It is not the WISHers I'm thinking about.

It just makes me so sad to even have to say these things.

I am LUVIN the new boards!! I think they can be very motivational for everyone who uses them.

Kath- I understand where you are coming from and I do agree with you....however, I REFUSE to let the evil thoughts and actions of others prevent me from being who I am!!

I totally respect how you feel...its just a shame because you have so much to offer and are such a unbelieveable person. I would never want "somebody" "out there" to use any information to hurt us. When you are ready the new boards will be there & we will be supporting you fully.

I agree with Kath, I do think it can be used as a weapon if someone doesn't understand how Wish works, so to speak. Kath, you are not the only one who has been thinking these things, but unfortunately the DIS isn't our own private community...

I think the Journals are a wonderful idea though and I certainly wouldn't read one if asked not to!

I never intended for anyone to post anything in a journal that they were uncomfortable with others reading, I merely indicated that if they wanted others to not POST to it, they should simply say that in the journal. Most of us are aware that the internet is anything BUT a totally secure, non-threatening place. I too think that no "WISHer" would ever do such a thing, but as pointed out, this is by no means a closed society here.

:)

I like John's idea of letting people post if they want. I know I would love people to leave feedback on mine...I get very crazy and I think I don't mind if people leave suggestions....On other diet discussion board, the journals are posted to... :)

Feel free to post to mine :)

Sorry to rehash this back to page one. But I was away all day yesterday. Since it was originally my thread I want to make a final reply on it.

I WELCOME anyone to read my journal AND to post to it if they chose (although a PM would be appreciated even more!). I was just questioning if this was the intention of the journal page --- as it isn't the kind that I have been use to in the past.

I would never post anything to my journal that I don't want the public to read. I was just finding it distracting to me when I put time asside to read a WISHers journal and to have to weed thru all the replies - when all I wanted to do was read the journal entries.

I think the journal entries will be a wonderful way to get ideas from other posters following similar plans. I will just weed my way thru so I can read the posts that I wish to.
:D
