Looking for tips to organize room...

I had seen some tips a few months back on things to take to help organize your room.... Now that we're at the 30 day countdown it's time to get serious and I can't find the old thread.

We are flying so I'm looking for ideas that can be packed in a suitcase, and we're staying at ASMo.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Get an over-the-door shoe hanging bag...the kind made out of clear vinyl with multiple open pockets. Hang over the bathroom door, and use it to keep your toiletries and little stuff in.

Also, a collapsible laundry hamper is nice to have.

We're at 29 days as of today, but we're at POP. We have 3 adults, and I can't stand clutter in my hotel room. I'm not normally a neat-freak, but I don't want anyone else to witness my clutter!! Also, I once helped a friend, who runs a hotel, clean rooms and realize that I am one of the worlds best hotel guests. I all but make my own beds! I am bringing along a hanging canvas closet 'shelf' that has about 4 open cubbies for my clothes. DH and DS can have the dresser drawers. I also have the above mentioned shoe caddy. I will bring along a little basket for change, and all of the other little things that linger after a day at the parks. Hope you have a great vacation!

Many may not do this, but, I layer my clothes as to what I will wear each day. I hang a "dirty clothes" bag near by. Toss the dirty ones in. I also, when layering the clothes, I put my undies and socks in a plastic zip lock bag and when I go to shower, I pull out the top layer and grab the bag with the clean undies etc...makes my life much easier...happy packing

I do something similar, but I use packing cubes that I bought at eBags.com. They're really convenient too in case the TSA decides to search your bag.

I'm more worried about getting all the clothes we need in ONE suitcase. Because of the baggage fees they charge now, DH and I will be sharing a suitcase. However, my mom suggested we take 3 or 4 days worth of clothes and we'll do laundry one afternoon/evening in the middle of our trip.

We packed all the kids clothes in ziploc bags (one outfit per bag). This made it really easy to grab an outfit for the day rather than digging through the suitcases for a matching top, bottom, socks, undies. Also, I was able to toss each child's bags into their own drawer in the dresser. We put the empty suitcases up on the shelf in the closet area, so we had plenty of floor space. We also had a collapsable hamper that we kept in the closet and tossed all the dirty clothes into.

Rather than packing extra organizational things, try this to keep stuff organized at the sink area. I pop up the ironing board to the same height as the sink and place it under the clothes rod. That way each person has a space on the ironing board for their toiletries and the sink remains totally clear.

We also pack as light as possible and do laundry. The laundry facilities are usually near the pool and that way the kids can get some swim time while I do laundry. Whatever comfy clothes we wear on the flight enroute are washed and that is the same thing we wear on the return trip.

Each kid's toys, books, electronics, etc. are all kept in their backpacks by the bed and out of the way.

When we get back from the parks I take a minute to sort souvenires, receipts, tickets etc. and then re-pack my backpack with the day's agenda and all necessary items for the next day so it is ready to go each morning.

I cna't stand a messy room, just drives me nuts and I can't relax, so organizing it in a way that keeps things straight is critical.

My biggest concern is the suit case ... trying to pack one suit case for two people and having enough room in it when we return with extra t-shirts and Disney "Christmas Gifts!" We're going in ... 4 days! We got a condo so we can be slobs at the room!

Staying on property I suggest traveling as light as possible. Are there laundrys at your resort? Use all the space available including under the beds. And remember to place EVERYTHING of value in the room safe! Don't make the mistake of thinking because it's Disney people cleaning your room they're all honest and upright! I'm sure most are but people are people, some are honest and some arent. Lock up EVERYTHING of value ... even pressed pennies! Some poor lady on the forum a month or so ago lost her pressed pennies from her Disney resort room. She was very upset. don't let that be you!

I refuse to do laundry on vacation ! We went in September and I tried the over the door thing and it was not worth it to me. I kept things neat in the cubby under the counter in our room at the Poly. Clothes- each person had their own drawer with shorts, underwear and jammies. I stopped at Walmart and bought the super cheap hangers and hung all the shirts we brought and left the hangers when we left. Extra shoes were kept in the bags unless you put the other pair away (only 1 pair per person out). We took garbage bags for each day- nightly after showers I took 5 minutes, folded and packed the dirty clothes away. Two nights before we left I went thru the "extra" clothes we took and packed them away. The night before we left I had little packing to do...last minute stuff. The only thing I wish I had taken and forgot was the extra bag to take as a carry on for souveniers!

Seems everyone has different ideas. We just put stuff away when we were done with it- put the camera, keys to car (rental), billfolds, electronic toys, etc. in the safe when they weren't in use. Food was kept in the closet/refrig area and that was put away when not being eaten.


We flew Airtran and this was before they charged for the second bag...even then we only took 4 bags for 4 people (2 adults and 2 boys 13 and 11). Remember to not put everyones clothes in only one suitcase in case one gets lost. I even took pool towels for the waterparks--
