Any tips? DH is having a scope tomorrow AM and will be starting the prep in the next few minutes. 1.5 oz of the Phosphor-Soda now and then again at 9.

Seems to me that I had read some tips to make the "cocktail" easier to go down.

Would appreciate any assistance! :)

If it's any thing close to what I had to drink prior to a laparoscopy many years ago, I tried to mask the taste by way of life savers. It did help.

To this day, I can't eat a lifesaver. :crazy2:

Best of luck to your DH.

If it's the same stuff I took, mixing it into ginger ale is a good option. I didn't find it too bad at all.

Mix it with ginger ale. Goes down much easier and the ginger ale helps calm your stomach.

Then just stock up on LOTS of newspapers, books, and magazines and place them in the bathroom.

Newspapers, books and magazines!! Heck, I brought the laptop and a few DVDs in with me!

Thanks guys! We are ready for "round one." :teeth:

I am going to mix it with ginger ale or Sprite for him and try to stay out of the path of the bathroom. ::yes::

Well, DD has a portable DVD player. I will tell her to lend it to her dad! :teeth:

Good luck....mine kicked in while I was still trying to choke it down (I mixed it with lemonade). :teeth:

The good news is...the test itself isn't that bad. This really is the worst part.

Definitely stock up on entertainment for the bathroom. :goodvibes

I didn't mix mine, I chased it with something. I can't remember what. It helped remove the burning from my tongue. :crazy2:

Good luck!

Well, he just took the first dose. Our directions said to mix the Phosphur-Soda with 4 oz of something. He downed it a couple of swallows. And then said "Uggghhh!"

So THAT part wasn't too bad. Now to get through to the next dose at 9 pm and then to the test itself at 6:30 AM tomorrow.

A previous thread regarding these scopes (he is actually having both - ingoing and outgoing) has assured us that there is nothing to worry about...

I just chugged it...then went for the Ginger-Ale and bathroom. I did take the second dose a little early cause...gee...I wanted to get SOME sleep :)

It is quite nasty....worse than the procedure.

hemoroid or diaper rash medicine for when it's finally over

and remember not to let him drink anything in the morning. I confessed to the doc that I drank a sip of water and they almost cancelled the whole thing.

Good wishes for him, Beth. Hope all goes well tomorrow. The test itself is sort of anticlimatic after all the buildup. My best.

I've heard not to mix it with anything that you really like to drink because you won't like it anymore after that!

I mixed my 2 bottles alternating with the lemon limesoda/ginger ale/lemonade over ice and it wasn't too bad. Also, be a good idea to have some wet wipies, they are a real life saver !! I had both scopes done at once too. The thought is alot worst than the test. They weren't bad at all and only lasted about 45-60 min. Definitely worth it for the peace of mind!!
Best of luck to your DH! :goodvibes

I just mix with Sprite of Ginger Ale and CHUG. Oh, I hold my nose, too.

Then usually bring the laptop and a small TV into the bathroom =)

Not much more to add here b/c everyone else had some wonderful suggestions (especially the wet wipes!). Tell your husband we send best wishes his way! :goodvibes The actually colonoscopy was a breeze compared to the prep. Good luck!

Thank you all for your great tips and well wishes. :)

I told DH about them and he asked "How many people did you actually TELL about this?"

Oh, umm, only 55,000 or so... :teeth:

I had a really bad cold so never tasted the stuff and felt so crummy the next morning I barely noticed the test.

Good Luck to your husband----

Well, I actually tried numbing my tongue with an ice cube for the first one. That worked a little. That one wasn't as bad as the one I had to drink the morning of the proceedure. I could only have a sip of water after it. That nearly did me in.
