Does anyone have any suggestions?
DH smokes two packs a day, he has tried patches and Zyban and it basically did not work because he has no will power to quit.
Nagging doesn't work , his mother and aunt dieing of heart problems and lung cancer did not scare him , I don't know what else to try. It doesn't seem to bother him , but the truth is that his health would be much better without smoking. He stays confined to our bedroom when he's home because that's where his computer is , but the smell at times it's unbearable to those of us who don't smoke. Any suggestions out there that wwe could try?

He is not going to quit until he wants to quit. I quit 8 years ago cold turkey and never looked back!::yes::
Best of luck to you and your husband!

I'm afraid of that tiggersmom, but I figured I would ask anyway, I'm at my wits end with this.

I keep saying this as I approach my 1 year quit date on June 3rd 2003....

I am a CIG-A-HOLIC. I will ALWAYS want a smoke. There is no such thing as will power. You either CHOOSE to smoke or you do not. No patches, drugs or anything will help me either.
Some people I talk to understand this. Some people just don't.

I thank God I am not an alcoholic (sorry for anyone that is) because I live everyday knowing I will not SMOKE.

So bottom line he has to want to quit, there is nothing you can do. I would however make him smoke outside if he wants to continue smoking. He can smoke to his hearts content but you don't have to have it in your house.

(I do smoke in my dreams!)

unfortunately, i agree with tiggersmom. i also quit cold turkey.

sad to say, if dh (before we were married) had not given me an ultimatum, i would probably still be smoking today. :(

He does have to want to quit...but, my DH has been smoke free for about 6 months now and he did it with the SmokeAway program. The patches and gum just replace the nicotine, so they didn't help him. This stuff is guaranteed to help you quit in 7 days, and it worked!

hubby and I quit 18 years ago I think......cold turkey and I was a big smoker.....a mighty big smoker.......and hubby always says....we are smokeaholics temporarily on the wagon.......cause even though it has been a long time ago we quit.....it is still in you..........I am glad we quit and I would never take it up again....but you smell your brand out there and the odor of a match being lit.....

Try this:

My mom used this and quit smoking for nearly 15 years. She did up again last year...it was family stress, my wedding, and she was going through a rough time...she just picked one up on a whim and started smoking again. :( She doesn't smoke as much as she used to in her "hey day" (nearly 2.5 packs a day!!) but still.

She does swear by life sign though...but she was at a point in life where she WANTED to quit...right now, she thinks she needs it due to all the stress in her life (big family issues again.)

It's a very ingenious product...I too smoke (I know - bad) and plan on quitting before starting a family...this will probably be what I try first. I'm not nearly as heavy a smoker as my mother was (I smoke 2 packs a WEEK.) but still...i need to kick it soon...

I was a HEAVY (Pall Mall non-filters, 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day) smoker about 17 years ago and used acupuncture to quit. Of course, it took willpower too, but I'd tried to quit before then without success. It seems the acupuncture did the trick for me and I've never had a cigarette since.
