going in december. won't leave anything like wallet or purse or phone or anything overtly tempting in there. but may want to have a couple of throws (for candlelight processional or fantasmic if it turns out to be another cold winter) in the basket that i would rather not carry on to rides and into restaurants, but rather they didn't walk away either.

i suppose it just comes down to a small chain and padlock and a case with a strong handle. of course the lock would suggest something valuable is within. oh well, just a thought.

My DH just purchased an ecv for me and will be working on the same concept when it arrives. I'll let you know what he comes up with.

It takes some work, but you can attach a backpack usually to the back side of your seat. You have to play with the straps some to make it hang on, but it's doable. You can use cords or even smaller chains to secure it, as well as, carbineer lock mechanisms. Better backpacks have zipper pulls that you can slide a lock on. Between having the backpack securely locked on the seat back and the individual locks on the zippers to the backpack it's very secure. Noone would want to deal with trying to get it off. You would need special cutters to even try. It's hard to describe all of this, but it works.

I like to save my basket for those items like a camera and such; so, I can access them easily and take them on rides, etc when needed. While riding around or waiting on the scooter I get my camera interweaved with the basket by using my strap in and out of the open wires for the basket. Noone can grab the camera easily that way. If it has a strap you can secure it pretty good in the basket.

We do a bigger backpack with many compartments and we are able to carry hoodies for two and throws, as well. We are never cold no matter what time of year. If we get hot it's good to store extra clothing there, as well.

I have never left anything of value in my basket, but we have carried blankets with no problem. I have a bicycle lock to hook our small cooler to the basket and have even hung small purchases with no issue.

I always take a duffel bag with an adjustable strap and put it around the back of the seat on my cousin's ECV. Great for jackets, blankets, extra shoes, ponchos or umbrellas. That way your basket is free for other things like your purse that you would carry on the rides. We never had anything stolen from the bag. They will have to checked when you go through the bag check.
