looking for school fundraising ideas

My students have a chance to see the Nutcracker Ballet in Dec. but we need to raise $$$ to help cover the cost of the tickets. Got any easy ideas??? Thanks!

Here is a great idea. Have each of the 1st - 3rd grade class fill a basket to raffle. Think of a theme for each class basket. Students buy items to fit the theme. Then you raffle them off. Do you have a holiday concert or something before that you can display them? If so, set them out and have parents/students pay a dollar for a ticket (or whatever amount you think). Put their name and phone number on the ticket. When your done with the raffle choose your winners.

We are doing this at our school. Some themes I am using are:

Movie Night Basket (videos,popcorn,blanket, pillow, DVD's)
Barbie Basket
Book Basket
Hot Wheel Basket
Mom's Spa Basket
Dad's Handyman Basket
Dog or Cat Lovers Basket
Chocolate Basket
Craft Basket

It does take someone to coordinate it and be able to send home updates to the parents, but it is worth it.

At my DS's school they raise several hundred dollars each year with a penny war.

It goes on for about a week. Each class (our school has one class each K-8) has a large water cooler jug that sits outside their door.

On the way into school, students drop change in the jugs. Pennies are worth 1 point and every other coin is -5 points, -10 points or -25 points.

So the object is to put the pennies in your jug and the silver in someone else's.

Rankings are announced every afternoon, so you know which class to "bomb" the next day.

My DS was so mad last year, because his class was leading on Thursday. They got "bombed on Friday abd wound up coming in 3rd.

The class with the most points wins a prize (at our school it is a no-uniform day and ice-cream.)

We made over $$800 last year for new library books.
