I know I have seen this before (I thought on the tug site) but where are some places to look for possilbe hawaii trades?

thanks for the help!

Are you talking resort choices through DVC, direct exchange options or alternate exchange companies?

The Kona Coast I and II are considered relatively easy trades to do through DVC and II. They're supposed to be very nice resorts on the big island, although they're on the other side of a golf course from the beach. We're headed there next spring and will certainly report back.

Sorry I wasn't more specific, but I thouhgt I saw a list somewhere of pople w. hawaii ownerships looking to trade, but I really can't remember who it was through.

My parents are owners at Kona Coast II, so I've stayed there several times. It is a very nice resort, but some of the units are starting to show their age. The last time we stayed there, in Dec. of 2002, our unit had multiple problems (no blinds in the kitchen window, ceiling fan didn't work, other glitches I can't remember) and we had to move to another unit after just one night. So if you do stay there, be sure to inspect your unit when you arrive and let the front desk know if there are any problems.

And re the "beach" -- most of the beaches on the Big Island are pretty rocky, and the one at KCII is no exception. For a sandy beach you have to go north to the Kohala Coast area -- there is a very nice, sandy, public beach several miles north of the major resorts up there (sorry I can't remember the name). It would be a 45 minute drive from KCII. If you want beaches, then Paniolo Greens would be closer, but it would also be farther away from the shopping, fishing and restaurants at Kailua-Kona. The two would be about equal driving time from the Volcano National Park.

The TUG is where I went to find someone to trade with for Hawaii.

I am not aware of a HI specific direct trade list or similar. TUG (Timeshare Users Group) will have two direct exchange lists. One is a listing of owners who list what the own and essentially that they will entertain direct exchange offers. The other is more of an add format where you list a specific reservation or the like and list what you are looking for. Of course this Rent Trade Board on DIS is a good place to start.

dean can you provide a link to the second tug site you are talking about, I can't seem to find it on the site.

thanks!

I think you have to be a member to access those sites but am not certain. If you go to the TUG home page and go down the left side, it's under the heading "timeshare news/info". The specific llink titles are DIRECT EXCHANGE DATABASE and DIRECT EXCHANGE LIST. Remember you can work it from both sides. You can list what you have and what you want as well as contact people and make offers. Don't forget to post on the Rent/Trade Board though.
