How did you learn that Mike?
the Portofino suite is basically two adjoining rooms, the second room had a sleeper sofa instead of a bed and also has a bathroom. I had a choice of that or a Villa suite, the villa suite has a King bed or queen bed villa room and then a combination livingroom(with pull-out sofa), dining room and a kitchenette, also has another bathroom.

Cheryl, I talk to Billy at the PBH yesterday and had asked him what was an upgrade for my already booked Del Pool Rooms and he had told me Portifino Suites. I passed that info to Mike in another discussion. Did I miss understand him? He rattled off that if I had booked the Portinfino that an upgrade would be a Villa Suite and then he went on about some suites on the Fifth floor that were Villa's and had balconies, then he lost my attention as I had to swat a child:rolleyes: . If i'm wrong correct me hear, but I was with him up till the 5th floor thing.LOL

I know the *swat the child* while you're on the phone thing all too wel!!

I can't figure out how they do the upgrade thing! That's probably the logical way they do it, but I'm sure it also depends on availability. I also think because we are Loews gold members we get a double upgrade, so that's probably why we were offered either. I'll tell you though, they aren't quick to give out those suites! Out of all the times we've stayed there they have only upgraded us once to a suite.

They gave me the floor plans by fax (which I have'nt had time to sit down and look at good yet). Can you give me the Yummy details of the rooms and suites you have had a chance to stay in? How many folks could sleep in Por. and Villa suites and what are the views? I wondered to if they balcony goes out when you get one of those suites or can you still have the balcony? BTW/ I don't know when you plan a return trip but we are going back in Aug. and I thought about gathering info on Grinchmas and taking the troop back minus the Nanny. I was looking and expedia, and hotel kingdom have the PBH with N/A on 12/25-12/29. What's up with that? Are they really booked you think? And tell me something how does Loew's credit you with qualifing stays? What quilifies? Each room and Each night? Some staff says yes and others think it's one credit per stay? After this stay if they do the room and per night deal I would be at 10 total credits.

Oh My! LOL

The suites: I've only stayed in the Villa suite. You can get that suite with either a king (which we had), the King also had a twin puul-out couch in the bedroom or you can get the bedroom with two queens. it must also turn into a two bedroom suite. Then the sofa had a pull-out queen bed. But plenty of room, it was huge! It had a huge dining room table with eight chairs! A small kitchenette with micro & fridge and plenty of cabinets. We overlooked the piazza, you could see the bay and all the restaurants. No balcony!
The Portofino suite, I just looked at it. It was a standard room with an adjoining room that had a pull-out sofa, a cocktail table and a bathroom in each room.I think you can get that with a king bed or two queens.
They also have kids suites (I've only peeked through the window!) Room with a King, then another area with two twins or a bunk and one bathroom.
It might be that are not giving discounts out that week of Christmas at PBH or that they are sold out. I'll be at Disney that week, staying at the Swan!
As far as the credits, who knows once again! I've stayed so many times I can't believe I'm still at gold! It's not like other chains where you can check your points. Like Hilton I can go online & check to see how many points I earned per stay. I am going again the beginning of August (when are you there?) then in Nov. I have six rooms booked for four nights each, I better be at Platinum by then! Although after that I'm giving it a rest for awhile.

Thanks for the info Cheryl. We'll be there 8-30 (got BW LBV for $25 on Priceline) 8/31-9/2 we will be at the PBH 2 rooms 2 nights. Adults only that trip. When we were there during the week of the 4th I had 3 rooms for 2 mights. The three rooms worked out less exp than any suite that would hold us! My trio sleep together in a room then the Nanny and my 10 yo shared a room then me and dh had a room. Everybody enjoyed there space. I'm sure I can find a suitable suite there but with entertainment rate I got all three rooms with tax was 599 a night. Which back then I did'nt know about the upgrades. Are'nt they $35.

If they are available at check in, so you really can't count on it.
Let me know how that BW is, I'm going to try for it in Nov. on priceline, I have to go up for two days w/o my family & I want something cheap but clean. I have heard a lot of people are getting that. Thanks.

I do know that each stay counts as 1 credit. Even if you stay for 10 nights it is still 1 credit. Even if you book 2 rooms for that one stay it is still one credit.

I fought very hard w/ Loews in NY about this. That is their policy. Two yrs. ago I booked two rooms for 7 nights and received only one credit.................... UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a good policy if you ask me, but what can you do???????

Debbie;)

I talked to Loews a couple days ago about upgrading for $35 with my platinum card for my upcoming stay. They said since I am using the entertainment rate for my room that no amenities for the card are available to me! Has anyone had any experience with this? She also said that included AAA, AARP or any discounted rooms. Who pays rack rate for a hotel room?

Carol

I called Loew's on Wednesday to upgrade our reservations at the HRH at the end of August - they told me also that the Loew's first card couldn't be used with the Entertainment rate. I'm still planning on asking when we get there - nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I agree that few people pay rack rate anymore, so why not let people with the Loew's first card get the benefits?

They won't do it over the phone, it's based on availability when you walk in. It is written that you can't get upgraded with any discounts but I think they are pretty good about it if they have room. Every time I have stayed at PBH they have upgraded me, at HRH they offered me a pool (I booked garden) but we rufues because we like the garden view, and at RP they were sold out so that did that. doesn't hurt to ask.

Sorry, I guess I need to clarify - I actually changed our reservations from standard garden @ $125 (ent. rate) to deluxe (@ $155 ent. rate). I thought it was worth the extra $30 to get the additional space. I'm not even sure we'd be eligible for an upgrade from deluxe with the Loew's card ...
