Looking for Input about Vero Beach

I've been reading everything I can find online, but since some posts have VB instead of Vero Beach, I'm having trouble with the search function giving information easily. So, I decided to post here asking for any input.

We are heading to Vero after a few days at WDW. I read the info in the Mickey Monitor about passholder rates, but unfortunately the nights we wanted were unavailable :( . Well, I wanted to go so badly, I went ahead and booked without the AP rate! :) Now I am trying to gather as much information as possible (I am a hopeless planner and love to find out all the details before a trip!)

I am hoping that this will be the relaxing vacation that dh wants (after the MK visit that I want!), and from what I've read it sounds like Disney's Vero Resort is very laid-back!

I'm interested in knowing if the character breakfast is offered other days besides Sat. Has anyone been to it? Is it worthwhile?

What about the mini golf - I saw something about a flat rate for a week's worth of golf - any price idea for a non DVC member? Is that for 7 days? What about a shorter stay?

What about the restaurants? Would you recommend any in particular - at the resort and outside of the resort? Do you prepare meals in your room instead?

What is the likelihood of an ocean view with a studio?

I'm dying for details, so feel free to tell me everything you know!
Thanks!!! :earsgirl:

Very true.... If you are looking for a place to wind down after a couple of days of park hopping, VB is great!

I'm not a 100% on this, but I think that during the busier seasons the character breakfast is also on Wednesday... (Don't quote me though..) The two characters are Goofy and Max... Two years ago, we took my DS.. He was 1 year old at the time and loved it... My DW and I had a great time there, and several other guests without kids seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I haven't heard of a flat rate for a week's worth of golf, but there is a price for a day's worth... I'm not entirely sure what it is at the moment though...

What about the restaurants? Would you recommend any in particular - at the resort and outside of the resort? Do you prepare meals in your room instead?

We usually prepare almost all of our meals in our room and eat on the balcony.. :teeth: That being said... Shutter's, Sonya's, and the Green Cabin Room are all good! Make sure to sit outside on the balcony of the Green Cabin Room for lunch and get a hamburger... You won't regret it... :teeth:

Other offsite restaurents that I have heard recommended are: Captaim Hirams, Ocean Grille, and the Black Pearl... Stop by the front desk.. They have a 3 ring binder full of recommendations...

What is the likelihood of an ocean view with a studio?

Not impossible, but request a room on the third floor... Your best bet would be to try and get an Inn Room with an Oceanview... Inn Rooms and Studios are pretty much the same size.

A couple of things I would recommend
  • Massage: Stop by Eb & Flo's near the pool, and splurge for a massage.
  • Hale Orange Groves: Hale's is just up the road on US1 from VB... It's worth the trip if you like fresh squeezed Orange Juice..
  • Harbor Branch Oceangraphic Tour: A little expensive... But if you or your DH are into science, or would just like to see more of the Treasure Coast, this is a good day excursion.
  • Bike Ride: Rent a bike at Eb & Flo's and go on the bike tour...

I would also advise you to call the resort a few days before, and ask them to fax you a copy of the next few days of activities... This will give you and idea of what to expect when you get there....

Just got back from 2 days at VB (first time). My Input:

It is wonderful. I will say I am not a big fan of the beach at Vero, but, it provides great background noise and makes for a wondeful setting.

If you stumbled across my other posts, you will find that I have raved about the CM's at Vero. I used to love WDW because of the CM's and their constant striving to make sure guests were taken care of. Those who have been to WDW many times over many years understand how the standards at WDW have dropped. The folks at VB set an unbelievable standard on how folks at a resort should be treated. It was fantastic!

I only have the activity list provided to me from the resort and it was only on Saturday. After enjoying the Character Breakfast at Cape May Cafe I can honestly say I enjoyed it more:

1) We went at 7:30 AM and only 6 other parties were in the restaurant. Since we were leaving that day I asked the "Handler" if Max might head over sooner so we could hit the road - Max came buy one minute later.

2) The price for adults was 13.99. For kids 9.99. OK, you only get two characters - but - it is a whole lot cheaper!

They advertise 5.00 for Unlimited golf. I am not sure if that is per person or family. Only 3 of us played (and once at that) so that did not come up.

I think you have 5 options:

1) Shutters: Casual Dining. We went there and loved it. Reasonably priced and very good food. Entrees run from 11.00 to 25.00.

2) Sonyas: Upscale Dining (resort casual dress). Did not go there - but - sure it is good. Entrees run from 17.00 to 38.00

3) Bleachers: Pool-side dining. Soft Drinks, Beer, Alcohol, hamburgers, etc.

4) Room Service: Very nice. 3.00 charge for room service. Very flexible. My wife wanted only a little salad - no problem - they prepared a 1/2 Ceasar Salad and charged 1/2 price!

5) Green Room: Bar and food overlooking the Beach.

Based on my experience - not much problem. I will this: The Inn Rooms are bigger then the Studio's. We had a Ocean Inn room the first night and a Studio the second (on Cash Ressie). The CM told us we would be happier in the Inn Room. He also provided us the chance to tour an open Studio Room to veify this.

Be warned - many Ocean Inn rooms are on the side of the resort - thus you do not get a clear view of the ocean.

The details are this: You will come back and posting about the wonderful time you had at Vero. The resort is wonderful - the people who work at the resort make it special!

Enjoy this wonderful perk of being a DVC member!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

Your posts are exactly what I was looking for!!

mbhoxsie - I appreciate your responses, and I love the idea of asking the resort to fax a list of activities! It also sounds like Eb & Flo's will be on my list to visit! I think a bike ride will be great, and the massage even better!! THANK YOU!!

bom_noite - It sounds like you had a good trip partially thanks to some wonderful CMs! I am hoping to get the character breakfast since Goofy is ds's favorite and Max is not someone we have had a chance to see! It sounds like we will not need to worry about getting a good meal while there! THANK YOU!!

helenabear - Thanks for the bump! It seemed to do the trick! :earsgirl:

If anyone else has any input, I'd love to hear from you! I love these boards and the helpful people who read and post here!
