We are going to Knoebel's/Kennywood in the next 10 days, and was wondering if anyone knows if there are coupons available in the area for reduced tickets/admission ??
And any info anyone wants to offer on either park would be great as I've only been to Kennywood once and I've never been to Knoebel's. So any tips/advice to get the most enjoyment out of either park would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yes!! We love Knoebel's!!

This was on their facebook page last week

Check to see if you will be there on a POP day. Those are the only days we go. Food here is very very good! Inexpensive too!

Be sure to ride my favorite ride the merry go round- and grab the rings!! Love that ride!

Knoebel's uses a ticket-based ride system. You can pay for tickets and use those tickets for rides. But they also have bracelets for unlimited rides. Although I'm not sure if the bracelets are an every-day thing, or if they only do it during certain times of the year.

Where are weis markets in the area, how far away from the park and how easy to get too for people from out of town??, and thanks for the info!!!

I know there is a Weis Markets in Danville, which is about 10 miles from the park. It depends which direction you are travelling.

I love, love, love Knoebels. It's really an old time, family park.

Parking is free, they don't care if you bring a cooler or picnic basket and if you have people going who won't ride or only ride a few rides, you can just buy them tickets instead of a wristband. The wristbands, IIRC, are only sold during the week.

I don't know if anyone has heard about this, but the other day Knoebels had a terrible storm pass through and did alot of property damage (by looks from pics nothing really MAJOR). However lots of trees seem to be destroyed from the wind and some damage from trees landing on structures. Also reported large balls of hail coming down.

You can read more and see some pics by going to this webpage at screamscape.

They go thru this with floods all the time they are experts with quick clean ups! Last major flood we went up the day after and the only ride closed was the cars by the bounce house. I live 25min away. It's an awesome park!!

Stop at a Giant Eagle around Pittsburgh (I think there's one right by Kennywood) and buy tickets at the customer service desk there. They usually have tickets for at least $10 less than at the gate.

Kennywood has discounted tickets at Giant Eagle. I think the discount only applies to weekdays though. In years past, there have been coupons on the back of pop cans too, but I'm not sure about this year.

If you plan on going for more than 2 days, it's less expensive to buy a season pass. You can get the details on their website.

If you have smaller children, be sure to check out Idlewild Park as well. It's about an hour from Pittsburgh, near Ligonier.

That's correct. Kennywood is a one day park at most. Very good coasters and kiddie land.

Be sure to visit Primanti Bros. when in the 'burgh!

Love Kennywood! I've been going there since I was little. Best tips for that park -- when you get there, go straight for the rides at the back of the park and work your way towards the front. Also, make sure to save room for the Potato Patch fries.

I found Knoebels campground to be crowded with extremely small campsites. Also, when we went we were told there was a pool. But the pool for the campground is a wading pool at best, and was in disrepair. However, if you wanted to spend $11 you could use the pool at the amusement area.:headache:

So, we won't be back. I just didn't see the wonderfulness of it. It was clean, it was nice for the younger kids, now granted it bend about 4 years since we went, but I didn't get the love. :confused3

I hadn't heard that. They must have cleaned up pretty good because Kelly Earnhardt(yes that 1) took her girls yesterday and raved about how beautiful it is on FB last night.

Boy do i miss Knoebels. And I would love to hit Kennywood 1 of these years too.

You can roll a whole cooler into Kennywood, with all of your drinks and picnic food. If you stay until closing, prepare to sit in traffic for a while. The tunnel had one lane closed going West on 376 (don't know how long that will last), so if you want to head in that direction, get on the highway at exit 74. I think the Giant Eagle tickets are good on weekends during June, but not July or August and not for all weekdays in July and August.

Knoebels opened the morning after the storm with minimal closures due to the "family" of dedicated workers who show up (often w/o being called) to help clean things up whenever a storm/flood rolls through.

There is a teeny tiny Weis Markets on Main St in Catawissa which is about 10 min from the park, but I would call to see if they have the tickets since they are so small (seriously, it's just a little larger than a Wawa!).

Because of it's location, the only parking for Knoebels is in the field next to the park. Parking is free, admission is free, and they have free picnic tables available (many shaded) between the parking lot and park if you get there early enough to park a cooler on it ;). Take a look at the rides and how long you plan on being there, then decide whether the handstamp/bracelet or tickets would be a better choice. Keep in mind that Knoebels tickets never expire, in case you don't use them all (this is only good for the regular ride booklets, not special tickets given out for company picnics). Be aware that most of the park is gravel, so I recommend sneakers instead of sandals/flip flops.

I highly recommend eating Cesari's pizza, funnel cakes, ice cream from The Mill, and fresh cut french fries from the stand next to the Alamo. To take home I usually buy caramel corn, sugar waffles (from Totem Treats in Kiddie Land-they're like a crunchy funnel cake), and some type of fudge from Stony Gables :goodvibes. **Note: Do not buy the fudge early in the day unless you have a cooler to put it in!
