Looking for great knives/cutlery

I have several Henckel knives that I really like. Paring knife, boning knife, 10" Chefs knife, and a carving knife. They're 30 years old and still as good as new. DH has them professionally sharpened once or twice a year. They've never seen the inside of a dishwasher and have their own drawer in the kitchen.

I have Henckles, and they're good. I do need to get them professionally sharpened though. I do love the kitchen shears.

My sister swears by Cutco. If I have to hear one more time about those dumb knives.

Hate to admit, most of mine are a no-name set I got as a wedding gift. I really should upgrade, probably to some of the better German or Japanese models. I do have a few OXO brand knives that get a lot of use, that I think are decent quality and good value.

Not a fan of Cutco. Too overpriced and I don't like the way they're marketed. IMO, the company takes advantage of their sales force who are mostly naive college students.

I have a Victorinox Fibrox chef's knife. It's great, plus it's not crazy expensive. It's highly rated too. For every day steak knives, mine were imported from Italy and they are still sharp after using them for the last 20 years or so. You can find them on the cooking with nonna website.

Thanks everyone...

Love this piece!

Except for one thing... NO paring knife? I use mine constantly!!!!

Maybe they are my go-to because I am a smaller woman with smaller hands???
I only use my large knives when truly necessary for the task!

We took a knife class taught by a professional a few years ago, and he also didn't think much of paring knives. I have since learned to use a larger knife for most tasks, BUT I still require a paring knife for some tasks because my hand is smaller and my fingers only go so far.

I love my Cutco, but they were a wedding gift, so we didn't have to experience the sticker shock that goes along with their purchase. 20+ years later and they are still like new and I use them every day.

I have Global and Wusthof and the Global are my favorite.
Eta: This knife is my favorite. http://www.amazon.com/Global-GS-5-i...1_11?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1462236463&sr=1-11
Thanks so much, pumpkinmomma.
Global hasn't been on my radar, at all. But now I am looking at these.
Can you give me more thoughts on why you like the Global better.
The feel, weight, sharpness, etc...

They look really nice... but when I look up the steak knives, I hear that they do not seem to be quite as good as the kitchen knives?
Maybe because they have some fine serration to them???? Which I am used to.

We have a nice Wusthof set. Came with a sharpening tool. Don't buy any "celebrity chef" crap.

I feel that way too, but a few years ago I asked for nice knifes for Christmas and someone got me a set of Paula Deen Knifes. I kind of did an eye roll inside, but they have been really nice knifes. I was surprised.

I don't know about her products... But I like Paula Deen!
I would insert a cool picture of when I met her at a meet-and-greet, but I am not sure how to insert an image from Shutterfly.
Saw her at Christmas, and she was all decked out like a Christmas Queen/Mrs. Clause.

We did a kitchen remodel about three years ago and got new stuff too. All Clad and Wusthof Classic. Love love love the AC, don't know why we didn't do it years ago. Knives are DH's domain, he sharpens them regularly too. I use the small ones!

We originally had Chicago Cutlery and Revere Wear. Ha. Had some Cutco, but gave that to our daughter. Kept the steak knives though, they are decent.

Easiest way to address this question.

Go to Sur la Tab
