I have no clue what cut of pork to get for pulled pork. Any suggestions would be great.

I use a Boston butt portion of the pork cuts. It works great! I make mine with Coke or RC Cola in the crock pot, then shred it and add Bullseye BBQ sauce, then put back in the crock pot to finish. The Coke gives the meat a smoky flavor. Sounds odd, but it really works!

How long do you cook it in the crockpot? Do you just put the pork in, dump cola (a whole can?) over it and that's it?

Yep, that's about it. I cook it overnight, and then in the morning I take it out of the crockpot, pull it apart (it shreds nicely), and then put it in ziplock bags for later. I'm guessing you could just cook it about 6-8 hrs. on low temp, and it should be okay. I always brown my roast first before putting it in the crock pot. I just like the meat to have a little browning on it that way before cooking it in the crock pot.

Has this helped?

Zandy595 - You are so lucky that you live in SE Florida. Are you in Boynton Beach...I think we may have run into each other before online? The reason I say that is one of my former co-workers gave me her secret pulled pork recipe. So, SHH...don't tell anyone........

Buy a pork shoulder at Winn Dixie or Publix. Buy one bottle of Tom's BBQ sauce and one bottle of Blue Front BBQ sauce. They are local sauces and compliment each other.

Put just the pork, skin and all, into your crock pot. Believe it or not, I put NO spices on it. I cook mine overnight on low for at least 10 hours. When you stick it with a fork, you want it to fall apart.

Take it out of the pot, throw out the grease and fat. Let the meat cool enought to be able to shred with your fingers. Return it to the pot and stir in the two bottles of BBQ sauce. You are ready to serve. The sauces have spices in them and you might find that you don't need salt and pepper...it's all up to your personal taste.

Now if you really want to do it the southern way...buy some coleslaw. When you make you sandwiches, top the meat with a big scoop of slaw.

Good luck,

Thank you both!

happylady ~ I think we have talked on the boards before. We used to live in Lake Worth, but moved to Stuart 3 years ago. My DB lives in Boynton.

I think I've bought Tom's BBQ sauce before. Is it kinda orange and has a stronger vinegar flavor?
