Happy birthday Lauren!!

thanks for the recommendations on the book. I know those days are coming for me too, Beth still says boys have different equipment than girls. I'm okay with that for now

Hiya all -thanks girls - will look up those books - we need both - the puberty issues and the s - e - x ones are starting to come up a lot lately...... I guess she's growing up and thinking about it more.....

Oh, and Happy birthday to Lauren from this side of the pond too.... you had a nice baby - born in the afternoon!!! Mine were 6.01am and 1.21 am - I'm just waiting for the teenage years when I can wake them up and shout HAPPY BIRTHDAY to them....

We were talking about birthdays the other day, and discovered my eldest will be 12 on 12/12/12 - wonder if that's a good luck omen....

Tessa

Tessa - that is so strange. Nicolas was born at 1:21 am too! What are the odds of that?

Tammie - I hope you are feeling betteer. Yes, kids wreck a house. We now need new carpet, paint, etc. But... I'm giving it a few years or else I will just be redoing it now to redo it again soon.

Tessa - first off, I laughed so hard at the babyoil comment for Kara! :rotfl2: And ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AT 8. :sad2: :scared1: That is like 3 years for me! I'm so not ready for this at ALL! :scared1:

Laura & Cammie - I'll get those books in the future. I'm so not looking forward to this. I sware though, I figured you had to be at least 10-12 before those sort of questions came up!

And, at 1:14 pm today, my baby girl OFFICIALLY turns 13!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LAUREN! :woohoo: So what cha doing today?

Well - I got a call from Nicolas' preschool teacher yesterday. She wanted to know if I was going to send him to Kindergarden next year. He is a May baby and the youngest in his class now. He does very well academically, but he talks a LOT and demands a LOT of attention from everyone. It honestly is his personality. WELL, seems she said he can't complete assignments without needing to tell her something or such, so she is wondering if he will need to repeat K for the maturity, etc.

:sad2: That was a tough talk. I mean, I would hold him back, but at 4 now he weighs 58 lbs, is 4 feet tall, wears a size 6 (some 7's) clothing, and a 2 1/2 shoe. He is BIG. Can you imagine if we hold him back a year how big he will be next to the other kids? Carlos said it is the wrong way to look at it. He said he may be ADD - I don't think so honestly. I think we've just let him get away with interrupting us to much. We need to crack down on that.

Anyway, just not a fun talk.

Oh - and Kara - I'm one of those moms. That thing that you described with the mom - yeah, that is me. Only, I give them 5 minutes to snap out of it - after 5, we leave. Don't ask me why, but for my kids it generally lasts 1 minute or less - when they figure out it doesn't get a rise out of me it stops. :confused3

Actually that technique is what my pediatrician recommends - only he said to give them no attention, so if Mia pitches a fit - I leave the room. STOPS INSTANTLY.

But there is no way I would stay with it going on for 20 minutes. That is just wrong for the other people.

Oh Lorrie - that's always a difficult decision to make. Around here though - teachers don't take the idea of holding kids back lightly; they only recommend it if they really truely believe it's necessary. Would hope Nicholas' preschool would act the same way. He may be doing well academically, but his social behavior could start to affect his academic performance. It always best to make a move like this when they're young - don't think it's as big a deal as it would be if they were older.

And I wouldn't worry about his size. I don't think being the biggest kid in his class has the same stigma for a boy as it would for a girl. I think it would mean no one would mess with him!;)

Lorrie...I taught kindergarten for 12 years so if you want to email me I can tell you all the pros and cons to holding him back. I wouldn't at this point. If his academics are good then they need to just deal with getting him on task. It's not like his birthday is in August!

As for all the pics and designing you guys are talking about.......I love being a part of the process but offer no opinions. I always decorate very old fashion or VERY functional. For example...I have great room and I push all the furniture up against the walls. I like that it looks like a big open space, that it is easier to clean the room that way and that I don't have to tell the kids a hundred times a day NOT to jump over the coach. Well, all people who have any sense of design want me to put the coach in the middle of the room to split the room into two parts.

I also...have yellows and whites and country blues all over my place. Where I live everyone is doing dark walls and dark furniture. Again not my thing and lastly I LOVE oak furniture and I guess oak is completely out right now so......
that is why I don't talk design! LOL!

Kara...all the pix new and old looked VERY nice to me!!! Your place always looks awesome!

I agree with both of you guys on this! I get so mad at my kids that they do get a rise out of me but I can't help it! Then I feel like I look like CRAZY mom all mad at them at the store or the restaurant. There is NO way I would walk around for that long though. Sometimes when I see people doing that sweet surly talk I want to vomit! I can see the ignoring it part or the not buying them anything part but the quiet not losing my temper part I CAN NOT pull off.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LAUREN! :woohoo: So what cha doing today?

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Lauren, you guys! I'll be sure to show her them when she gets home from school.

As for what are we doing - well, my home is being invaded by family from NJ this weekend. I'm expecting at least 6 people to come stay but that number could change. Think they'll be arriving by 1pm, which means Cammie will be having her first cocktail by 1:30!:lmao: We're going out to Lauren's favorite restaurant for dinner then having cake back at the house.

As for today -- the girls and I are going to see the Jonas Brothers concert movie. In 3D. The cute middle brother has a shirtless scene. Did I mention it's in 3D? :3dglasses :teeth:

I don't know who's more excited about this - the girls or me?

I have a small ice cream cake for when we get home. Since the Disney trip was technically her present, she's not having a big "friend" party. Although I did say she could have a sleepover at the end of the month. She has 11 girls on that invite. list. So much for no party.

Oh you sound like me! No party - but if you want to take some friends for pizza

That sounds like a fun day! You kept them out of school today didn't you! You so rock Cammie :worship: Want to adopt me? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Speaking of my mom... Guess who I talked to that didn't bring up Disney. Yeah, I knew that would die out when we didn't offer to pay. :rolleyes1

if beth had to wait until she had her talking and interuptuing under control, she'd never be in school. LOL I think he will be good, especially since he has the academics down. The social thing is what kindergarden really is for.

Oh no - I didn't keep them out of school. The movie is at 5:15; Lauren will be home by 2:30; Amanda by 4.

Girl please - mom needs her day!

Ok so humor me here but ......... I'm looking through old pix because I want to give a baby picture of Lauren to the bakery to scan on her cake. Thought I'd share:

I can't believe she used to be this little:

Some cute pix of Lauren and Amanda when they were babies:

And I always get asked if I ever did anything when Lauren was younger to help her be so comfortable with Amanda. I really never did; can tell you though - this was a familiar pose for the two of them:

I don't know if Lauren thought of her sister as just one big giant pillow but she was always snuggling up with her. Amanda is comfy that way!:cutie: (that hair twirling that Lauren is doing? That is sooooo me!)

Cammie - I LOVE the pictures. You can really see how close the girls have always been. My kids have been like that too and it is so nice. I especially love the one of her kissing Amanda - just too cute that you caught that on film! :)

So which one are you putting on the cake?

I totally agree. I think that worst case scenario, he starts K next year, and if you have to have him repeat it, no big whoop, but I wouldn't hold him back. I don't consider May bdays to be that young. I'm the end of July and I turned out okay! :scared:

Cammie - those pics are so precious!!!!! It's so bittersweet to look back at old pics as they grow up. I love the one with Amanda as raggedy Ann and Lauren as a clown. Too stinkin cute!
