Thank you! AGAIN!!!! This is just plain mentally unhealthy!

Aaaaaarrrrrrgh!!!!! I just heard from Lauren's friends who are trick-or-treating with us tomorrow. Since her mom works (and it doesn't sound like she's getting out too early) they want to come over to my house for dinner and get ready in their costumes - so their babysitter can go home early! She says they don't really know what they're doing and could use my help. Ok, so I now have to get my own two kids ready AND my girlfriends' two kids AND feed them dinner? Have no idea what time the mom is going to show up so for all I know, I'm taking them all out myself!:headache:

Ok - so here's my rant: I can be sympathetic to moms who work, but I really resent having to take on the responsibility of getting other people's kids ready for Halloween. Lord knows what she's even gotten them for their costumes. And now I'm left with putting it all together.

Cassie, I don't blame you! I mean it would be one thing if you called and offered, but just to assume she can just send 'em over - that's just rude.

Is anyone watching Life on Mars? I really like it. Of course, I'm old enough to remember the 70's! LOL

Debbie, I need you guys, too! I am addicted to chatting with my DIS friends! :grouphug:

Have a Happy Halloween everyone!

Hiya all -

thanks Cammie for the London Eye pics - they look really good, made me look forward to it even more now.... -the special Halloween trip on it is IN THE DARK!! so you see London lit up - and the kids take part in a little story where the wizard has lost his spells and they have to use the clues to find them, before a big finale at the top.... so, we shall see....

I am NOT good with heights, but figure that in the dark it won't be so bad - also, we are doing it on Saturday, when there are likely to be loads of firework displays to look at too... Guy Fawkes night here is 5th Nov, so fireworks displays and bonfires spread over the next 2 weeks...

Potted history - Guy Fawkes was a man who tried to blow up the houses of parliament a few centuries ago - he was caught and failed (then had the usual hung , drawn and quartered punishment - yeugh - involves watching your own steaming entrails being drawn from your just living body....) , so now we burn an effigy of him on a bonfire and contribute to global warming by having big firework displays, some people set them off at home too.. contributing to the local casualty (ER??) department having to pay staff lots of overtime for the next 2 weeks.

Well, got to go, taking the girls to see HSM today (we go to London tomorrow). Hubby doesn't want to go see it (strange...) says he prefers his popcorn without "cheese" Cheeky!

Tessa

Tessa, now there's a Halloween story for ya. Hope you and the girls have a really fun weekend!

missed a lot in the past few days. Finally Tim is out of the house at Physical Therapy. Ahhh the peace. I can get some things done. Like getting on the DIS. All of the important things.

We are getting an American Girl store at the Mall of America. beth is just starting to get into them.

Haven't had to the full "talk" yet either but we have had to explain that boys and girls have different equipment. Skated thru where did Katherine come from and how did she get out of your tummy. She was 4 when Katherine was born so she was convinced that she came out of my belly button. I figured good enough for now. I know it is coming but I want to bury my head in the sand.

We will trick or treat around our place for bit tonight then head to a friends for a party. They have tons of kids in the neighborhood so it should be a good time.

I like the Britishisms, too! "Cheeky!" ;)

OK, just had a minor scare. My neighbor took Ally to school today with her kids, and then offered to pick them up, too. Cool! :thumbsup2 Until all hell broke loose. She called me to say that her youngest and Ally must have gotten on the bus because they weren't out front for parent pickup. So I flagged down the bus driver when he came by and he said he didn't have any of our kids on the bus. So I emailed Ally's teacher and she emailed right back telling me that Ally DID go to parent pickup. Oy vey! so I called the school and neither of them were in the front office waiting. Double Oy vey!

Finally, we found them. They had wandered back to the neighbor boy's class for something. Anyway, my neighbor finally found them both - luckily they stuck together, Ally was just being sweet and going with Kyle back to his class with him. Even though I KNEW she was at school somewhere, my heart still fell for a minute or two there.

Cammie - I totally think you're right to feel taken advantage of. It's just rude to "assume" something like that.

Had a blast at the Halloween party last night! And guess who was there???

ELHalloweenParty2.jpg

And look! She really is one of us - she's drinking a Bud Light! :rotfl2:

I messed up my setting on my camera, but I just wanted to post this to show how cool it looked up by the pool. They really did a great job of decorating for this!!!

Oh, so glad the kids are OK, that's so scary (even if your gut says they are OK, still :scared1: )
I went to DD's school, the 4th graders were decorating New york state cookies. It was really cool. They were giant sugar cookies shaped like NY. They frosted them green, then blue for the lakes and rivers, chocolate chips for the mountain areas and M&Ms for the magor cities. It was fun.
First I had lunch with DD9 and DD6. I had made them spooky lunches and the kids thought taht was cool. Nothing too major, but thye liked it. They had peanut butter and blood sandwiches (strawberry jelly of course), eyeballs (grapes), bones with slime (cracker breadsticks with cheese), and cupcakes that the spiders got into (Frosted like spiderwebs with spider rings), and I got them those Halloween Jones sodas, I never get those, so it was a treat! Each thing had a post it saying what they were and of course a not taht said 20 days till we leave... (they get one every day in their lunch.)
Bad thing ws I went to take a picture and my camera was broken!!! I jsut got it a year ago. What bad timing. DH thinks he may be ableto fix it, but not positive. I was saying what am I going to do without my camera for Halloween, and then DISNEY??? He said, what kind of husband wouldn't buy you a new camera for Disney? I didn't mean to imply that he wouldn't, just that he shouldn't, but he said if it isn't something he can fix he will order it again tonight. I love this camera, but I am nervouls to buy another if it only lasted a year??? But maybe it is no big deal, I am hoping. He'd very good at repairs on things like that, so here's hoping.

Anyway, I am off. We have had something every night this week, so we have to do pumpkins tonight. I am going to go clean them all out (noramaly they do it but we are cutting it close here) so they can come home and carve. I like to do all Disney characters, but I think just one this year, probably Mickey (and maybe Ariel, we'll see), we are short for time and DH can't do any, he is having carpal tunnel surgery Wednesday, so his hands are in too much pain to help.

Have a good Halloween...

MickeyMomofThree - Love your lunch idea!!!! That is so clever! And here's hoping hubby can fix the camera.

We didn't carve a single pumpkin this year. How terrible are we? My favorite part is toasting the pumpkin seeds! I did this a couple of years ago and Ally loved them!!!

Cammie - last night was nothing!!! They usually have a keg at these shindigs but not last night. Times must REALLY be tough! But I went out and bought beer to load in the cooler for the golf cart tonight! :thumbsup2

Speaking of tough times, I was talking with a neighbor last night who has been a SAHM for 12 years. Her husband is a financial somethingorother, and she just went back to work in order to pay for their kids private school. She's working 20 hrs/week now and needs to go full time in order to get the tuition cut in half. You KNOW it's bad when a fiancial dude sends his wife back to work. And you should see the big fat house they have!!! Jeff and I were trying to figure that out. TWO kids in private school, another in high school, a 4800 sq ft house and only one income. That must be one heckuva income!!! But apparently everyone is getting nervous.

I've been home the entire time we have been married (15 years). We always thought we'd be able to keep things this way, but it is getting tough. I'm not going to think about it till after the holidays, but then I am going to have to find something. I just need to find a job that gives me school vacations and summer off, so I am thinking school district, but our district went through major budget cuts this year (closed a school, by the way, ours) so there is not much hiring going on, but you never know. I am very nervous though, I haven't had a job (except some seasonal work at Disney Store 10+ years ago) since high school. I am sure once I get over the nervousness I will be ok, but I am not even going to worry about it till New Years. My kids are not in private schools though and no big house (1000 sf).

About the pumpkins, my kids love the seeds too, I will be making a bunch of them to munch on in the car to Disney. I don't think it's awful that you didn't get to carve pumpkins, weekends are good but with Halloween on Friday, if we had done them the squirrels would have eaten them (we have tons around here). Life is just so busy. Next year will be nice with Halloween on a Saturday, we will have pleanty of time during the day to carve them. I figure next year I will teach DD6 to do Pumpkin Masters, she will be at a good age and we will have lots of time to do it.

OK, kids wil lbe home soon, and we have lots to get done. I think I may run to the store for more candy. We had 196 pieces but after my camera broke I consoled myself with a Heath bar and a Twix, so we are down to 194. I think that is enough, but it is a nice night and being a Friday, I think we might be busy. I hate to have tons left over, but last year we ran out (had to take stuff from the kids bags, but I took the stuff they didn't want.)

Have a good evening...

So Lauren and I are starting to get dressed in our costumes: She and her two friends are the Jonas Brothers (Lauren is Nick) and the mom and I are being their crazy fans. I'm wearing one of her oversized t-shirts from their concert and, I must say, I do enjoy looking down and seeing their faces across my chest!:goodvibes

HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!

SUPER COOL!!!!! How long will it take you to get there?
Erin, have FUN!!!!! You're so cool!!! :cool1:
Oooh - Erin, you're such a fun mom! Have a great time and I can't wait to hear all about it! You better come back here with pictures!:thumbsup2

I have tried to do this post 3 times and i keep getting thrown off so am writing much quicker this time :lmao:

Here is a mini trip breakdown
Spent most of Monday packing in secret which was difficult as Chloe was home because of school holidays so woke her up at 5 a.m tues morning and asked her if she would like to go to Disneyland Paris and she replied with "You what?" hahah so i repeated and finally got a very shocked and snoozy answer of "YESSSS PLEEEASSSEEE" .. My folks picked us up at 5.30 and we drove to folkestone to get on the train on the Eurotunnel (which i have never done) and 45 mins later we were in calais, then drove for 3 1/2 hours to paris and we were driving around looking (or so i thought) for the car park turning when we saw TOWER OF TERROR :yay: so much screaming ensued then and all of a sudden my dad was turning into 1 of the Disney hotel's (i thought we were staying in a B and B) so am saying just tell the guy we need to turn round when my dad says yes we have a reservation :yay: Cj and i were soooo excited ... Then spent every waking moment until 3.30 yesterday at the Disney parks .. My folks have never been there before so cj really enjoyed showing them around

Here's a few piccies

too cool! Ahh to live so close. I love the tunnel. That looks like one heckva thing. Granted I've never left the united states.

Halloween was good. Working on getting pics posted.

The financial thing scares me too. Tim's in the middle of swapping jobs. A bit scary when the company you are going to is doing lay-offs. But the account he is up for is a big one so they definately need a person and don't want anyone else within the company. I'll share more once it is done I just don't want to jinx it.

Kara, that is so scary - glad the kids are okay. Your party looks so fun! I want to live at your house! :goodvibes The pool really was done up cool! Ally looks so cute in her costume:cutie: somehow she looks taller.

MickeyMom, I hope you don't have to get a new camera. My camera did the same thing this year - just got it for Mother's Day last year. I have been reading that many digital cameras have the lens getting stuck and it costs more to fix them than to get a new one. Jim (my DH) tried to fix mine, but it just became a pile of parts :rotfl2: Hope your hubby's surgery goes well!

Erin, what fun!!! Looks like you had a wonderful weekend! I'm so glad you kept the "cat in the bag" so DD was surprised!

Cammie, your costumes sound fun! Pictures, we want pictures! How did it go with taking your friend's kids?

Laura, hope the job swap goes well.

The kids took Myles and Londynn to a huge Harvest Party they have here with lots of games and candy - they came home pooped!

Ryan and Dana brought little Mason over dressed like a puppy! So cute! :) I'll have to post his pic tomorrow. They went to a costume party - Dana was dressed like a sexy ladybug - so cute! I'll post her pic, too! So Mason is spending the night in our room tonight.

I missed most of the trick or treaters cuz I waited until late afternoon to put a huge order in - the money wasn't coming out right, so I had to re-work it, and then the computer dumped all 16 of the credit cards I was putting in and I had to start over. It was going so well at first, and then it ended up taking me 4 hrs to do it. :upsidedow

We didn't have many kids tonight. I expected more than last year, because our neighbors put up a huge Halloween display, and they are on a corner, so I thought it would draw more kids. We don't have street lights, though, so if a few houses are dark, it makes the whole street seem really dark.
We have mostly older people on our street.

Have a happy Saturday everyone!
