thanks for the poll debbie, I wish I had warned you about how those things usually turn out. And actually there where not that many flames thrown this time around. I think dh is coming around, he just does not want dd to fall behind. I just feel like it is the 1st grade and she does so much better one on one anyways. I did go on disney's website to see if our room would be available for the 1st week of may and it wasn't! So now I have a new worry. I thougt that would be a slow time, but there were no 1 br villas available at VWL or BCV. What is going on I wonder?

I took my older DD out for a week when she was in 1st grade and they didn't give us anything for her to do. She just picked up when she got back. In 2nd grade, she was diagnosed with an Auditory Processing Disorder (her hearing is fine..it's the processing fo the words and all the competing noises that are a problem..forgetfulness is also a huge issue). She does better a littl emore one on one too, Even with that, I'd STILL take her out of school for a week.

Debbie, some people just want to be crabby:headache: I'm so glad we have a friendly group here. I have unsubscribed to alot of other threads because people got so negative. I like positive :yay:

About the topic in question, I took our sons out of school for WDW at the end of May in 6th and 8th grade. They did homework a couple of afternoons in the room while we swam or napped. The problem was, when they got back, the teachers had changed assignments on them and didn't notify them, so they got incompletes, etc. Their grades were not good at the end of the year - but, it didn't hurt them - who sees their grades anyway? It's not like they are getting a college scholarship at that time. Their test scores are what they get placed on. I guess my older son missed the honor role that term, but he really didn't care compared to a trip to WDW. I don't regret the wonderful memories we made.

He graduated from high school and college and is just fine - WDW trip and all :rotfl: My younger son played sports, finished high school, is a Junior in college and is just fine, too!

What ever you do, make those memories - they are with you for such a short time

My parents took me out of high school (11th grade) to go to Hawaii for 2.5 weeks. (It was 2 whole weeks and like 3 school days). I was good for the 2 weeks, but because of school policy they had to deduct 3% off my grade for that quarter for each day beyond the 2 weeks. So I lost 9% off each grade. Thank goodness I had really good grades. It was sooooo worth it though and I'd do it again in heartbeat. I still ended up with mostly B's in that quarter and still ended up with a final grade of an A in Chemistry and Geometery. I graduated just fine and went to college and I learned a lot about Hawaii. People take their kids out of school around here ALL the time..to go skiing in Colorado, WDW, Shopping in NYC, the Carribean, cruises, etc. The schools don't like it because attendance ties into money or accreditation or something related with that.

See, we just found out that dd has PDD NOS and that is why she is struggling in school, she does not have a LD or anything like that, it is just that she does bettter in a smaller enviroment. And I figured since our ds will have to nap everyday it would be the perfect time for her to do work and get a little extra help from mom and dad. I think he is convinced now we just have to work on getting the room we want and switching all our ressies, we got some really good ones too! Thanks again for all the reassurance. :goodvibes

Hey Deb, the original picture you had with your signature had Tigger in the middle, and his arm was around your husband. He wasn't trying to attack you husband was he?:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hi everyone....
Everything is good over here in the Windy City...

I am stressing myself a bit about where DD is going to school next year but hopefully it will all work out. It would be a 4 year old program.

Everyone seems to be feeling better.
That's the best news!

I wanted to second this comment -- make memories when you can for kids grow up so quickly. For the next thing you know, they'll be like my DS - 8 but thinks he's 18.

We've taken DS out of school for Disney trips (usually in early Dec.). He's missed anything from 2 to 5 days at a time, and he's done fine. Granted, this was for grades pre K-2. We were upfront with his teachers, and requested assignments in advance. He did most of the school work on the plane flights to and from. Every night before bed, I had him either draw or write about something he had done that day in a trip journal. I've taken the pages from these journals and scrapbooked them, along with character autographs and photos from the trip.:goodvibes
Now as an "old man" of 8, DS laughes at what he thought was great "when he was little." He knows I will have a journal ready and waiting for him for our next trip (shhh, he still doesn't know about March), but asked not to do autographs again - "Aww Mom, that stuff is for little kids..." I guess I can let him slide - I'll just send DH to get the autographs...;)

Got the arrow, and heart thingy working! Thanks Deb!:thumbsup2

Hi everyone! We got in late last night. We had fun and I have lots of stories to tell. I will post more later. Nice to see more newcomers!

ETA...I missed you guys while I away! I had some moments when I needed to vent and I wished I had a computer so I could chat with you! No more vacations with in-laws for me.

I missed you Maureen! Glad you're back safe and sound. Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!! I was very jealous of you all week.
Debbie

Welcome, back!!! I hope you had a great time! I can't wait to hear all about it. Hope you took some good pics too. I totally understand about not taking the inlaws again. As nice as mine are, we took them once and they took us to Nags Head, NC once and well...we don't have the same vacationing style, to be nice.

Hi guys! Great threads. We need a little fun in our day of worrying. Actually, I didn't worry too bad this weekend. We kept busy. And the Disney on Ice show was so fun.
Debbie- I can't believe I know some of the shows you had on the poll. I loved Out of the Box and PB & J. I must have put them on when the nephews were over. Or when I wanted to feel like a kid. I don't remember.
I also loved the pix of kids sleeping. So....cute.
Pam- DD & I watched the funny dogs over and over and she kept singing Who Who Who Who. Thanks for that. My nephew is an animal lover. He used to say he was going to own a zoo someday. He loves dogs the most. He tries to take video of his dog doing funny things. I love dogs but don't want to take care of one yet. Maybe when DD is older.
Maureen - So glad you're back. It's good that you had some fun. I will be going to Disney w/my sisters and aunt & uncle and I think that will be tough enough. At least I can tell my family how I feel. It's not as easy w/inlaws.

Hi, wanted to introduce myself. Going to Disney in 3 days and I am so stressed. My twin 4 yr old daughters have had colds. They are on antibiotics. Their entire pre-school is sick with either a cold or the stomach bug. Since it is only pre-school, I have kept them home quarrantined for the past week. The weather forecast looks like rain. I hate to fly. etc.

We have been planning this for a year. I am so excited for my kids to see Disney. I cried watching the Chrismas parade on tv. I cry in the disney store, I cry watching the commercials. I just can't wait to go, but I am just so nervous something is going to ruin it. On Sat my DD threw up and all I could think about was that she would have the stomach bug, give it to her sister and we would either have to cancel or modify our plans.

Is this normal?
Thanks for letting me vent!
Wendy:scared:

:cool1:  I am so excited right now! Dh called last night to change out trip from Easter to the first week of May!!! We were still able to get all of our ADRs and the same room at VWL. I am so much more excited about the trip now. Plus ds will be 1 month older and at his age every month counts! Thank you all for your positive post on kids missing school for the vacation. I think it really helped dh change his mind. I think it was more just that he is ready to go now and does not want to wait another month! But I am so glad to be going at a slower time! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Welcome, Wendy! Yes, it is normal. You spend so much money and time in planning an awesome vacation and you're afraid something will ruin it. I hate flying too. Flying there is filled with anxiety, but you're too tired to worry about it on the way home. The stomach bug going on around here is a 24 hr one..so hopefully your kids will be good to go when you leave. I hope it all works out well for you! Vent anytime you want..we are all good listeners.

Lisa...hi!! I forgot you went to Disney On Ice! We went a few years ago and really liked it. Hope you all had fun.

Jaclyn.....whoohoo..you get to go earlier!!! Glad your DH changed his mind. I can't wait until June..it's too far away!!!

Tammie...hi!!

Debbie, I tried to post in your poll, but my computer or the DIS was having a computer freeze. I may have posted or maybe it didn't show, but I miss all the shows. I Tivo Bear.
