Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too (Part 2)

Pam - I would also agree that you should take your DD to the Dr only because the trip is so close. Also, I found out that strep is not only a nuisance and a pain (literally) but the virus can attack other organs, including the heart. So I wouldn't mess with that one.

And no, I don't design any of those things - I use the wonderful DISers on the design board. Our bonus room upstairs is Disney designed, and I've printed out invitations for all of the Disney restaurants where we have eaten, and created a border effect around the room, by framing them all and hanging right below the ceiling. Looks pretty neat!

Cammie - good for you on the airfare. I was so surprised when I called today that they had both days I wanted totally open for 1900 PF - I thought I'd be out of luck. Hopefully it will nice and "quiet" while we're there!

BTW, I'm a very creative shopper! Just ask Jeff, I find all sorts of creative ways to say, "Oh this old thing? I've had it forever!" :rotfl2:

BTW I am flying to WDW in September via TED...Did you hear United is eliminating Ted??:scared1:

Oh no, Debbie! What will happen to you flights????

BTW, this no shopping thing is working out great! My pantry is dwindling down little by little, so much so in fact, that I had to rearrange it because I was finding things I didn't know were in there! I plan to do this every so often (no pantry shopping) because it not only saves money, but it really helps with the cluttered pantry! Good call Debbie!

I figured out that I've only spent $30 over the last week and a half at the grocery store!!!!!

Oh No...they are eliminating Ted? Now what?

Thanks for the advice on taking them to the Dr. With my first DD I'd always take her the 1st or 2nd day she was sick no matter what (out of worry), but now I usually wait a little bit to see where it goes. Scary that strep can do things to your organs! Looks like all 3 of us will be headed to the Dr. tomorrow. Spent several hours at the Centra Care clinic last summer on vacation. I thought I had strep (and they gave me antibitoics) but it was a virus. The culture was negative, but she says I had a lot white goop in the back.

Kara...I bet your bonus room looks awesome! They are really talented over at that board aren't they?!

I am praying to the dear Lord above that either 1) they will finish off the scheduled TED flights or 2)they change our flight to a United,

Even scarier they said that using miles is going to become obsolete!

My PANTRY AND FRIDGE ARE DOWN TO NOTHING TOO BUT NOW DH WILL GO ON A SHOPPING SPREE BECAUSE I AM GONE!!!

I better say BYE girls! I will miss you ALL! If you see my little green lite on maybe I got my hands on a computer!

Think of me......

What do you mean do away with using miles????? I've got 40,000 miles I'm saving for our trip to Jamaica next year!

I really think that the airlines need to do away with flights to/from the smaller airports. I know this sucks if you don't live in a big city, but it makes sense. When I was a kid, I lived in Kansas City, and we had nearly an hour drive to the airport cause it was waaaaaaaay on the other side of town. So maybe folks need to drive a couple of hours to an airport, it's a small price to pay to keep prices down. I lived in Greenville, SC for 14 years and they have probably the nicest "small" airport I've ever seen. But they are only 1 1/2 hrs from Charlotte (a USAir hub) and 2 1/2 hrs to Atlanta (the largest or 2nd largest depending on the day! ) airport! Also, Asheville, NC has an airport only 1 hr away, and Columbia, SC is only 1 1/2 hrs away. Do we really need 5 airports when 2 would do? And by closing those other three, those cities would still only be 1-3 hrs from a MAJOR airport. I don't know, just me rambling. And the funny thing is, I live in the 13th largest city in the US and Jacksonville is not a hub for any airline so it's virtually impossible to get a non-stop flight anywhere. Weird, huh?

You know I was going to mention earlier how well I had been doing with our grocery challenge. I hadn't done a big "food shop" since the friday of Memorial Day weekend; went just once over the last two weeks and spent a little under $20 for milk, juice, cheese, bread, and fruit. Just went this afternoon to restock a little: spent close to $80 but I needed paper goods and cleaning products too. My meals are pretty much set now for the next 8 or 9 days. If I really stretch it (insist on soup some nights for dinner) I may not need to do another major shop before our trip!:thumbsup2

It's nice to dwindle down the fridge and freezer before any trip. But then those first couple of days back are a little tricky, until you get to the store.

OK, just found 2 more scorpions!!! Luckily, it was right as Jeff was pulling in the driveway so he was able to act as our knight in shining armor! :rotfl2: I may need to call the exterminator back. I think one of them came in with the mail though. I'm so scared of creepy crawly things that I won't even get the mail. So Ally gets it - my brave little girl! :rotfl2:

She's off to the ENT with Daddy now. Just keeping my fingers crossed for good news!

Oh, and the consensus at Jeff's office is to coat her head with mayonnaise and put a shower cap over it, then let her sleep with it on overnight. No more lice! I think we've got them all now anyway, but they just seem to reappear so we're gonna do the mayo trick tonight and be done with it - hopefully! It's crazy though the way everyone down here is familiar with it. My hair stylist told me that it's a big problem here, and obviously she's right!

Anyone around for DP tonight?

ONe thing we've started doing is to grill out a couple of extra chicken breasts on the weekend, and use them in salads. We do grilled chicken salads a couple of times each week in the summer. Speaking of salads, our clubhouse just changed their menu and now they have a Caribbean salad - mixed greens, mandarin oranges, grapes, dried cranberries, yellow raisins, walnuts, cheese (I think feta or gorgonzola, can't remember!) with a honey lime vinagrette! Oh, I was in heaven - truly the BEST salad I've ever had - of course I had them add grilled chicken to make it a meal.

Or, when they're on sale, I buy those Perdue short cuts(just the grilled or roasted flavors). They're pretty good; I always throw them into a pasta salad or a green salad.

Just found this on the disigns boards and thought it about sums up our days from time to time!

just late checking in. Tim is working from home again. good luck with the trip Debbie!

Life is just a little crazy. I haven't wanted to do anything. Hopefully I will get back on track next week. School is out and I need to ge t motivated.

Jillian - did you see the Mulan and horse design that Natalie added?

No I will have to check that out.

Ok - first Kara is making her own taco seasoning. Now we've got Tina making her kids clothes.

God, I feel like such a loser!

I will join that boat with you. I can't sew at ALL. Macy's is where I buy everything.

OOOhhh...have to ask you other moms out there....about Strep. DD only ever had it once in 1st grade. (She's in 6th now) DD12 has had a sore throat, headache, tired, stuffy, but also runny nose and a fever for 6-7 days. At first it was hard to swallow, and still alittle bit, Fever is gone. Neither of us have white patches on the back of our throat, just red. Normally, I treat most things as a virus because that's what they usually are. Do you think it's about time I take her to be seen by a Dr.? I guess if they test her for strep then I'll know that we probably have it too. She is going to hate me for it though. Last time, they literally had to PIN her down to get the swab culture.

Take DD to the doctor. There is a virus going around now that sounds very familiar to the Symptoms you are describing, but it is leading to strep.

Went to my brothers graduation and I cried my eyes out. I can't believe he is going to college.

Kara- I actually have heard of the Mayo trick and it smothers the live lice. Also the warm weather keeps the them alive longer.

Hi Pam! I will be intersted to see what the doc says - of course I am not a doc, but I slept at a Holiday Inn :rotfl2: and worked for pediatricians. My inclination is that because the fever is down and her throat is less sore, she is turning the corner - you are usually sick for 7 to 10 days with a virus. However, like someone said, (Jillian, I think) people are more susceptable to strep if they have another virus when exposed, and it can become bacterial. You don't want your trip ruined. I'm one of those moms who never took my kids to the doc until something was way apparent - sometimes got a good talking to because I waited too long. :duck:

The babies are fine! Myles is getting to be a big boy 3 1/2. Mason just turned 1 in May - he's pretty quiet except at meal time when he screams between bites - pretty funny! He's crawling and walking around stuff, but to cautious to really walk. Londynn is 10 mos, finally getting some blond hair to go with her blue eyes like her daddy. She's crawling and walking along stuff, stands and tries to take steps. I'll give her about 2 weeks. She has a great sense of humor already and chatters constantly - says alot of words already.

I went to Atlanta in April for a convention, and we are headed to DL in 3 weeks! :dance3: Your trip is really close! :woohoo:

That would be 5 hrs for us - and we are often completely snowed in here in the Winter because of the mountains. :worried:

Tina! Have fun with all that cute fabric! I too am a homemaker loser. I can't cook, don't sew much (except my grandaughters bedding, which you can see in our last thread from last July) and I kill all the plants, too! :goodvibes

Hi Laura, Jillian, Debbie if you get here, Keahi, Tessa, Erin, Cammie - everyone else! Happy Saturday!

Hi Laura, Jillian, Debbie if you get here, Keahi, Tessa, Erin, Cammie - everyone else! Happy Saturday!

Ha! I forgot to mention my gardening abilities also -- maybe because I don't have any! Like you, Tammie, I seem to kill them also! I have some beautiful landscaping on my property and it's all courtesy of the previous owners. The most I do is change the flowers in my pots at the front door seasonally. They seem to do ok.

And, Tammie, how fun to have all those grandbabies around! I hope you get to see them as much as you want. I really miss my nephew - he just turned one. My DB and DSIL just aren't up to making the drive up here like they used to. It's sad - my sister and I try to make the effort to compromise and travel so we can all see each other; they're the exception. They're first time parents - everything is SO HARD to them. My sis and I just roll our eyes!

Well, it's going to be a scorcher around here for the next few days - the 3 Hs: hazy, hot and humid! Temps are going to be above 95 through tues. It's days like this that I really wish I had a pool! AC is going on today baby! Having dinner at a friend's new house tonight; but will check back in later.

Have a good Saturday ladies!

Hey guys - quick question. Rather than have Lauren carry around her money, I was thinking of getting gift cards from the Disney store. Do you know if you can use them to pay for snacks and drinks throughout the park?
