Looking for a home for 2 wonderful cats..Update: The boys have a home!

I have used www.siameserescue.org for my three latest cats. Obviously they handle Siamese only. My two latest are a bonded pair that were at a foster for almost ten months as most people want to adopt kittens and these were about 8-9 years old and because they were a bonded pair the society required they be adopted together.

You might contact them to see if they could advise you of some similar organizations who could handle them for you.

Toby is 14½ pounds and a Siamese/lynx while Ashley, at 8 pounds, is basically seal point but her paws are pure white. (Do you know how hard it was to get them to pose like that?)

But would they only want Max? I cannot separate them...

not sure. She is looking for a cat because her cat just passed away.. maybe they would be willing to take 2 especially if they are siblings.. if not I posted it on the horse board so hopefully someone esle will see it...they are very good at finding homes for animals!

If you don't get any response from here, you might want to check out your local freecycle. Ours will allow pet postings and you will be able to reach a large local population. I swear you can get rid of anything at all on freecycle! :thumbsup2

Hope you find a loving home for your kitties soon!

Our rescue group that I am a part of, will put up on our PetFinder site, cats that are owned by people other than us. We put their pictures and their story. We would put the owners phone number and a disclaimer that they are responsible, not us. If you have a rescue group, ask if that is possible. Put your zipcode on petfinder, put in cat as the species of animal, and email each one (or call) in your area.
If you find someone willing to take them, and need help with the s/n and vaccs, ask the rescue groups if they can help you out. Most of us have various programs where we have grant money to help out.
Just curious..how far are you from Albany, NY?

They are adorable. I love that they are so close. We already have two sibling cats and can't take in anymore.

I also recommend the Billerica Cat Coalition. My neighbor works with them. They are wonderful.

Good luck and thank you for trying to find them homes together. We rescued our sibling pair together and I can't imagine them being separated.

I'm not sure exactly about Albany, but when I went to Manhattan it was about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive. Sorry if Manhattan and Albany are nowhere near each other but my wife is the driver of the two of us and I have no clue about these things.

If nothing else pans out I will look into this, I have looked on petfinder many times in the past.

I hope you find a loving home for those wonderful 2 kitties. I've gotten 2 separate sibling sets over the years. I have 11 kitties and, thusly, can't take anymore in.

I can't take them- but thank you so much for saving them from such a bad situation. Also (and I didnt' read the whole thread) be careful adopting them out so close to Halloween- especially the little black one......

Please see if you can find a clinic that will neuter them soon. It will be cheaper than a vet. Being males they could have spraying problems if done too late and then whoever adopted them may not put up with it. So many cats are returned to shelters because of this. The rescues here start neutering at around 8 weeks.

:sad2: That is what I'm VERY concerned about, and one reason I won't bring them to a shelter. Most shelters around here won't adopt black cats out around Halloween and I don't want little Sage sitting in a cage for weeks. Whoever adopts them from me will be screened carefully.

Spraying is a concern of mine too, but unfortunately I can't get them neutered right now. I have not been able to find a clinic that will neuter then for less than $65 and $65 x 2 is just not something we can afford right now due to unexpected medical bills. We did not expect to have Max and Sage for longer than a few weeks while brother-in-law got a new apartment, but then he lost his job, started doing drugs again, started stealing from friends and family (including us) and will be going to rehab and jail.

That is why I am trying as hard as I can to find them a home ASAP.

Have you checked the low cost spay/neuter places? My daughter took in 4 kittens (2, then 1, then 1 more). We were very fortunate and found a place that was actually doing a 2 for 1 (normal price was $45 each).

Another option might be to talk to the people at the low cost place or an animal shelter. Just explain the circumstances, that you are basically fostering them and doing your best to find them a home and wondering if there is anyway they could help with the neutering. I know that some places do it on a sliding fee schedule. That might be something that could help you.

I went to bed thinking about these cats last night and praying for them. Thank goodness they have you, but I also realize that you're in a difficult situation too. They've had such a tumultuous life so far, and I kept thinking about how much they need each other (and the teddy bear).

I'll keep your family in my prayers. I hope that somebody can help you soon (since I'm in the deep south and have 4 dogs, 10 cats, 5 horses, and a squirrel, I'm not in a position to help either ;)).

Oh don't worry, I would have ponied up some money from SOMEWHERE and made sure they got fixed if they had been male and female! (We have had them since August) Luckily my two cats are also males, and fixed.

Wait, these guys aren't fixed yet? Start calling around to find somewhere that'll help you get that done. If they havent begun yet, they could start spraying. And once that starts, neutering can fail to stop it.

Then you WON'T be able to place them.
I think our vet insists males be done asap, by 6 mos old. If that is really impossible right now, and none of the low cost places can help you, let them know you need referrals to shelters then. The shelter will get it done. Seriously, they are already 7 months old. I'd hate for a lack of neuter to cost one of them the chance at a forever home!!

I know it wasn't anyone's intention but now I feel like crap because we can't afford to neuter them. We called around to every low-cost spay/neuter clinic we could find and no luck. Most insist on at least giving a rabies shot too which ups the cost to $100 in some places.

I almost had a home for them with what sounded like a wonderful family but it turns out the cat the have at home has FIV and I did not want to risk Max and Sage getting it.

Maybe I will have no choice but to put them in a shelter, even though that will break my heart.

Please don't be afraid to call the Milford Humane Society that I linked in my other post. They are not just a "shelter". They don't put down ANY animal and you have to go through quite a process to be able to adopt one of their cats - so there would be no worry about the black cat going out just because it's Halloween.

They have wonderful volunteers who really care about the animals (my neighbor and her dd are volunteers). The cats have big cages and they are let out quite often. All cats are named and their personalities are noted and the volunteers try hard to match up people with the right cats.

I hope that you can find a home for them soon!

Thank you very much. This will be the shelter we contact if we have to go that route.

Even though you do not want to place the cats with a rescue group contact the rescue groups to see if they will help you neuter them. They may have something to offer you to help you get them fixed. When we adopted our latest kitten she was telling us about a clinic in a neighboring county that does the neutering for only $25 at times and she gets as many of kittens together as she can for the money she has at the time and takes them in for this special. She does take kittens that are not already in her rescue group to do this. So maybe some of the groups in your area would do the same. It may be worth calling to see.

And it may be worth asking the clinics and vets in your area if they have a contact who will pay the bill for you. That is something we had to do one time when we found a kitten that had to be put to sleep. After we exhausted our funds on trying to get him/her well we didn't have anything else left for what needed to happen next. They had a contact who would pay for certain things at their office and that was one of them. But you have to keep on them asking if they have anything or know of anyone at all who can help. They won't tell you on their own. You almost have to beat it out of them.

Pets Alive is a great group in New York who may be able to do something to help you. Email them to see if they know of someone in your area who can help with the expenses. And ask them if they can help find someone who can take the kittens together. They want nothing but the BEST for their animals!

Again, you are doing something wonderful for these babies!!! You have an awesome heart!!!

Just a slight update on the boys...

I thought I had found a home for them and I was so happy. The woman and I spoke on the phone and I told her everything I could think of that she should know about them. She had apparently lost her two cats in her recent divorce and had been looking for just the right ones to adopt when she saw my post on Craigslist. She seemed like she really wanted them and we set up a meeting the next evening.

Two hours later I had an email with her backing out. She said she was just moving into her new home and wasn't unpacked yet and wasn't ready for them. She said if I still had them on the 27th she'd be glad to take them. I told her I thought she sounded great on the phone and I'd hold them for her. I asked if she could still come by to meet them and to give Max a chance to get used to her and have not heard back from her.

I'm extremely discouraged. We have to move in 4 months, but I know we will not be able to find an affordable apartment that will allow us to have 4 cats.

You never know OP, my DD21 lives in low income housing (her DBF found a good job but he's not full time yet so things are hard for them) and she's allowed her 3 cats, so you never know. Good luck! I hope things work out with the other lady and she does take them.
