Looking for a home for 2 wonderful cats..Update: The boys have a home!

How do your brother-in-law and his girlfriend feel about you giving away their cats? I would not wish to adopt a pet if it's ownership was in question.

Well, considering they're going to be in jail for a very, very long time, that isn't really an issue. The ownerships of the cats isn't in question - as of now, they belong to us. When we last spoke we did tell them we were looking for a new home for the cats. We now have restraining orders against them both though, so there won't be any further contact.

Two weeks ago we allowed them to stay in our home for a week. We cooked for them, took them out to dinner, bought them things, in general were very kind to them. They thanked us by stealing from us, including money and my house keys so they could come back and steal when we were not home. They found out we were going to file a police report and began making threats.

ETA: In addition to the charges we are filing, brother-in-law is looking at quite some time in jail for selling drugs in a school zone. Both are also already in trouble for larceny. Brother-in-law has also been on probation for domestic violence. Then there is driving with a suspended license, among many other things...

I loved the pictures, you can tell the cats all love each other! You are doing the right thing...thanks for not throwing them out on the street, like alot of people would do!! I hope you find a forever home for them soon.

It's very kind of you to offer! I would feel bad to let anyone else spend their hard-earned money on a responsibility I took on, though. When we took them in, it's true I had no idea I'd still have Max and Sage a week away from November. But I feel like since I did make that choice it's up to me.

I would also be willing to donate to a shelter that would neuter them. I have 4 cats and I love them like children. Let us know if we can help.

I think it's safe to say that the ownership of these cats is not of any importance to the BiL and his GF.

I still feel the same way too. I don't mind helping somebody who is in a bind. After getting married in June, my daughter, who is in grad school, and her husband adopted two dogs and 4 kittens that had been abandoned, and I paid to have all of them spayed/neutered. Normally, they take care of their own business, but I knew that coming up with that money would be very difficult for them, and the surgeries really needed to be done ASAP. While I know they appreciated it, my main purpose was to help the animals.

I know that the Angell place that a previous poster mentioned does a sliding scale fee (I googled them and called to ask). I also know that sometimes adoption places have adoption fees sponsored. I would think they might be willing to do the same in a case like this.

Brother in law and his girlfriend care far more about drugs than they do anything else, including their cats. They lost their apartment in June. They worked for all of 2 weeks since then before quitting because they found an easier way to get drug money - steal money and DVDs from family and friends to sell at used movie stores.

We have had these cats since August. They have come to visit them twice. Never have they offered to give us money for all the food and cat litter we have had to buy. They got the cats in May and never took them to a vet. So they have done NOTHING for these cats and as far as I am concerned, they abandoned them. I am their mama now.

They really won't be able to take them back. They are living in their car. Even if they manage to get out of going to jail, they are on drugs. They're not motivated to get and keep a job or an apartment. Chances are even if they did, they would once again get kicked out and the cats would be homeless - again. They need a home. Not this back-and-forth mess, going from home to home. As much as I want to, I can't give them a permanent home. So yes, when brother-in-law and GF were here, we told them we were going to have to find a home for Max and Sage. They agreed and understood.


Thank you to those who have offered to donate - it is too late to get them in for the Catmobile location near our home this coming Thursday, but we are going to call around tomorrow. Once I have a location and date pinned down I will let you all know.

I'm still telling everyone I know who lives up that way about the cats. As the others ave stated I'm also willing to give to a clinic too in order to help with the costs. We all understand how much it costs to feed the extra babies and how much litter costs. Again, it is wonderful what you are doing for them and how much love you are giving them!!!

Well, I really hate to do this but it looks as if Max and Sage are going to have to go to a shelter after all. There is a new tenant moving in this week in the apartment below us and he will not be very happy to hear our cats chasing each other through the apartment at 4 AM. Our two cats settle down at night but Max and Sage jump on them and then everyone starts running and playing. So, we really do need to do something now before he complains to the landlord just like the first tenant did.

Can you crate them at night? That's an option......altho my cats cry when I crate them so it might not be a solution for you.

Crating them wouldn't be an option...my apartment is so tiny that even if I put the crate in the next room the crying would keep us awake. Besides, I would feel awful that they did not have access to the litterbox and food/water all night.

Crating them wouldn't be an option...my apartment is so tiny that even if I put the crate in the next room the crying would keep us awake. Besides, I would feel awful that they did not have access to the litterbox and food/water all night.

How about if you shut them in the bathroom with their litter and food. Put a blaket down, so they won't make paw noises on the floor.
If you cratted them, you would need to have those items in the crate.

Have you gotten in touch with a local rescue group, to arrange a discount s/n? Some here have said they would be willing to send the s/n group some $$$ to help with the s/n.

We bought carpets, put blankets down on top of the carpets and even put down spare mattresses to muffle their sounds. Didn't help - you really can hear everything that goes on above you.

Now Elvis and Nemo settle down after their bedtime meal, but Max and Sage won't. We have tried everything. For the months of August and September it was a nightmare trying to keep them quiet. We sighed in relief when the tenant moved out in October and have had a month of not worrying about it. We have spent that whole month looking for a home for the boys.

I may have one lead - I will see what happens there. If not, I have found a shelter that they will go to on Saturday.

It sounds like you've done all you can do to keep them safe in your home. You've done more than most people would do!

Recovery time for the boy is 3 days, Recovery for a girl is 6. It's been several days since people have given you places to call and have offered to help with the expense..please call those places. If a shelter has no room for adult cats and they take them in, they are putting them down. Please start calling the rescue groups and plead your case. You may have to beg and cry, but surely, one of the rescue centers can help. Check your local rescue place in any Pet Smarts you have in your area. Call back the local no kill shelters. We have taken in 10 cats this week..and we take those the most desparate first. You may find room has opened.

If the cats would knock over items in the bathroom, take those items out and put play toys such as play mice that don't make noise. Put a towel across the bottom of the door, so the noise is muffled. You may lose a few nights sleep, but each day you call and call, may save their lives.

Put an ad in the paper..be sure you put they will have to go to the shelter. Keep trying Craig's list, but be sure you state that they will go to the shelter if no one takes them this weekend.

Is this a no kill shelter? If so, I would accept their offer while it's still on the table. Space changes daily.

I understand you're trying to be helpful, but getting them fixed is not going to be an option. None of the places I called had immediate appointment openings for neutering, and even if they did, we could not take them to be fixed this week. Friday would be the only day possible and we have to be in court that day (thanks to brother-in-law). Right now my focus HAS to be getting them out of my home.

The no-kill shelter I had my heart set on is full, so they can't go there. I'm still calling around. I will not put them in a shelter where they will be put to sleep, but I'm getting desperate. I've placed ads everywhere, I've asked everyone I know...I don't know what to do anymore.
