I was just wondering what the furthest anyone has driven to get to HHI. We live over 1300 miles away, and are considering driving on our next trip. Could we do this in two days (only adults, no kids with us)? Any tips if we do?

Thats the same time for me, but your further south! How can that be...unless your way up in them, there, mountin's!:goodvibes

I'm in Stephenson, VA at the very top of VA. So depending on where in MD you live you may be further south than me. BTW congrats on the 99 win today.

We have a 12 hr/800+ mi trip so we break the drive into two days. We are used to a seven and a half hr trip to our home in Maine, so DH pushes himself for another hour and a half to get to Florence, SC [exit 157]. We have dinner and a walk around the motel property before getting to bed early. We are up early the next day and drive a bit before stopping for breakfast and then finishing the trip to HHI. We generally have a 3 hr trip on day two and find that our room is ready upon our arrival at the resort. We make the drive part of our vacation and enjoy watching the scenery and checking to see what has changed along the way. We also have our favorite restaurants and found out how quickly we remember and are remembered by wait staff along the way, too.

Since HHI is a restful vacation for us, we are in no rush to get to the resort. We have plenty of time to get to Signe's for baked goods and to the grocery store for provisions.

I am so looking forward to the trip this Fall!

With stops we are about 12 hours away from HHI. Not a bad drive. Much easier than driving to WDW for us! We usually fly to WDW, but have driven it twice in a day and a half with kid!! The drive to HHI is much easier!!! :) With just adults I think the drive even if it is a day and a half would not be bad.

About 40 minutes for us. Does that count? :)

The nice thing about driving is that you can go places with out renting. Charleston, Savannah, even Jacksonville, or Myrtle Beach isn't that far away.

About 900 miles for us I think. Coming from CT. Not a bad drive -- it is about a 13 -14 hour drive -- we often go to my sister's in MD and leave the next morning super early and get down there in the late afternoon / early evening. Last year I did it as the sole driver (with DS 13 and DD 10). Husband and other DS 16 flew down a few days later because he unexpectedly qualified for a big swim meet. Wasn't bad -- glad I had great weather and no major traffic.

We regularly drive from CT to WDW and that is a 1300 mile trip. It is a 20 hour trip, door-to-door. We usually do it in one day, leaving at 2am and arriving around 10pm. The trip to HH is 15-16 hours and we always do that in one shot as well.

We drive from Boston all the time. Usually 14 hours or so. We drive to WDW all the time so this is a piece of cake. We usually stop one night as close to HHI as we can and get there in the am to take advantage of the resort(even if room is not available).

979 miles from Rochester NY.

1 driver, 2 days, 9 hours each day with stops.

We flew down the 2nd time ;)

We are just over 1000 miles and with stops, about 16 hours. We split it into 2 days: 12 the first day and 4 the next. That way we had most of the day at the beach on day 1.

We had 3 kids with us, 14, 12 and 3 1/2. Our friends drove along with their 2 DD's, ages 8 and 6 (days away from turning those ages).

Will be driving to Myrtle Beach for the 2nd time this summer---basically same distance.

Good luck!

we make the trip from Central PA but are lucky as my sister lives near Raleigh so we always stop on the way down and back for a visit!

We are about 1,200+ miles away, usually we do a week at Disney and drive over to HH for a week before heading back to WI. This year we are just going to HH, I'm planning on leaving WI around 2:00pm Sat. driving through the night, and with stops, hopefully be sunning myself at the HH beachhouse by noonish.
Now we are driving with three kids(10,8,6), so we'll stop for diner somewhere south of Chicago (maybe even a picnic kind of thing at a rest-stop), stop again between Indy and Louisville for ice cream, let the kids fall asleep, drive through the night, and we''ll be well south of Atlanta before they wake-up, we'll stop for breakfast somewhere, and like I said hopefully pulling into the resort by noon or so.:)

During Spring Break we drove from the Houston area. We left Easter Sunday around 1:00pm. Made a few stops and even a short detour to look at a couple of historic sites along the way. Stopped in Alabama for the night. Made it to Hilton Head around 5:00pm the next day. Hope this helps.

Update (I couldn't figure out how to update the title)!
Thanks for so many positive posts. I told DH this morning and that's what we're going to do next time. OK, I caught him at a weak moment-he just returned from 24 hours of flying and had jet lag. The real clincher, though, was when I reminded him that we'd have a whole trunk we could fill with Signe's pound cakes to bring home. That did it! Honestly, though, it really did help that others had done it and lived.

We drive every year, since it is cost prohibitivie for our family of 5 to fly there. We take two days... 12-14 hours the first 3-5 the second.

We are approx. 1200 miles from northern NH. We have tried different variations but found that leaving early around 4am on Saturday and driving a long day, spend the night where it works for us and then have a much shorter day on Sunday before check-in. It actually is a nice drive down because we avoid I-95. We are driving to WDW on 4/18 which I'm sure will feel much longer.

We drive from Boston area all the time to WDW and HHI. How do you AVOID I-95?!
