Yesterday we lost power here at home, so instead of just sitting here in the dark, we decided to kill some time by going to one of the local malls. While there I noticed that the trend for ladies is long hair. I don't know how many women (of all ages) I saw at the mall, but since it was pretty crowded, and we were there for almost 3 hours, I'm assuming it was close to a couple of thousand. I started counting how many women (again of all ages) had short hair (by that I mean hair that didn't go past their shoulders). I began counting about a half hour after we got there. Of the thousands of women I saw, I only counted 52 women who had short hair, and of those I would guess about 35 of them were over the age of 50. Only 52 out of a couple of thousand!

Personally I like this trend, because I've always preferred long hair on a woman rather than short hair (don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that short hair can't look nice, but I've always liked the long hair look better).

I was just wondering if this trend was the same in the states as it is here in Mexico City.

When I lived in KY - I felt it was pretty equal. I live in Colorado now and long hair is def. what women wear here (and the majority is pretty, thick long hair - not the stringy, thin type - not sure if it because of the low humidity so their hair always does/looks good or maybe the water difference or a combo :confused3. I know when I travel to different areas I can tell a huge diff. in my hair). I'm hoping the longer I'm here the maybe my hair will change & I can once have nice long hair (not the stringy type ;)).

I have long, thick hair cut into long layers. I have friends who tell me I have to cut it short because I'm pushing forty. NEVER! That's an old, antiquated rule that doesn't fit in with today's society. As long as your hair is well kept, wear it whatever length you'd like. :thumbsup2

I have super short hair and love it! I would NEVER go back to long. I don't ask anyones "permission" nor do I ask/care about "approval".......my hair is short for ME! If someone else does not like it......too bad!

I grew up on Long Island, NY - and long hair was pretty much everywhere. I've lived in KY, and as a PP said, I found it about equal - but I did notice many women with shoulder length hair.

Now I live in Massachusetts, and I notice the opposite - a lot of short hair. I still wear my hair long.

On the 30 and younger crowd here, long hair is the norm, once you have babies, your hair gets shorter and shorter :lmao:. I would say that in the 40 and over crowd, short hair is the norm (especially if you are talking shoulder length and shorter). I have short hair, I would love to have longer hair but my hair doesn't grow out well so I keep it short and have instructed my hair stylist to rap me over the head next time I talk about growing it out long. :lmao:

I have long hair for the first time since about 1982>.....
Never thought I looked particularly good in long hair and thought it was a PITA to take care of.
I love my hair longer :)

I am 46 and if I had long thick hair I wouldn't cut it, no way. But I don't it isn't real thin but it isn't thick either and it is very fine, with just enough curl to not look good. I am in Florida so you can guess what it does to my hair. I left yesterday am about 7:45 for a football game and by 8:0 it wasn't straight any more. lol

Anyway, my hair looks better short and my hubby likes it short so that is the way it will stay I guess.

I think it's about 50-50 around here. I wear my hair to my shoulders with layers as it's very fine and when it's really long it's stringy and when it's really short it's flat.
Most of my female friends' hair is at least "ponytail length." I haven't done much people watching lately. I'll have to pay more attention.

I will say that among my students (7th graders) hair is either chin length or long. Not much in between.

Around here long hair (the choppy long layers) went out of fashion in the fall. Now, the large majority have pretty short hair..above shoulder length.

You go girl...

Its a mix around here - all the teens have long straight hair - mosty straighten it. mom are a mix. You'll get a lot that'll grow it out some in the winter & then chop it off come summer - when its so hot. BUT then you've got a ton that love ponytails & won't ever cut it

My only rule for hair is that it has to go into a ponytail. I teach gymnastics and I can't have it in my face at work.

I think I have long hair, just because I can, and it looks good...I was always told by someone once you're 40, you'll have to have short hair, well, I'll be 44 in Feb 21 (while in Disney, yay!) and I have well past the shoulder long hair, love it, hubby loves it, and it looks great...So there, to the one that said I had to cut it, I don't!!

Again, it's a preference thing...I just personally find it much, much easier!!

I'm 51 and my hair is short but I'm growing it out-I think. It's grown about 3 inches and I'm kind of liking it this length.
After a certain age, some women shouldn't wear their hair too long because gravity is at work and long hair just pulls these ladies down more. It actually ages them rather than having any sort of youthful effect, especially if the area right under the chin is not tight.

I am 46 and have long hair and have no plans on cutting it short. Long hair to me is much much easier, if its raining and humid I just put it in a ponytail and I am good to go or if I don't feel like washing it that day ;). I think if you do have long hair it looks better if you have some style to it not just parted in the middle and hanging?

Well, I'm in my forty-teens ;) and, since my mom always force me to have short hair when I was young ("but you had the most beautiful curls!" :rolleyes1: ), I've had longish-to long hair my entire adult life. My slightly younger sister, with wavy hair, has had long hair her entire life.

We look good :teeth: Okay, fine, she does. I look old with long hair. Could be worse, though. I could stop coloring it and have long white hair...

I have always had long hair and have never considered cutting it. Most of the women I work with have short hair though. I think it's a personal decision and as long as it's a cute cut, hair can look good short or long.

It's hard to make a guess but I'd say it's about 80/20 here long/short. I personally love having long hair and I'd have a nervous breakdown if I had to cut my hair (think Cassandra ANTM cycle 5).
